    3G network:

Review: in 2010 the most comprehensive modernization and

expansion program yet for 3G was implemented.

    Implemented

    measures

    in 2010:

Largest modernization programfor UMTS/HSPA (3G network)Largest expansion program to increase

large-scale 3G coverageIncrease backbone speed (among others)

for all 3G base stationsContinued increase of transmission

speeds, introduction of HSPA+Introduction of 4G/LTE:

Successful spectrum auction and beginof rollout for 4G/LTE (800MHz)

    Led

    to sustainable

    improvements:

    Improving network services:

Increase in coverage ofpopulation with UMTS/HSPA bymore than 10% Significant increases in averagebandwidths

    New offerings:

Begin of LTE rollout (4G) Pilot phase for

Wireless all and Surf omfortas the first LTE-based product forgaps in network coverage

LTE is the network technology for future challenges.

    Higher

    the

    gigabit

    society:ven higher

speeds:Projected data growth in mobile networks (2) (Pbyte/year)

LTE makes higher capacity available and is animportant step toward the gigabit society: According to today's growth predictions, existing networks will reach their limitsor they will no longer be economical toupgrade and operate them.

800MHz: Ideal for supplying large areas 1.8/2.6GHz: Maximum speed and capacity

The digital dividends spectrum (800MHz) is bestsuited for efficient coverage of more rural regions. Setting up a network is subject to specifications madeby BNetzA, which stipulates they are first set up in ruralregions and the aforementioned White Spots.

GHz spectrum means maximum transmission speedand capacity. Accordingly, these networks will be first set up inmetropolitan areas and regions with extremely highdata usage.

Telekom is implementing LTE as the technology for both spectrums

    The plan for 2011:

LTE deployment to close gaps in network coverage

First expansion phase is initially intended tocover regions still without broadbandaccess. In 2010, LTE technology was deployed in500 communities. 3G or DSL rollout will

    take place in another500 communities.

    The plan for 2011:

Introduction of LTE for mobile broadband use

    55Introduction of LTE for mobile

    broadband use

LTE will be fully functional dueto 1.8 / 2.6GHz spectrum:

Supporting mobility and the interplay ofnetworks (2G 3G 4G) are particularchallenges for the network and terminal.

0X.06. Start of Friendly User Trial

Introduction of the first products formobile broadband based on LTEtechnology is planned for the second halfof the year.

Terminals used for this are USB datasticks that are supported by all networks(2G, 3G, 4G).
