Flying machines

The idea of a personal flying machines caught the imagination of many over time. And the ability to avoid congestion on the road is now a step closer to reality because a company says it has managed to devise a concept to launch in mass production.

The company Terrafugia says it has managed to overcome technological barriers and develop a prototype flying car good enough, that it be brought into mass production.

The construction technique was borrowed from hybrid cars, which run on both electricity, and gasoline, and piloting will be done automatically, as in airplanes.

Initially, the project was called Terrafugia Transition and represents an aircraft that could be driven on the road.

The problem was that it had to take off and land at an airport.

Then Terrafugia TF-X appeared, a hybrid electric car that can fly within a radius of 800 kilometers. TF-X can carry four people and fit in a normal garage.

On the road it uses electricity to move, but in the air it will be driven with a gasoline engine.

Landing is via autopilot, which will look for a suitable place, when the fuel is running out. The human factor is the one who decides ultimately if the maneuver is a safe one or not.
