Are you ready for a challenge and an opportunity? As conference Vice-President, my team and I would like to offer both. We have prepared one of the most unique combinations of sessions and workshops available to you across North America.

As Project Managers and/or Business Analysis Professionals, you are often tasked with managing teams, predicting shifting scenarios and ensuring careful direction, all while understanding the importance of the bottom line. Our conference, ProjectWorld*BusinessAnalystWorld is designed to create scenarios that deliver these skill-set enhancing situations.

Whether it’s through classroom-style sessions by recognized experts and innovators or peer-to-peer casual conversations, the learning process will be natural and above all, fun!

Along with gaining knowledge and making new acquaintances, it’s important to remind you that we are a PMI® and IIBA Registered Education Provider. Attendees can claim one credit for every hour of education, up to 26 in total over 4 days, which goes a long way to renewing your certification.

I encourage you to take advantage of all the learning and networking opportunities this event provides. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you have any questions!

LIVIN’ LIFE LARGE - THE COFFEE TALK EXPERIENCE

SET YOUR GPS FOR SUCCESS

Get ready to get outa-the-box and try something a bit different. Coffee Talk is not your typical “stand and deliver” Keynote session. It is fun, interactive and requires everyone in the audience to connect with one another in an active and fun way. Coffee Talk integrates Tyler’s over two decades as a master experiential team designer and facilitator into a super engaging event that will not soon be forgotten. For example, you will learn together how to connect and cultivate your online project team, explore the depth of the PM and BA network in the room, learn new tools for building your team with intelligence, and practice getting to know someone a bit better. Plus, PMs and BAs will receive a host of road ready and tested team tools that they can use immediately with their teams. This session comes complete with engaging activities, academic content, hilarious stories, and one-of-a-kind experiences for all in attendance. Join the new revolution of meetings and nix the stand and deliver as we inject gamification and team tools to orient Project Managers and Business Analysts towards building better project teams.

These days, if you want to get someplace fast, with no wrong turns, you just program your car’s GPS and follow the commands. You choose a destination, then your GPS calculates the route from where you are to where you want to go and then it guides you to get there. Your brain works the exact same way: Choose where you want to go, and your subconscious takes over from there. Trouble is, your subconscious is also a storage area for habits and beliefs that either keep you on track or throw you off course. If you don’t program it for success, you’ll never reach your destination. Wayne Lee helps you access and harness the power of your GPS for optimal performance at work and at home. This presentation opens your mind to melt away stress and negative interference. This presentation helps reveal what’s possible when you program your GPS for success.

GETTING TO SUCCESS: EMBRACING CHANGE, ENCOURAGING DISRUPTION, AND INCENTIVIZING INNOVATION

THE IMPORTANCE OF TEAMWORK

In this insightful and useful talk, Michele recounts her journey from a Queen’s University undergrad to becoming ranked in WXN’s “100 Most Powerful in Canada” and listed as a Forbes’ “Millennial on a Mission”, sharing along the way the lessons she’s learned as one of Canada’s most successful entrepreneurs, including the necessity of embracing change, encouraging disruption, and incentivizing innovation at every stage of the game.

Toronto Argonauts former coach and player Michael “Pinball” Clemons is a man of unquestionable character and spirit. His football career was characterized by incredible perseverence and great skill. At only 5’6” and 170 pounds, he won against all odds. He succeeded while others predicted failure, gave more when less would have been satisfactory. He exemplifies the capabilities of teamwork and leadership while demonstrating what it means to beat the odds. “Pinball” will share his past experiences to illustrate how people can overcome obstacles and achieve success. In his deeply moving and inspirational talk, he will speak about personal perseverance and the importance of teamwork, which is relevant to any industry.

JOURNEY OF DEVOPS: IT IS MORE ABOUT CULTURE

Saby Waraich, PMP, CSM, Sr. Technology Manager, City of Portland

DevOps best practices are evolving rapidly, allowing organizations to build, test and deploy applications at a faster pace, and higher quality, than ever before. In this presentation, the attendees will learn: what and Why of DevOps, issues around organizational separation of IT development and IT operations, and how these can have a negative impact on both IT and the business, the benefits of a DevOps approach to both IT and the business, how DevOps builds on existing concepts and approaches such as ITIL, Agile, and Kanban, the role of continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment in DevOps, organizational issues relating to DevOps and understanding of options for DevOps organizational design, possible approaches to get started on a DevOps journey.LEARNING OBJECTIVES• The benefits of a DevOps approach to both IT and the

POWER OF INTEGRATING PROJECT, PROCESS AND CHANGE MANAGEMENT TO MAXIMIZE BUSINESS VALUE

Farzad Khan, MBA, P.Eng., PMP, Management Consultant, StrategicFront

Ever wondered why projects have a high failure rate, despite doing all you can to get it over the finish line? The answer may be a lack of focus in the way Project, Process and Change Management fold in together to maximize the value to a business. The combination of Project, Process and Change Management truly maximizes the value that each one can produce independently. It is almost like cooking that perfect dish with 3 separate ingredients, that would otherwise not make a great meal by itself. This session will address the following: PROJECT: Executing complex Programs and Projects delivered in an agile way; PROCESS: Improving business operations with a strong foundation in process design; CHANGE: Realizing the true ROI of change for major transformation initiatives. It will also demonstrate a case study on how StrategicFront, a firm that specializes in Project, Process and Change Management is able to deliver successful client projects consistently using this methodology.LEARNING OBJECTIVES• Integrate Project, Process and Change Management to

ENABLING BUSINESS AGILITY

Roger Burlton, P. Eng. , CMC, President, Process Renewal Group

FUTURE OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Mashhood Ahmed, Project Manager, Sidra Medicine

In the last couple of years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) moved from academic topic into reality. Most recently we have seen Google Assistant demo where a bot makes a phone call, speaks with real person on other side, and makes a reservation based on criteria provided by the call originator. This is a game changer especially in the field of Project Management. The presenter will start with basics of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning then delve into areas of Project Management where we will witness implementation of AI tools in near future. AI will have major impact on team performance and project outcomes. PM’s who are early adaptors of AI tools will definitely be ahead of curve. Based on survey conducted by Harvard Business Review 54% of PM’s time is taken up by administrative tasks. Most of these rudimentary tasks that all Project Managers hate can be optimized using Artificial Intelligence. This will allow Project Managers to focus more on delivering value and providing incomparable solution. These rudimentary tasks are from all project management knowledge areas - some examples are, follow ups tasks, taking meeting minutes, risk and issue analysis, budgeting, schedule management andresource assignment. The presenter will discuss these in much more details on how AI will impact each of the project management knowledge areas and highlight AI use cases for Project Manager practitioners, some of these tools are available to us while others are far in future. Further, the presenter will highlight areas of project management where Project Managers must focus to bring value. Soft skill is one the key area where Human Project Manager will be successful and will be able to leverage AI tools for rudimentary tasks. This will include our ability to motivate team member, building trusting relationship, negotiating relationship, ideations, empathy and intuition. This will inevitably change the way we do project management practice today. Are you ready for the future?LEARNING OBJECTIVES• Basic understanding of Artificial intelligence and

SET YOUR GPS FOR SUCCESS

Wayne Lee, Peak Performance Expert

These days, if you want to get someplace fast, with no wrong turns, you just program your car’s GPS and follow the commands. You choose a destination, then your GPS calculates the route from where you are to where you want to go and then it guides you to get there. Your brain works the exact same way: Choose

where you want to go, and your subconscious takes over from there.

The PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition and Agile Practice Guide were created to complement each other and address tailoring and Agile. The PMBOK focused on “predictive” practices while the Agile Practice guide on Agile practices, there was a common denominator! The PMBOK guide discussed tailoring your project to accommodate Agile Principles and the Agile Practice included a correlation between Agile and the PMI Knowledge Areas, an obvious acknowledgement that the two work together. This presentation will explore what tailoring means and how do to “tailor” a project to accommodate Agile and Predictive methodologies? This session will look at tailoring agile within existing predictive methodologies and present case studies of real world tailoring in multiple industries including HealthCare, Manufacturing, and Financial services. These case studies will explore the technical shift in tailoring agile and the methodology/culture shift across the organizations. You will see an example of the business not being prepared for a full time member of an agile team, a stakeholder adopting the concept of stories to communicating success, and the preconceived notions of Agile in practice. (PS – Agile doesn’t mean no documentation.)LEARNING OBJECTIVES• Understand the concept of tailoring Agile and

Predictive methodologies and explore where the PMBOK Guide addresses Agile components of the ten knowledge areas.

• Understand attainable early wins for tailoring Agile including the organization change aspects of making it happen. You will also understand the preconceived notions people may have of Agile and dispute the myths and capitalize on the commonality.

• A look at tailoring agile within existing predictive methodologies and present case studies of real world tailoring in multiple industries including HealthCare, Manufacturing, and Financial services.

We sometimes need a break from the actual project work to crawl into various options and re-assess project progress. But, have you ever made the connection between project management and bartending? The world of Project Management is not unlike the resources and constraints model your bartender faces at your favorite local tavern. BUSINESSANALYSIS SHARED AGILE

The external business environment is moving fast, and the ability to create organisations that can adapt and learn is crucial. Yet, so often our stakeholders are blind-sided by sickly-sweet silver-bullet solutions that assume a neat linear relationship between cause and effect. Yet rarely are things so simple, and increasingly we need to think systemically. In this practical and hands-on session, you will hear about the importance of systems thinking in a business analysis context.

Learning Objectives• Understand the relevance of systems

thinking in business analysis• Apply a range of systems thinking techniques• Understand the situations where systems thinking

techniques are most appropriate

Learn business analysis techniques that drive project focus onto your end customers. It is too easy for projects to lose this focus, and instead solve only the sponsor’s issues, making the end customer an afterthought. This workshop will change your perspective and ensure your future engagements are organized for customer success. Come learn a new slant on the saying, ‘the customer [focus] is always right.’

Learning Objectives• Learn how to identify the right problems so that cus-

tomer needs are met• Learn how to ensure the project is solving the right

customer problems• Learn how to prioritize project objectives to ensure

customer success

More and more, roles in organizations demand more technical savvy. Everyone is talking about digital trans-formation. Technology is rapidly changing to meet those needs and in turn, is changing how we need to approach our roles and the requirements that drive product changes. The term “Technical Requirements” is not an industry standard yet they seem to be cropping up more and more. What is the best way to handle these Technical Requirements? Who should own them? How can we analyze them? Are you ready for your technical future? Come join us for a fun-filled day to learn about Technical Requirements, discover what they really are, are not, and how to document them.

Learning Objectives• Define what Technical Requirements are• Define what digital transformation is• Break down the myths behind Technical

Requirements• Understand the need to become more

technical in your role• Learn how to document Technical

Requirements• Understand how to approach analysis of more techni-

BADASS BUSINESS ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES!Hans Eckman, Info-Tech Research GroupLeslie Hughes, Punch Media

Bob Prentiss Bob the BA/The Uncommon League

Jennifer Battan, Out of the Box BA/The Uncommon League

Sounds like the start of a good story. The most common problem facing Agile practitioner isn’t the basics – it’s how it all fits together on a typical project. How does an Agile project get started? Once it gets started, how do you plan it in sprint zero? How do you pull an Agile sprint back from the brink of failure? What’s the best way to show status on a sprint? In this workshop we take you on a ride through a typical Agile project with all the turns and twists along the way from planning, epics, theme, user stories, backlogs, spikes, status and risk. Resource Management issues? We got that covered too. Understand how the pieces of Agile fit together into a process and how to use it effectively. Learn how a Business Analyst and Project Manager can fit into Agile. Bring your toughest situations. Let’s roll up our sleeves and work through them in this interactive journey

through an Agile project. This workshop is designed for intermediate to advanced Agile practitioners.Learning Objectives• Walk through an Agile project from

beginning to the end in this interactive fast paced workshop that will bring deeper under-standing to how the Agile fundamentals fit together into an efficient process

• Learn how to pull sprint back from the brink of failure and manage risk in an Agile environment

• Discover new approaches to techniques to manage communication, expectations setting, status reporting, resource management, and much more

Stop missing out on opportunities to work on better projects or teams, get promoted, or spend more time doing what you love. In this session, we’ll help you stand out in a crowd and exploit your uniqueness to improve your opportunities and quality of life at work. We will examine seven patterns and approaches to transform you from a solid task contributor to a recognized solution leader.

Learning Objectives• Expand your toolbox to deliver new value to your

teams• Model desired behaviours and techniques in your tar-

get position• Build your professional brand through social platforms

and proactive networking

Going digital does not mean that sound analysis and design of the end to end experience has passed. Connecting all the actions required, means more dots to connect between customers and ourselves. This relies upon professional practices of integrated design. Business Architects and Business Analysts must follow sound yet modern professional practices of process analysis and design tuned for a digital world. This

seminar will help you optimize the customer’s process journey in a digital world.Learning Objectives• Learn how process design is different for digitalization• Learn how to connect all the dots: Process and data• Practice using a case study throughout

the class

Badass Business Analysis techniques? You might be thinking “Cool! What are those?” or “I know lots of techniques already so this session probably is not going to be of any help”. Before you make any decisions, let me ask you the following question: Do any of the statements below ring true regarding a meeting you either recently attended or facilitated?• The attendees during the brainstorming session were

all zombified by the approach and the results.• The icebreaker was frozen solid and “Let It Go” was

all anyone could say. • The decision maker failed to make a decision and

everyone muttered “thanks for wasting my time” as they left the room.

• The process modeling session took so long someone literally fell asleep at the table.

If you have seen or experienced any of those scenarios, you might want to rethink the techniques you are using. Businesses today are changing rapidly. The same old techniques that you have been using may not be living up to the agility and speed required to

succeed in this new dynamic marketplace of change. Are you ready to learn and practice some new and very helpful techniques you have never heard of before? Are you ready to expand your frame of reference and re-look at how you facilitate? It does not take a Badass Business Analyst to learn these new techniques, but if you are willing, you are well on your way to becoming a Badass Business Analyst! Gone are the days when negotiations involved plaid suits, cigars, flashy ties and the manipulative “negotiation” tactics used in that era. In a global marketplace where clients have unlimited access to information and choices, professionals focus on building partnerships and long-term relationships with their clients, suppliers, business partners and colleagues.Learning Objectives• New techniques that most Business Analysts have

not heard of• Why some tried and true techniques still fail• An in-depth look at a few techniques that are tried

out in the session
