Christmas can be a difficult time of the year. Everywhere we're surrounded by everyone and everything telling us this is a time of joy and happiness. However I know of several people who have lost

close relatives this year. It is very difficult, if not impossible, to simply put that grief aside. If someone you love passed away in 2013, this Christmas I wish you happy memories and a peaceful holiday time.

More than at any other time of the year Christmas is a time for forgiveness, for moving on from rifts, for offering the olive branch. We are all guilty of making mistakes, of jumping to incorrect conclusions and judgments. If you have been hurt by a damaged relationship this year, this Christmas I wish you healing thoughts, and the happiness reconciliation can bring.

This last month has been another of change for Fusion. We said goodbye to one of our founding publishers, Brayden Thirdborn. Brayden's contribution to Fusion's success thus far is immeasurable and I want to extend a personal thank you to him for his support, both past and present.

On a lighter note, this issue marks the beginning of our bi-monthly picture contest, there's tons of Linden prizes up for grabs and the winning picture will be featured in the magazine itself. Keep an eye out for all the information in the following pages.

Have a very merry Christmas and happy holidays, I wish you all as much of a stress free and enjoyable time as possible!N

SEASONspirit

THE

OFA Christmas around the world is

not what it once was. It used to be enough to garner a cease fire

between warring armies. It used to be

a time when the world stopped what it

was doing and took one night to focus on

family, on love, on compassion, on peace.

Our world is no longer like that.

Second Life, on the other hand, is a very unique opportunity to create a world that is different than the one we live in. We are in charge of what we create and we have no mistakes of the past to heap on our heads. It is easy to point out all the things that are wrong with Second Life, and we do have some issues to sort out but, for one day, for Christmas, I would like you to consider this.

Second Life takes down all the barriers of nations, ethnicities, religions, political beliefs, and appearance. It creates a level playing field where we are all free to do as much as we want to do, or as little as we want. We can have a great deal, we can work, and we can own land. It is a possibility offered across the board for anyone who comes here. On our land we are free to do whatever we want that honours our traditions, our families, our love interests, our creativity.

In addition, Second Life, the community, has come together to honour those who

achieve, to mourn those who pass, to reach out to those who are hurting. People

from all over the world have reached out to one another to collaborate, to comfort,

and to celebrate. We have done some pretty amazing things.

Christmas is about the spirit it imbues. May this Christmas season fill your hearts

with love and compassion for one another. May we make the most of this time and

recognize that our connections with one another are the most important parts of

life.

PROFILEFUSION

BY BLISS WINDLOW

S E Q U O I AN I G H T F I R E

Second Life has developed its own traditions for the holiday season, along with the many beautifully decorated sims and the lavish gowns for all those important parties comes a hunt that embodies the magic, the beauty and the spirit of

Christmas.

It is the Peace on Earth Hunt.

Sequoia Nightfire is not just the founder of the hunt she is the heart and creative drive behind it. It is her sweat and tears that are poured into the success of the event as she handles or oversees every little detail. She is awe inspiring, although she would be the first to defer to the efforts of everyone who lends a hand. Sequoia values people, and it shows. She takes time to get to know, to cultivate both her

designers and her bloggers. She makes time to let them know their efforts are appreciated. THAT spirit is what carries through the entire event.

This year is the 6th year for Peace On Earth’s Gridwide Hunt with 200 varied designers participating, each working hard to produce something worthy of the season and the tradtion.

Sequoia is one of the true role models of Second Life, well recognized and accomplished in the Fashion Industry throught Colours of Couture, Solo Evan Model Agency, Mimi Boa Modeling Academy and modeling herself to acting and building and blogging. She is respected and loved and nothing she does shows more of her love for all that embodies Second Life than this most anticipated Second Life christmas tradition.

This year's hunt runs December 1st - January 6th.

Derailed is located on the Crash Boat Sim and is owned by Denise Rowlands. A rural town and farm land centered around a replica of the Contention, AZ train station, Derailed has three secluded beaches, a lighthouse, a

mountain top storm shelter and more. This is a photographer’s dream sim. It is a constant work in progress as Deni keeps adding more and more to it and just when she thinks it’s done, the season changes and she starts again! Visitors need to make sure they take the time to check out every single corner of this place!

It All Starts With A Smile is located on the Onyx Isle sim and is owned by Kaelyn Alecto. The description

of the sim as 'a nice hangout with beautiful picture perfect scenes' is the understatement of the year! Kaelyn works diligently to keep her the land updated and picture ready. One of the best sites of the sim is the little town you can walk through, but it hardly overshadows the breathtaking scenery surrounding it. It All Starts With A Smile is an inviting sim for exploration, spending time with friends, and taking lots of pictures!

Izzie’s Mainstore is owned by Izzie Button and located on Izzies sim. It’s the easiest thing to remember, just go to IZZIES! This sim is so much more than just a location for her store and it’s always a pleasure to see what the next season will bring. For example, in the summer time, the sim was transformed into an African

safari. What did winter bring? A snowy parking lot, with cars covered in the white powder!! The beauty of Izzie’s is that it doesn’t just stop at the parking lot, there are cute spots beyond it. If you walk further down, the sidewalk will take you to a frozen pond, just right for ice skating! Cottages are strewn about and it is a magnificent place, not only for pictures, but definitely for a first date!

Neva Crystal is the owner of Neva Sky Villi. Every time Neva posts a picture of her home on Flickr, the masses oooooooo

and aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh. It’s no secret her photography is a stunning work of art. So, when she opened up her sim to the public, would there be a question that the sim would be any less of a work of art? Of course not. Neva has kindly reopened the sim for the winter and it’s breathtaking.

Kehl Razor came to SL back in October of 2007 with a purpose. He wanted to make things, because as a gamer, he was getting to the age when it was either swim or get out of the water. So he dove in and looked around for some

way to make a living playing video games. An article in Wired magazine pointed him to Second Life. He joined, and then quit after the first few weeks but then he decided to swim, doing a variety of things. He had a little experience working with photoshop, so he put it to use. He then ran though the gambit, owning clubs, malls, Dj'd and basically got to know SL and how it worked.

He and Heather met in late 2009, while working in a club together. He as a DJ and she as a Manager. She started SL in March 2009 with a long time friend, looking for parties and good times and got a kick from stripping. Stepping up to club manager, she ran things there for about a year. She's naturally organized, disciplined and able to get things done efficiently so it was natural to help Kehl with his goals.

His biggest being more original mesh for 2014 and a new store to display it in, and have the sourced items he has made in a Razor Outlet. Heather would love to start creating original content, but with her super busy schedule in real life and Second Life, she hasn't been able to, but in 2014 would love to be able to find the time.

Heather demurred at naming her favorite designer, she doesn't want anyone in her events to think she would play favorites – but admitted to Kehl being one of her favorites. Kehl, however, brought out his list of the designers who've influenced

er

him the most. Stores like Block 13, Abyss, Blitzed, Aitui, Belleza and a huge one being Tonktastic. He managed to bump into the owner of Tonktastic when Heather was able to convince him to rent on their SIM. Kehl could hardly type and to this day is chagrined at his fanboying over one of his biggest influences.

As for bloggers, they have strict rules. They don't allow the bloggers in their event blogging group to message the designers asking for things. It has served them well, as they consider their bloggers some of the best out there. People like Hikaru Enimo, AliceInChains, Bubsy, Vix, Jack3on and Jules Solano. They both agree that they could go on and on, but the list would be way to long to print.

As for what they're looking for in the future from SL, Kehl is looking forward to the fitted mesh that's in beta testing right now, and would love to see a way to log in from a web browser. Otherwise he would like what other people are looking for, faster servers and continuing updating the game system overall. Heather wants skin appliers for man parts so the “orange weiners” will go away. But on a serious note, she would like LL to fix the process for cashing out to make it easier and faster. She too would like to see the new mesh to work out, so mesh skirts and dresses will flatter her figure better.

KEEP YOURLINDENSSAFE THISHOLIDAY

Greetings everybody! Christmas is upon us, and with such a big celebration come many purchases.

Sadly, this also means that there will be people

in the shadows trying to take our money without

ourconsent. Any of us may be affected by this,

so my goal for this issue is to provide some

basic guidelines to help you protect yourself

from the many thieves that exist online, and

particularly, in the world of Second Life®.

These guidelines are based on two that our mothers always told us:

– If something looks too good to be true, then it probably is

– Do not accept candy from strangers

The last guideline translates this way to SL: If a stranger sends an object to you,

delete it immediately. Do not rez it. Do not wear/add (attach) it. Simply, delete it.

Don't worry about just receiving it: that alone will not hurt you nor will it compromise

your account. Just delete it, and you will be safe. We'll expand this information in

another issue.

What about 'If something looks too good to be true...'?

by Auryn Beorn

Page 71: Fusion Magazine - December 2013

er

This is how, sadly, many accounts have been stolen from their users: they offered a

link that reads somehow similar to a SL Marketplace link. After logging in with our

password, the thieves have our login information. They use this to log into the SL

website, change our password, take all of our money, and use the stolen account

to continue spreading the links in the groups the victim was a member of.

A sure way to know that we are going to a legitimate SL web page is to type the

address ourselves in the browser address bar.

http://www.secondlife.com/

This will never fail us. We'll talk in the future about how we can know that an address

is safe.

I don't want to close this issue without mentioning a recent scam. If you're receiving

'Buy Cheapest Linden Dollars' offers, report the avatar immediately. “If something

looks too good to be true...” plus, LL changed the Terms of Service (TOS) this year

in this respect: only third parties explicitly listed by LL in the official wiki page, are

allowed to sell L$ to you. Anybody else that is not listed in that page, is someone

you should not trust.

With all this information, I hope your purchases will be safe. Have fun, and enjoy

your SL.

Gift GuideFUSION'S 2013 HOLIDAY

The question that boggles most during the holiday season is: what do you get that someone who seemingly has everything? Chances are they don’t have EVERYTHING. Whether you’re looking for a practical gift, or something

more romantic, gift giving is never as easy as it should be. I’m here to, hopefully, simplify it for you!

by Rylan Carling

Page 73: Fusion Magazine - December 2013

er

Let’s start with that guy in your life. Whether he is a significant other, a brother, a father, etc., he’s a guy. One sure fact about men is that they love their toys and, a car or motorcycle is exactly that, the perfect toy! HaruMotors sells some of the highest quality cars out on the grid and for motorcycles, be sure to also check out Prefabrica. This is so easy; it’s almost a no brainer!

If you want to be more practical for the man, then let’s look at body parts. Slink has a full line of both men’s feet and hands. Make sure you get the fat pack of hands, it’s worth it.

Page 74: Fusion Magazine - December 2013

74

Obviously men want what they want, but what do they most need? Clothes, and not just any type of clothing, mesh clothing. A little updating never hurt anyone and now is the perfect time to throw some good looking clothes his way. A man in a suit never looks bad. You can also look at hair, eyes, but let’s not make him feel as if he still looks like a total noob. Don’t overwhelm him; remember this is a gift for him!

Now, let’s get to the ladies. The easiest gift out there for women is probably the good ‘ole gift card, which is wonderful and is truly appreciated.

However, if you want to show a bit more effort here are some suggestions for you when it comes to that special woman in your life. I’m going to piggyback on the car thing here for a second because, believe it or not, girls like toys too! Who doesn’t want a cute coupe to drive around in? Now, get her a private sim to go speed racing at, and you’ll have a stalker for life!

Page 76: Fusion Magazine - December 2013

76

Body parts work for girls here too, but, as always, it’s a bit more complicated when it comes to women. Again, if you’re going for hands, make sure you buy her the fat pack; this is not a time to be stingy!

To make it a bit more special and meaningful, bling it up a bit. By bling, I don’t mean that annoying flashy sparkle! Buy some nice hand jewelry, a ring works perfectly here!

Slink has a perfect line of hands and feet for women. In regards to the feet, you have three different options to buy. She most likely has the older ones, somehow find out what she still doesn’t have and get them!! Trust me, you will be loved.

Page 77: Fusion Magazine - December 2013

77

F U

S I O

Nde

cemb

er

If she has all the body parts she needs, then shoes are always a great option, especially those that fit the Slink feet. I have never met a girl who doesn’t love her shoes. Can I stress again how a fat pack is a necessity? Girls love options!

Lastly, jewelry, you can never go wrong with it. To make it all a tad more special, go out and buy a gift giving pose, present her with a wrapped box. Remember, it’s all in the details and she will remember ALL of the details.

Page 78: Fusion Magazine - December 2013

78

Children can be the most fun to buy for because everything out there is so darn cute! Since I looked at cars for both men and women, I found this adorable cardboard airplane kids wear around them and pretend to be flying! But, you also have options out there like scooters, toy cars, tricycles, and so on.

To be cute, you have to have cute accessories. Hats, headbands, glasses, are all great examples of those little extras that add to being adorable. And what’s the perfect stocking stuffer? Well that’s easy, SUGAR! Rock candy, lollipops, ice cream treats and so forth. The best kinds are those that they can either wear or hold in their hands to show off.

Page 79: Fusion Magazine - December 2013

79

S I O

Nde

cemb

er

Lastly, no child can do without some sort of cuddly plushy! Whether they cling to it, wear it on their heads, or put it in their rooms, children need to have at least one favorite soft toy. HullaBaloo is the sim to go to if you need a starting point in all things kids related!

Probably one of the best gifts is a voucher for a profile picture or a picture in general. This can be for one person, a couple, a whole family portrait, and one of the finest photographers in SL sells gift cards for this exact purpose. The gift of Strawberry Singh is a definite treat!

Wishing you all a very happy holidays and hoping you get all you wish for this Christmas and new year!

Winter, a season with snow, gifts, holidays, it's no surprise it's my favorite one! Winter in SL is equally awesome with new events, releases and gifts popping up left and right. My favorite aspect of SL winter though is all these awesome 'winterized' sims. My latest find is 'Yuki no Yume', a sim based on Japanese winter images and I chose it for this month's pictures. You should definitely visit it, I'm sure you 'll like it as much I did.
