Suggested aims for the economic analyses

• Develop a common conceptual framework for social and economic analyses in the HELCOM region. – Provide a platform for exchange of experiences on economic and

social analyses

– Support a harmonized reporting in relation to the MSFD, focusing on the initial assessments under MSFD Article 8, but also setting the stage for the next Programmes of measures (POMs) under MSFD Article 13.

• Potentially apply the framework with respect to selected themes, as linked with the assessment of state and pressures

• Apply DPSIR framework

– Drivers/ economic activities

– Pressure assessment (HOLAS II)

– Status assessment (HOLAS II)

Hybrid conceptual model

• Marine Water Accounting + Ecosystem services + DPSIR = HOLAS II ESA

• The proposed workshop will develop a hydbridmodel so that MS can apply the same concept butadapt the MSFD Initial assessment economicanalyses according to their data and other resources

• HOLAS II ESA reports (at minimum) this common conceptual model?

Marine Ecosystem services: MarEcos

• A proposed concept for marine ecosystem services assessments

• How can MSFD descriptors and indicators for environmental status assessment be linked with selected ecosystem services

• Which valuation study results can be used for practical ecosystem services assessments,

• Knowledge gaps related to the valuation of ecosystem services

• Case study filling some of these gaps by demonstrating how recreation (a cultural ecosystem service) can be valued.
