THANK YOU FOR REQUESTING THIS FUNDRAISING PACK. I’M DELIGHTED THAT YOU’VE CHOSEN TO RAISE VITAL FUNDS FOR STONEWALL.

Lesbian, gay, bi and trans people face persecution every day. Last year, more than 75,000 young people were bullied for being LGBT. Every year, more than 100 hate crimes are committed against LGBT people, with many also going unreported. Being gay is illegal in 75 countries around the world, and is punishable by death in ten. Our work will continue until everyone, everywhere is free to be themselves and is accepted without exception.

Whether you’re running a marathon or jumping out of a plane, holding a bake sale or throwing a black tie dinner, this pack is full of ideas to help you along the way. By fundraising for Stonewall YOU will be helping us to change hearts and minds so that people are free to be themselves without fear of discrimination.

We have come a long way together, but we know there is still so much left to do.

Thank you for your support.

Ruth Hunt Chief Executive

“WHEN I FIRST GOT INVOLVED WITH STONEWALL I WAS HOMELESS, LONELY AND HAD RECENTLY FAILED AN ATTEMPT AT SUICIDE. BEING HONEST ABOUT MY SEXUALITY HAD BACKFIRED AND I HAD LOST MY HOME, MY FAMILY AND EVERYTHING I OWNED. I HAD NOTHING… STONEWALL SHOWED ME THERE WAS A FUTURE, THAT THERE WAS HOPE FOR PEOPLE LIKE ME.”

WHAT YOUR MONEY CAN DO£5 Allows us to send our guidance for tackling hate crime to a local police force.

£25 Can send five language resource packs to teachers, improving the school experience for

thousands of pupils who experience homophobia, biphobia or transphobia.

£50 Allows us to help 15 people through our free Information Service.

£500 Helps us train frontline NHS staff to better meet the needs of lesbian, gay, bi and trans

patients, improving services for the community.

£1,500 Can bring international activists to the UK to learn from expert advisors at Stonewall,

and take valuable skills and resources back to the LGBT community in their own country.

JAK’S STORY

MATT - LONDON MARATHON 2015 RAISED £2,600“A lot of people cry at the end of the marathon, and I can honestly say only a small part of that will account for the relief and self-achievement of completing such a mammoth physical undertaking… the rest will be because you know you’re helping to change minds and lives of people who were otherwise ignorant to what LGBT people have fought for in order to achieve equality. Then they will know that Stonewall is a lifesaving charity.”

SHALINA AND JO JUMP FOR EQUALITY - #SKYDIVE25 PARTICIPANTS RAISED £425 EACH“We believe everyone should support LGBT equality, whether it directly affects them or not. A particular source of inspiration was the fact that Stonewall posters in Shalina’s classroom made a student comfortable enough to come out to her last year. The importance of Stonewall’s message is undeniable and scaring ourselves silly for money seemed to be the best way we could help Stonewall to continue building the kind of world we’d like to live in.

“We were terrified at the thought of what we’d signed up to do, but fundraising was a welcome distraction and the Jump for Equality team were fantastically supportive throughout.

“The jump itself was an incredible experience and we would recommend it to anyone. Where better to wear your rainbow laces than 12,000 feet up in the sky?”

EARLSMEAD PRIMARY SCHOOL RAISED £110“After hearing about the Stonewall campaign, our staff wore Rainbow Laces at school and fundraised for the day. The students were very inquisitive and staff explained why we were wearing them and spoke about issues affecting LGBT students.”

MAKING THE MOST OF ONLINE FUNDRAISING

YOU’VE SET UP YOUR PAGE BUT NOW HOW DO YOU GET THE SPONSORSHIP ROLLING IN?

PERSONALISE YOUR PAGE. People will be much more interested if they know your story, so tell them: why this challenge is important to you, and why Stonewall?

PROMOTE YOURSELF. Use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, anything you can to tell your friends about your training or preparation. Share photos, training logs and videos to keep it interesting.

SET TARGETS. Motivate your friends around key targets with messages like, ‘Who’s going to help me hit my £1,000 mark by the end of the day?’ People want the glory of being that friend and will donate a little more to get you there.

TIMING IS KEY. Pay day is the perfect time to remind friends to donate. Then they’ve got no excuse!

SET THE BAR HIGH. Ask close friends and family to donate generously first as others may then match their generosity.

KEEP IT LEGAL Raffles and lotteries are a great way to raise money and get people involved, but it’s important to follow the right guidelines to avoid breaking

any gambling laws.

If you only sell tickets on the day of your event and all proceeds are donated to Stonewall you won’t need a licence. Just make sure that the winning ticket is drawn at the event and don’t spend more than £100 on the costs of the raffle.
