Short information on Metrology and EMRP
Metrology, the science of measurement, plays a role in virtually all areas of human life: from consumer protection, trade, industrial production to areas such as energy, environment, health, security, communications & transport.
EMRP, European Metrology Research Programme, implemented by EURAMET, European Association of National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) (under Article185), enables NMIs, industrial organisations and academia to collaborate on joint metrology research projects.
Metrology is a key enabling tool for fundamental research & innovation in other areas !
EMRP → Calls in (2009 – 2013)
Still possible to use mobility grants (up to 2017)

Short information on EMPIR
EMPIR, European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research : successor of EMRP that will be implemented by EURAMET on the basis of Article 185
EMPIR will
• address Grand Challenges mostly in the areas of energy, environment & health
• open up collaborative research with other research organisations, industry, and metrology Institutes inside and outside Europe.
EMPIR → Calls in (2014 – 2020)
EMPIR will continue to enable European metrology institutes, industrial organisations
and academia to collaborate on joint research projects within specified fields.

Types of Participation in EMRP
For Organisations
Funded: “Partly funded” (NMIs & DIs in EMRP Participating state)
Unfunded (any organisation in the world)
Collaborator (any organisation in the world)
Mobility Grant (Organisation REG) – Fully FUNDED (EU member or Assoc. to FP)
For Individuals (Fully FUNDED + allowances !)
Mobility Grants
REG (High level SEA researchers can apply to do the work in Europe)
RMG (Currently, SEA researchers working in Europe can apply)
ESRMG (For researchers of NMI, DI, JRC in Europe)
T. Yandayan - 6
EMRP Mobility supports
• At least 4 years of relevant research experience
• High level SEA researchers can be employed by home organisation located in Europe
to do the JRP (Joint Research Project) work (1-3 years)
• Salary (4500-6800)€/month + Research and traning allowance 800€/month.
• Family allowance 300€/month
• Other allowances for travelling or visiting to other organisations
• 700€/month overhead for Home organisation
REG (Researcher Excellence Grant)
Individual REG (criteria considering SEA researchers)

EMRP Mobility supports
• Researchers at any stage of his/her carreer
• SEA researchers working in Europe (keeping their working contract in employing
organisation) can apply to do a work in Guestworking organisation in another
country of Europe (1-18 months).
• Living allowance 1800€/month + Family allowance 300€/month,
• Other allowances for travell and visiting etc.
• 200€/month overhead for guestworking organisation
RMG (Researcher Mobility Grant)

RMG (Researcher Mobility Grant)
Proposal for adding the
International Cooperation Partner Countries (ICPC)
THEN, SEA researchers working in SEA (keeping their working contract in
employing organisation) can apply to do a work in Guestworking
organisation in Europe (1-18 months).

Example for SEA Organisation being in EMRP Project
• Based on the information on Task 2.6 report, Thailand (NIMT) and Indonesia (KIM-
LIPI) were invited to EMRP Project proposal “ANGLE METROLOGY” in 2012.
• Both NMIs have state of the art facilities in Angle Metrology established by
Japanese aid programme !
