The International Fund for Agricultural Development

(IFAD), a specialized agency of the United Nations, was

established as an international financial

institution in 1977 as one of the major outcomes of the

1974 World Food Conference. The conference was organized in response

to the food crises of the early 1970s that primarily

affected the Sahelian countries of Africa. It

resolved that "an International Fund for

Agricultural Development should be established

immediately to finance agricultural development projects primarily for food

production in the developing countries." One

of the most important insights emerging from the

conference was that the causes of food insecurity and famine were not so

much failures in food

Since it was created in 1977, IFAD has focused exclusively on rural poverty reduction, working with

poor rural populations in developing countries to eliminate poverty, hunger and malnutrition;

raise their productivity and incomes; and improve the quality of their lives. The Fund has designed and

implemented projects in very different natural, socio-economic and cultural environments. Many

IFAD-supported projects and programmes have been in remote areas, and have targeted some of

the poorest and most deprived segments of the rural population.

The name Empretec – the Spanish acronym for

emprendedores (entrepreneurs) and

tecnología (technology) – has been first introduced in Argentina in 1988. Since its

inception, the Empretec programme has been

initiated in 32 countries, assisting more than 180,000 entrepreneurs through local

focus on their roles as entrepreneurs and challenges them to critically examine their personal strengths and weaknesses. The ETW is an

opportunity for the participants to become more familiar with the behavioural competencies of

successful entrepreneurs, strengthen and enhance those behaviours in themselves, and finally be able to apply the behaviours in their own

Proposals that include matching funds will be given preference. The Grant Application Form must also be completed and is available online. All correspondence must be in English. development and growth. Grantees work directly with the Berghof Foundation. There is no deadline date for this program. Potential partners will be contacted. Georg Zundel Scholarship (GZS) is a 2-year scholarship of € 15,000 per year to PhD students specializing in conflict transformation. This program does not take place every year. Expect the next call for applications early in 2014.
