Accredited by Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) 180 Hours (120 classroom hours and 60 practicum hours)
Course Objectives
The Fundamentals Certificate in early Childhood Care & Education introduces the novice teacher to the early childhood profession by exploring his/her role as a teacher assistant and equippinghim/her with the necessary skills of working and guiding children in an early childhood setting. Byunderstanding the child, the teacher assistant will be able to assist in providing appropriatematerials and daily activities for young children (0-8 years) in the classroom.
The course also aims to raise the assistant teachers awareness in the areas of childrens safety,health, nutrition, child abuse, neglect and professional positions on children.
The assistant teacher will be encouraged to engage in reflective practice, promote positiverelationships with families and foster their positive sense of identity and personal effectiveness.
Course Content
There are a total of 6 modules:

Creative Approaches toCaring and Learning Early ChildhoodCurriculum
Safety, Health andNutrition
ProfessionalDevelopment
Working with Families
Practicum
Assessment
Consists of modular tests,projects and assignments.
Students are also required tokeep a learning journal of the60 hours of practicum.
There will be 2 practicum visitsfrom the practicum tutor.
Certificate
Successful completion of assignments and fieldpracticum leads to the awardof the FundamentalsCertificate in Early ChildhoodCare & Education.

Candidates who:Are 17 years of age andabovePossess a minimum of Secondary 2 Level.
What is the class size?
Each intake is limited to 30participants

How long is the course?
The course consists of 180hours and will be conductedover a period of 5 months andwill comprise:
Tutorials(120 hours)
Practicum with 2supervisions (60 hours )
