Our products can contribute to LEED Credits MR 2.1 and MR 2.2 if the construction waste on the

project is properly diverted from the waste stream.

LEED Credit MR 4 (Recycled Content):

LEED automatically allows 25% for all steel framing products, without documentation.

ClarkWestern Building Systems produces framing products with a nationwide average recycled

content of 48%. The materials for your project may contain higher than the 25%. Specific content

information by region can be found by submitting a CW LEED Request Form online from

clarkwestern.com or contacting our technical support line at 888-437-3244. The recycled content

of ClarkWestern steel framing can help your project qualify for LEED Credit MR 4.1 & 4.2.

LEED Credit MR 5 requires the job site to be within a 500 mile radius of the manufacturing plant

and from the point of extraction of raw materials. With 9 manufacturing facilities nationwide and

the local purchasing of raw materials, projects usually fall within a 500 mile radius of our plant,

steel supplier and raw material source. The proximity of your project to the supply chain can help

That’s why we have provided three ways to make sure you can get the technical support you need, free of charge.

Web support — www.clarkwestern.com contains information on the company, its products and a wealth of other information related to the steel framing industry. This web site also provides you with online tools, such as our submittal generator, and more detailed information about all of the company’s products, including load and limiting heights tables for member sizes and configurations not contained in this printed manual.

Engineering software — To make sure you design structures successfully, we provide engineering software FREE to customers, engineers, architects and students. This state-of-the-art and user-friendly AISIWIN software helps configure exterior curtain wall framing for wind loads, load-bearing framing for combined loads, joists for required spans and anticipated load configurations, etc. A download is available from our web site.

Structural studs and trackStructural studs and track are used for floor and ceiling joists, axial load-bearing walls and curtain walls. Load-bearing members start at a thickness of 33 mils and can be as thick as 97 mils. Members are selected based on the loads they will be required to carry as well as wall and floor thicknesses called for in the building design. To determine which members meet specific load requirements, consult with the ClarkWestern technical representative nearest you and request Product Technical Data & Tables.

Structural studsClarkWestern studs are made in a variety of flange widths to meet different applications. ClarkWestern S162 members are preferred for most axial wall and curtain wall applications. ClarkWestern S200 members are preferred for most joist applications and also are used in instances where the wider attachment surface is desired for panel attachment in walls. ClarkWestern S250 members are desired by contractors who enjoy the added strength and attachment surface particularly for joist applications. Additional member depths of 725, 925, 1150, 1350 and 1400 are also available. All studs and track are color coded for easy identification.

How to identify our products.Steel stud and track members are easy to identify. The numerical code used for each member describes its dimensions and form.

The first three series of numbers relates to the web dimension or stud cavity depth in inches and fractions. For instance 362 is 3.62 inches or 3-5/8 inches.

The letter S or T identifies the member as a stud or track.

The next series of numbers identifies the attachment flange of the stud or depth of the track. For instance 125 is 1.25 inches or 1-1/4 inches.

Separated by a dash, the last number is the metal thickness. So 18 mils is 0.0179 inches thick (25 gauge), 33 mils is 0.0329 inches thick (20 gauge) etc.

Structural trackClarkWestern structural track is designed for use with structural studs. The track is available in matching thicknesses and web dimensions. Typically, T125 track is sufficient for most applications, although T150 legs are preferred by some contractors. The longer-leg T200 track is available for applications requiring additional support or for use in meeting certain seismic construction standards.

Clark slide clipsClark slide clips suspend curtain wall framing members, allowing vertical movement of the structure (deflection) without transferring axial load to the wall system. Angle-type slide clip lateral capacity is 400 lbs.; double clip is 700 lbs. Channel-type slide clip lateral capacity ranges from 600 lbs. to 1200 lbs. depending on steel gauge and strength. RedHeader RO from ClarkWestern can cut your labor time in half. It’s designed to replace lay-in and boxed headers, and there is no need for built-up jambs. This also results in the ability to install insulation more easily. Headers are pre-cut to length and marked red to identify quickly on the jobsite. The adjustable Drop ’N Lock ™ clip makes field adjustments a snap, as well as provides a flat surface for a smooth drywall finish. It also saves you money by reducing material pieces, weight and screws.

Drywall framing products with UltraSTEEL® technologyClarkWestern provides a wide range of cold-formed steel drywall framing products. Designed for non-load-bearing applications, our steel studs and track produces a very strong wall when faced with drywall panels on both sides. Our products are roll-formed, pre-punched and ready for plumbing and wiring. But the real advantage is in our UltraSTEEL technology.

UltraSTEEL is an advanced roll-forming process that improves product performance by creating a higher tensile strength from lighter gauge steel. This patented method work-hardens the steel with two mating rolls, which increases the effective thickness of the material to that of the original thickness, plus the depth of the double-helix ribbing. What’s more is that ClarkWestern drywall framing stud with UltraSTEEL is the industry’s only UL classified interior stud.

L-trim (mudable)Also commonly referred to as #200-B angle shaped edge trim. A quality manufactured product used to finish drywall edges at doors and window jambs.

U-trim (mudable)Also commonly referred to as #200-A U-shaped trim channel. Designed for conditions where complete metal wraparound of drywall edge is required. This trim is finished with joint compound after installation.

Shaft wall and area separation wall systemsShaft wall systems are the “life line” of the building and of critical importance to the safety of its occupants. In case of fire or emergency, the Fire Department takes control of the elevator system, while the building occupants exit the building by the stairwell. ClarkWestern takes this responsibility seriously. All of our shaft wall system components are manufactured to meet or exceed the fire tests for which they were designed.

USG SHEETROCK® brand shaft wall systems (available East Coast only)

These systems are non-load-bearing gypsum panel partitions designed to construct elevator shafts, mechanical shafts, stairwells, air returns and horizontal membranes. SHEETROCK brand shaft wall systems have been comprehensively tested for 1- to 4-hour fire resistance ratings (UL Design No U415) only when all of the system components are used together. Substitutions of any of the components are not recommended.

Metal framing members for the system consist of USG C-H, USG J-runners, USG E-studs and USG jamb strut. Each steel component is formed from galvanized steel to produce a strong, highly efficient member.

USG SHEETROCK® brand area separation wall systems (available East Coast only)

These systems are non-load-bearing gypsum panel partitions that become an integral part of fire-resistive common walls for multifamily construction. Barriers for fire and sound, these walls install quickly and perform effectively. SHEETROCK brand area separation wall systems have been comprehensively tested for a 2-hour fire resistance rating (UL Design No U336) only when all of the system components are used together. Substitutions of any of the components are not recommended.

Metal framing components for the system consist of USG H-studs, USG J-runners and USG aluminum breakaway clips. Used with SHEETROCK brand gypsum liner panels, these components produce a strong, protective fire barrier that also attenuates sound.

GP Georgia-Pacific shaftliner shaftwall/stairwell systems (available West Coast only)

Space-saving GP shaftwall/stairwell enclosures are designed for elevator and air shafts, stairwells, mechanical services and partitions in industrial areas where greater heights are common, and as firewalls between offices, warehouse and manufacturing areas. They are also used in horizontal spans for corridors and stairway ceilings and across mechanical equipment where fire ratings are required and normal suspension supports may be difficult.

Because GP gypsum shaftwall assemblies are built from one side only, there’s no need to access the inside of the shaft. The strong, light gauge galvanized steel C-T studs go up quickly and are secured within the system’s J-track. Most configurations require only these two steel components plus GP shaftliner panels and the specified GP interior gypsum panels to complete the job. Engineered for durability, the GP gypsum systems withstand the air pressure surges of high-speed elevators as well as the lateral impact of stairway doors.

Metal lathMetal lath provides a lightweight and easily attachable base for plaster application. Made from expanded steel, the lath generally is applied flat across the stud plane and attached with staples, nails, or wafer head lath screws. The openings in the lath enable plaster to key around the metal to assure a secure bond and a flat, smooth surface plane upon completion of the plaster application. Metal lath comes in a variety of configurations, including self-furring (dimpled and continuous groove for use over solid substrates ASTM C1063) and paper-backed, to meet specific job requirements and plaster/stucco preferences. ClarkWestern products meet or exceed the requirements of ASTM C847.

Diamond meshA multi-purpose utility plaster/stucco base lath and reinforcement widely used for interior and exterior work. The flat surface is easily cut and formed for curved surfaces and structural fireproofing. Thousands of plaster “keys” assure complete bond.

Self-furring lathSelf-furring lath is available in two styles, dimple and continuous V-groove. Ideal for exterior stucco over sheathing, masonry and other solid surfaces as per ASTM C1063. Both self-furring plaster/stucco bases are manufactured with evenly spaced indentations that hold the metal lath 1⁄4" away from the surface to be plastered. Self-furring lath is available with or without paper backing.

Paper-backed lathPaper-backed lath is used behind traditional stucco, stone and tile installations to help prevent loss of plaster when applying. Also provides protection against wet areas during stucco curing. Is available with flat and self-furring lath. Meets Federal Specifications UU-B-790a, Type 1, Grade “D”, Style 2.

3/8" Rib lath (hi rib)The deep longitudinal ribs provide extra strength enabling use on ceiling spans of 24." This excellent product is also used on 2" studless partitions and as reinforcement for concrete floor and roof slabs.

Spray rib lathA more rigid lath than diamond mesh lath. Spray rib lath is the same 3/8" rib lath except spray rib lath is made with strips of 50 lb. brown kraft paper backing to help prevent loss of plaster over open framing or when machine applied. Spray rib lath is not to be used as a replacement for Grade D breather sheet moisture retardant paper.

Corner and casing beadsPlaster corner beads and casing beads are specifically designed to enable plaster to key properly, while providing the kind of protection that only metal can offer at corners, stops and edges. These components are available galvanized or in zinc when additional corrosion resistance is required. Alternate grounds are also available by special order. Contact your ClarkWestern sales office for details. Note: Corner beads and casing beads are not designed to make up for warped or twisted wood framing.

Control joints and expansion jointsControl and expansion joints are designed to relieve stress and minimize cracking, especially on surface areas of 144 square feet or more. Control joints are applied at points of anticipated stress, and expansion joints attach at points of natural structural variation.

#15 Control joint#15 Expanded wing control joint (double V) is used to relieve stresses in large plastered areas of walls, ceilings and stucco areas. This nearly inconspic uous expanded wing control joint minimizes cracking and assures proper plaster and stucco thickness.
