The FUJIFILM PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION MAPPING SYSTEM for PRESCALE FPD-8010E is a system
that scans the pressurized test piece sampled with prescale film and duplicates it on the screen in full color. It
makes it possible to obtain a variety of information related to pressure that could not be obtained before.
Please read this manual carefully in order to make full use of all the performance of the FPD-8010E.

1 USAGE OBJECTIVES AND CONDITIONS

1 The FPD-8010E is a pressure image system that scans in the pressurization converts this into pressure
values.
2 This system comprises the calibration sheet for automatic calibration and the software and uses the
customer's computer as the processing engine.

In order for the FPD-8010E to operate safely and correctly, use it under the following environmental

Prescale Film1
The types of prescale film that the FPD-8010E can measure are as follows. Select according to the pressure
measurement range.
(For intermediate pressure, there are the two-shot type and the mono-shot type.)
• Prescale film 1MPa = 1.45 x 102 psi, 1mm = 0.04in
Note:
• In this system, pressure measurement values are displayed in MPa.
For details on pressure conversion, see Page 124.
• The upper limit for prescale film color generation is 50 MPa.
Therefore, if pressure is measured using the prescale for medium level pressures (MS type), even if
the actual pressure is greater than 50 MPa, about 50 MPa is displayed.
Areas over 50 MPa with the MS type are not warranted.

Main FPD-8010E System Features2
1. The pressure states can be processed as screen data.
The pressure states can be grasped as screen data from the basic distribution diagram and data can be
acquired using various functions.
2. The screen can be switched with one touch.
You can switch easily from the basic distribution diagram to the 3D software or polar coordinate software.
3. Data can be with part enlargement, pin point measurement, and coordinate origin settings.
It is possible to display part of the display screen enlarged and to display with a different color for each
pressure range. On a part enlargement screen, pin point measurement of pressure values divided into
small increments can be made, so data can be investigated in detail. Also, any point can be set as the
origin of the coordinates.
FPD-8010E System Operating Principles3
1. Prescale film with microcapsules containing color developer and color generation agent applied. The
microcapsules in the color generation agent layer are crushed according to the pressure applied and the
color generation agent released from the crushed microcapsules reacts chemically with the color
developer and turns red.
Because the microcapsules are adjusted to be crushed at various strengths, the darkness of the red
obtained depends on the pressure applied.
2. The FPD-8010E is pressure image software.
3. When the pressurized prescale film is placed on the scan section of the FPD-8010E and scanned in, the
darkness of the red color on the prescale film is scanned, the pressure image software converts this to
pressures, and the results are displayed on the display.
4. The scanned data is displayed on the display with the display method corresponding to the selected
display format.
5. The data displayed on the display can be printed as necessary.
This data can also be recorded to various storage devices on the customer's computer.

Open the Scanner main unit cover.1

1 How to Set the Prescale Film
• Prescale film too large to scan at one time can be scanned divided into up to 15 times. In this case, scan in
overlapping the edges of the scan screens and put together with a composite screen.
For fine adjustment during composing, check the overlap areas in the enlargement window. (The
enlargement window is displayed by clicking the magnifying glass icon on the tool bar, but only when an
inverted image is displayed in the composite window.) When the overlapping images match, the overlap
image section becomes black.
Set the special cover in place, being careful that the prescale film does not move.(Make sure the
special cover is facing correctly.)3

When composing a screen and displaying at the actual size, use the scroll function to display the parts that
are off the screen. The scroll function provides a scroll bar on the right side of the screen and at the bottom of
the screen that allow you to slide the image and bring the parts of the image that are off the screen onto the
screen.

FPD-8010E includes three applications.4
Basic software
Makes new data and saves it the pressures in saved data.
Rectangular area, circular area, point, and XY section pressure is possible.
Polar coordinate software
This determines the origin and with that as the starting point, the pressure distribution on the angle lines,
the circumferential pressure distribution, and the histogram.
3D Software
Thins all the image data to 560x560 data, processes it, and carries out wire frame display, isobaric line
display, X cross-section, Y cross-section, diagonal cross-section, and circumferential cross-section
pressure.(This program can also read files in the mpa format from the old system.)

Starting from the Start Menu2
To exit the software and start it up again, use the start menu.
The startup screen is displayed.2

Click the <Start> menu, then from the <Program> menu, select "FPD-8010E".1

2 SCANNING FROM THE SCANNER
This sets the conditions for the new screen and scans in the prescale film.
Set the prescale film on the scanner.
Align the scan surface with the light front of the scan section. Set the prescale film lustrous surface facing
down. (The color generation surface of the prescale film is the rough side, but the color darkness is
measured on the opposite side, which is the lustrous side.)

When you switch On the Power switch on the FPD-8010E, the READY lamp lights up and the scanner is
initialized.
Start up the FPD-8010E program on the computer.

screen.4

Sample name:
Place the cursor inside the frame and input a name of up to 20 characters from the keyboard.
The sample name is displayed for "Measure Overall" when printing the data, so give an easy to manage
name.
Pressurization date and time:
Place the cursor inside the frame and input from the keyboard. You can also set using the up/down
buttons.
Measurement date and time:
This is set automatically from the computer's clock. To change the displayed measurement date and time,
place the cursor inside the frame and input from the keyboard. You can also set using the up/down
buttons.

2 SCANNING FROM THE SCANNER
Prescale film:
Select the type of prescale film to scan from the pull-down list.
When it is necessary to measure a large pressurization section, it is possible to make a composite of
multiple screens. In this case, set the "number of sheets (screens) in the horizontal direction" and the
"number of sheets (screens) in the vertical direction"
The maximum is "5 sheets horizontal" by "3 sheets vertical" for a total of 15 sheets.
Number of sheets in the horizontal direction:
Set the number of scan sheets in the horizontal direction of the prescale film to be scanned, up to 5.
Number of sheets in the vertical direction:
Set the number of scan sheets in the vertical direction of the prescale film to be scanned, up to 3.
* This software has built-in characteristics curves for different types of prescale film. These
characteristics curves depend on the temperature and humidity, so the temperature and
humidity setting for during pressurization are extremely important condition settings.
Therefore, always write down the temperature and humidity during pressurization and input
this value when creating the new scan.

Input the temperature for when the prescale film was pressurized.

Input the humidity for when the prescale film was pressurized.
Resolution:
Use the pull-down list to select the scan resolution of 0.125 (200 dpi), 0.25 (100 dpi), 0.5, 19, or 29 mm.
Pressure type:
Select which is closer to the way in which pressure is applied during pressurization, either "Sustained
Pressure" or "Momentary Pressure".
For "Sustained Pressure", the time to reach the pressure is 2 minutes and the time the pressure is held is
2 minutes.
For "Momentary Pressure", the time to reach the pressure is 5 seconds and the time the pressure is held
is 5 seconds.
However, for ultra-high pressure (HHS) prescale film, there is only "Sustained Pressure".
* If you click "Cancel" during, the input contents are cancelled and creation of the new file is stopped.

Execute scanning from the scanner with the following procedure.
1) When you click "Scanning", a scan confirmation message screen is displayed.

scanning and the scanning screen is displayed.
If the scanner is cold, the "Waiting for scanner warm-up" display may appear.

If necessary, use the partial enlargement function to compose accurately.
7) When the composing is complete, click "Image" on the menu bar, then select "Complete Editing".

Prescale Film Effective Rate (%) : This is the proportion within the pressure detection range of the
prescale film. It is the red section (within the detection range) of the
total surface area reproduced in red, yellow, and green on the
pressure bar.
(The yellow is the part above the upper limit and the green is the
part below the lower limit.)
Pressed Area (mm2) : Surface area on which color is generated, including yellow and
green
Ave Pressure (MPa) : Average pressure of area on which color is generated, including
yellow and green
Max Pressure (MPa) : Maximum pressure of area on which color is generated, including
yellow and green
Load (N) : This is the load value of the area on which color is generated and
means the product of the pressurization surface area and the

Pin point pressure values can be displayed on the image and a screen copy and list can be printed.
• To copy the pin point screen, right click on the image, specify "Copy to Clipboard", then make the
screen copy with Paint or any other image tool.
• A list can be printed by selecting "File" – "Print" – "Pinpoint Measurement". (See the example of pin
point measurement printing on Page 107 in Chapter 8 Printing and Storing 1 Printing.)
• When is selected, the last measurement specified with pin point specification or area specification is
erased.
* For area specification, each time the mark is clicked, the immediately preceding specified area data is
erased.
• When is selected, all the values measured with pin point specification or area specification can be
erased.
* When a check is marked for load measurement, everything specified with area specification can be
erased together.

3 RECTANGULAR AREA DATA EXPORT FUNCTION
For measurement, clicking the icon on the right of the recycle bin displays a rectangular area on the data
display screen. This function can output the pressure data in this rectangular area as a text file.
The size of the rectangle can be freely enlarged and reduced by right clicking.
The area is finalized by left clicking. When you click, the following dialog is displayed, so specify the text file
storage zoom ratio and the storage destination.
(When you click "OK" with the "EXCEL form preservation magnification setting" below, the window for
specifying the storage destination is displayed.)
* Compression uses averaging processing, not thinning.
The exported pressure data in TXT format can be used in a variety of ways with Excel or other general
software.)
(For Excel, there are only 256 cells across, so select a storage zoom ratio that fits the horizontal pressure
points into 256 or fewer points.)
When you click "OK", the "Save As" window is displayed, so name the file and save it.
When you open this data with Excel, you can open it as a
text file (*.txt).
* The data can be delimited into fields with commas,
tabs, or other delimiter character.
* The delimiting character can be tabs.

• The colored pressure bar displays the internally preset default values, but you can change to whatever
colors you want.
You can freely change a color by picking up the color you want on the color palette and dragging and
dropping it to the correct location.
• To restore changed colors to their original states, click "Reset Color".
• "OK" puts the changed settings into effect and returns the display to the basic distribution diagram
screen.

At startup, the Basic Pattern Chart (Rough) is displayed.
To switch from some other display format to the basic distribution diagram, click the menu bar "Screen",
then select "Basic Pattern Chart (Rough)".1

This is the basic display format with which the FPD-8010E basic software displays the results of pressure.

specification dialog below is displayed, so please set the unit system to use.

If you change the unit system from the menu, the new setting takes effect from the next time the application is

The explanatory text at the bottom of the dialog when the dialog is displayed from the menu differs from the

5) Cross-Section Data Export Function
This function can output pressure data on an "X-axis cross-section", "Y-axis cross-section", "sloped cross-
section", or "circular cross-section" as a text file.
The moment you determine the cross-section, if you click "Save" in the cross-section measurement
window, the pressure data for a maximum of 560 points can be stored as a text file.
When the recorded text file is opened with Excel or other general software, the result is as follows. (The
data is handled as lines.)

3 SETTING THE POLAR COORDINATE ORIGIN
In order to use the polar coordinate functions, it is necessary to first set the polar coordinate origin.

Selection" frame. (During polar coordinate setting, the position information is displayed in mm with the 0 as
the top left of the image displayed on the pressure distribution diagram.)

Recover : Changes the "Present Selection" to the registered origin.

When the polar coordinate origin is set, the position information display colur coordinates as the start point.

4 ROTATING THE IMAGE
The image is rotated with the same method as when a new one is created. When you click the "Rotate"
button on the polar coordinates toolbar, rotation is possible using the dedicated rotation operation toolbar as
in the figure below.

The overall image displayed inverted on the image displayed on the pressure distribution diagram is
displayed overlapped.
Also, the tool bar automatically changes to the one dedicated to rotation operations.
While the rotation function is being used,

Rotating an image generates some error in the image data. This error accumulates each
time you finalize a new rotation, so be careful in using image rotation.

5 CROSS-SECTION DIAGRAM WITH ANGLE SPECIFICATION
This displays a cross-section diagram with an angle specified with the polar coordinate origin as the start
point.

The cross-section diagram with angle specification, circumferential cross-section
diagram, and histogram (circumferential) share the following features in common.
Measurement is only made within the range of the pressure distribution diagram displayed on the screen. The
sections not displayed are not measured.
To measure sections not displayed on the screen, scroll or enlarge/reduce to bring those sections into
the display on the screen, then press the "Renew" button. Measurement is made in the new range
without changing the angle or radius. For cross-section diagrams with angle specification, the
measurements are updated for all the angles.
The cross-section diagram range is not changed unless the "Renew" button is pressed.
If the length of the cross-section diagram is larger than the width of the pressure distribution diagram
displayed on the screen, the cross-section diagram has its own scale. That scale is drawn directly on the
graph.
If the range of the cross-section diagram is shorter than the width of the pressure distribution diagram,
the pressure distribution diagram scale is displayed on the cross-section diagram. (See the diagram on
Page 103.)

circle that is the target for measurement is outside the pressure distribution diagram area, measurement is
made as follows.
Measurement is always made to the left (counter-clockwise).
If the measurement range fits onto the screen, the start point for measurement is set to 0 (straight up from
the origin). If the range is not fit onto the screen, the start point and end point are set as on the figure on
the left.
Also, measurements are only made at one location. If the specified radius is off the screen at two or more
locations, the measurements closest to 0 counter-clockwise from 0 are displayed as the results.

7 HISTOGRAM (CIRCUMFERENCE)
When you input a valid radius and click the "Renew" button, a histogram of the image pressure values is
displayed in the pressure distribution diagram area and at the same time a dialog box is started up for
specifying the percents for cutting the top and bottom of the histogram.
After the histogram is cut at the specified percent value, the maximum surface pressure
value is displayed under the largest surface pressure value. The largest surface pressure
value is displayed in red and the highest surface pressure value is displayed in light blue.
After the histogram is cut at any desired percent, the results
dialog box is displayed. If you select Cancel without
specifying a percent, this dialog box goes out.

If you do not want to cut the histogram data, press the "Cancel" button; otherwise, input the desired percents
and press the "OK" button.
When you click the "OK" button, the histogram changes to one cut off at the specified percents as on the next
page and its maximum surface pressure value is displayed. Also, this is displayed in the results dialog box.
The histogram is created with the measured pressure values as (scale left side value < pressure value
scale right side value).
When you click the "OK" button in the dialog box for specifying the percents, the screen below is displayed.

After stored data is re-loaded and displayed, you can store it in a separate file from the original data.

An image saved with the bmp suffix can be opened with Paint or other general software.
Select the file type, then select the " * " in the file name to input up to 8 characters there as the file name.2

6 TEMPORARY SAVE
Click "File" on the menu bar, then select "Store to Temporary Memory".1
If you want to temporarily store the data, such as before erasing a section, it is possible to store just one data
set to memory.
You can reload and display saved data.
Also, the data is not erased even if the power is switched Off of new data is scanned in.
When you click "Yes", the data is saved.
The display returns to the original screen and the saving ends.2

7 RESTORE FROM TEMPORARY SAVE
Click "File" on the menu bar, then select "Load from Temporary Memory".1
This loads data that was saved to memory and displays it instead of the currently displayed data.
When you click "Yes", the data is loaded.

If data has already been loaded, a confirmation message is displayed. Click "OK".

8 SAVING A LOAD CORRECTION FILE (Function Not Warranted by Manufacturer)
Click "File" on the menu bar, then select "Save Load Correction File".1
If there is a difference between the reading on the user load meter and the "load" by the FPD-8010E, the
FPD-8010E value can be corrected to match the user load.
This difference is based on "differences in the measurement environment" and "differences in the load of
different metals and on the user meter based on the fact that the prescale film traceability is based on a
hydraulic load meter."
If the load value is correct, this is outside the manufacturer warranty because it makes it impossible to secure
traceability for a prescale film system.
(The fact that the load value was corrected can be seen in the data attributes.)
