Been meaning to put this down in words for sometime now. My experience with taichi has mostly been physical. There has been a drastic shift in the way I walk andstand. a lot of things done to my satisfaction after that. Thank you Sifu George. Can't say itsa physical change, but its most certainly because of tai chi.

I actually went in for tai chi to become a tough guy who can flatten people with atouch and blah blah whatever. what I got instead was a path to being more composed(I am a bit hyper, ask the guys who work for me in the shop floor) I don't feel the needto be the tough guy anymore.

Q & A

Certain sects of Indian tradition recommends all the three, viz. meditation,

yogasan and pranayam for physical and mental well being.

For example, sitting in vajrasana, meditating on in flow and out flow of

breathing while performing particular pranayama.

How does Tai Chi combine meditation, forms and breathing while practicing?

M D Rajendran, Chennai

1. While performing the forms the combination of movements is (Hatha

yoga) physical exercise.

2. Breathing is natural in The Authentic Yang Family Taichi. We do not force

or hold the breath. As the sequence of forms change so does the breathing pattern

(pranayam).

3. When we perform the Life package (85 forms) the mind naturally slows

down from going to the past or future and at times we are in a state of No-Mind. This

is, being in the present moment or in others words Meditation (Raaja Yoga).

The greatest advantage is, while we perform the 85 Forms all the 3 yogas are

combined together and done effortlessly. That is why it is known as Chinese Yoga

and Moving Meditation.

Zen Stories

The Gates of ParadiseA soldier named Nobushige came to Hakuin, and asked: "Is there really a

paradise and a hell?"

"Who are you?" inquired Hakuin.

"I am a samurai," the warrior replied.

"You, a soldier!" exclaimed Hakuin. "What kind of ruler would have you as his

guard? Your face looks like that of a beggar."

Page 4: Fu sheng yuan_taichi_academy_oct_2010_newsletter

Nobushige became so angry that he began to draw his sword, but Hakuin

continued: "So you have a sword! Your weapon is probably much too dull to cut off

my head."

As Nobushige drew his sword Hakuin remarked: "Here open the gates of hell!"

At these words the samurai, perceiving the master's discipline, sheathed his

sword and bowed.

"Here open the gates of paradise," said Hakuin.
