FSMS Library Mission Statement

The mission of the library program is to provide an inviting and productive learning environment. We strive to make this a resource-based learning center for all students, teenagers and older. This is the place to retrieve, evaluate, and utilize information. This is accomplished by:

* accessing materials in all formats* providing instruction to foster competence in retrieving

information and materials * working with other educators as partners to meet the

needs of individual students.

Learner-Centered Teaching and LearningTargeted TEKS Objectives Covered for Grade 6-8:

Reading/comprehension. The student comprehends selections using a variety of strategies.

EX. ~ Comprehension skills such as summarization, inference, cause and effect

Reading/inquiry/research. The student inquires and conducts research using a variety of sources.

EX. ~ Reference materials (dictionaries, indexes, specialized encyclopedias, online databases)

Writing/inquiry/research. The student uses writing as a tool for learning and research. EX. ~ Research skills (forming questions, outlining, note-taking, copyright

issues, citing sources, search strategies)

Information acquisition. The student uses a variety of strategies to acquire information from electronic resources, with appropriate supervision.
