Page 1 of 3 FS21 Firestop Panel System Installation Instructions FS21 Firestop Panel is a system used to prevent fire from spreading into adjoining compartments through service penetration openings in walls for a specified period of up to 4 hours. Depending on the required fire protection and acoustic performance required, either a single panel or two panels are supplied. Openings with a minimum dimension greater than 1200mm will require structural support to ensure stability in a fire situation. General 1) Remove all loose material and dust from opening of fire barrier. 2) Ensure that all substrates are free of oil and grease and are clean and dry. 3) Remove all loose debris, oil and grease from the joint. 4) Do not apply the sealant if the ambient temperature is below 5°C as adhesion will be impaired. 5) Mask the adjacent surfaces to the joint. 6) In single and double panel seals, fit Fire Sleeves (50mm proud of the seal each side) to all plastic pipes. 7) In double panel seals, gun FS23 HE Intumescent Sealant (40mm depth x 25mm annular bead) into the panels on both sides of the gypsum wall. 8) Remove electrical trunking lids and fill inside with FS22 Firestop Pillows. 9) Remove any pipe insulation where it passes through the depth of the coated panel and replace with FS24 Firestop Collars. Ensure at least 15mm protrudes from each side of the panel. 10) For chilled water metal pipes, remove pipe insulation where it passes through the seal and replace with Fire Sleeve, protruding 15mm each side of the seal. For chilled water plastic pipes, ensure the sleeve sits 50mm proud of the seal on each side. Using foil tape, reinstate the vapour seal. 11) For ventilation ductwork fire dampers please consult manufacturers for their recommendations. 12) If unsure about the suitability of any service type please consult technical sales office for advice. Installation in Masonry Walls 1) Cut and friction fit FS21 Firestop Panel (50mm thick) around service penetrations, using FS23A Intumescent Sealant as an adhesive on the edges of the panel. 2) Gun FS23A Intumescent Sealant into all joints within the system. 3) Apply FS15 Coating to all joints to provide a monolithic layer. 4) Repeat on other side of wall for improved acoustic performance. Please consult sales office for indicative values.

FS21 Firestop Panel System Installation Instructions FS21 Firestop Panel is a system used to prevent fire from spreading into adjoining compartments through service penetration openings in walls for a specified period of up to 4 hours. Depending on the required fire protection and acoustic performance required, either a single panel or two panels are supplied. Openings with a minimum dimension greater than 1200mm will require structural support to ensure stability in a fire situation. General

1) Remove all loose material and dust from opening of fire barrier.

7) In double panel seals, gun FS23 HE Intumescent Sealant (40mm depth x 25mm annular bead) into the panels on

both sides of the gypsum wall. 8) Remove electrical trunking lids and fill inside with FS22 Firestop Pillows. 9) Remove any pipe insulation where it passes through the depth of the coated panel and replace with FS24

Firestop Collars.

Installation in Masonry Walls

1) Cut and friction fit FS21 Firestop Panel (50mm thick) around service penetrations, using FS23A Intumescent

Sealant as an adhesive on the edges of the panel.

2) Gun FS23A Intumescent Sealant into all joints within the system.

3) Apply FS15 Coating to all joints to provide a monolithic layer.

4) Repeat on other side of wall for improved acoustic performance. Please consult sales office for indicative values.

Installation In Gypsum Walls Framed Out Openings

1) Frame out service penetrations using stud noggins.

2) Cut and friction fit FS21 Firestop Panel (50mm thick) around service penetrations and into framing, using FS23A Intumescent Sealant as an adhesive on the edges of the panel.

3) Ensure that the front face of the coated panel is aligned with the outermost layer of plasterboard.

4) Gun FS23A Intumescent Sealant into all joints within the system.

5) Apply FS15 Coating to all joints to provide a monolithic layer.

6) Repeat on other side of wall. Non-Framed Openings (Pattress Fix)

1) Cut a piece of FS21 Firestop Panel (50mm thick) so that it overlaps all 4 sides of the hole by 100mm e.g. a 200mm x 200mm hole would need a piece of coated panel 400mm x 400mm.

2) Scribe the Coated Panel around the services in a horizontal fashion across the partition. 3) Gun FS23A Intumescent Sealant around the gypsum board in a zone 100mm wide back from the opening. 4) Plant the pieces of FS21 Firestop Panel on to the face of the gypsum board, using FS23A Intumescent Sealant as

an adhesive.

5) Tool off any excess sealant and fill all joints.

6) Apply 75mm long dry wall screws with steel penny washers to each corner of each the panel pieces and screw through the gypsum board.

7) Ensure that dry wall screws and washers are fitted at a minimum of 300mm centres.

8) Paint the exposed edges of the coated panel with FS15 Coating
