REPORT ON WYOMING - March 4 , 1936 - by Mary VI . Dewson

Everyone I tnet wss complacent about winning Wyomi.ng. Governor Miller sai d that some Democrats be knew voted "No·• on the Literary Digest poll because they were not for all New De'll measures, but they would surely vote for FDR. Nothing else could explain the vote . Miller was enthusiastic about increasing taxes to balance the budget , and National Comtnitteelll8n Schwartz spoke on how we bad lived up to the 1932 platform.

The women leaders came from over the state representing d.even out or twenty-three counties and the North-eastern block of i naccessible counties has a district leader, Llrs . John Rusk of Weston County who will soon be back at work.

Llrs . Cobb of Cody (Perk County) is taking the district of Park, Hot Springs, Big Horn and Washakie counties . The Hot Springs leader is Johnson . She is smart and active . She will cooperate with Bill ings, Montana, Big Horn is l.~ormon and well organized. They are active at Grey Bull. Mrs . DeWald, the one 'mo speaks so rernark'lbly on TVA, is in Washakie . JJrs . McNally~ the donkey bank woman, is not so etfeoti ve . Mrs. R. S. Reed whom Mrs. Taliaferro has appointed assistant to l.irs. Quealy, has moved to Casper . She is first rate. Real ly the smartest of them all. Mrs. Hopkins of Rawlins i s Chairman of tbe Central Committee of Carbon County, and nat~rally quite a person . The vlife of Dr. Reployle is sort of an undiscipli ned creature from Fremont County wb ii:>h was 5- 1 Republ ican but last elect ion went Democratic. The Young Democrats are, she says, great ones for arousing enthusiasm. She is well informed on the New Deel.

!'.rs. Taliaferro and lirs . Quealy are a wonderful pair. There is no better team work in the country un l ess C'l1W and L'.\'/D , They both tnake gay, "taking s peee>hes and say something . Wyoming was a relief after the ambitious ladies in almost every other state.

The idea or organization is Just penetrating and ~.lrs. Taliaferro is appointing her district leaders - i s going to have five , but there is no question there are active and intelligent women here •.vho ere interested in the New Deal itself and will do a lot of work.

Everyone is enthusiastic about Senator O' Mahoney and Ir. . c. Greever . Not s knock , National Committeelll8n Schwartz is out for the Senatorial nomination and there are two others .
