Galatians 5:22-23We can't see the Holy Spirit, but wecan see the evidence of His work!

We'll learn about these 9characterisitics this summer!

Love

Use the pink cardstock paper with the cross on it to make an"eternal Valentine"! Decorate it with the other items in the bag

and/or any craft supplies you have at home. Don't forget toinclude the memory verse!

1) How do you think Zacchaeus felt when Jesus approached him and said hewanted to visit his house for dinner?2) Who are some people that you love?3) How do you show them your love? How is that the same or different thanGod's love?

Luke 19:1-10Jesus chose to love Zacchaeus and

be his friend even though he wasunpopular and had sinned.

Read about it! Act it out!One performer is Zacchaeus and pretends

to be in the sycamore tree. Another

performer invites him to dinner-- just

like Jesus. Don't forget to cast "the others"

who grumbled when Jesus was nice to

Zacchaeus!

• Jesus commands us to love each other... even when it's hard!  Sometimes people are

easy to love. But sometimes it's hard. Like when someone has been mean to you. Or

if someone is different than you and you aren't sure how to show them God's love.

• The "eternal Valentine" that you made earlier will help remind you to love others

the way Christ loves you! How does Christ love you? Read Psalm 86:5. God's love is

good! It is ready to forgive! Ready to help those who ask!

Pray about it!Dear God, your love for me is SOBIG! Help me to understand yoursacrificial love. And please help

me love others in the same way--especially those who are harder tolove. Thank you for loving us all! In

Jesus' name we pray, Amen

Practice it!• Two players stand across from each other. One

is the "mirror" and must reflect what the otherplayer is doing.

• We love because HE first loved us! Your loveshould be a reflection of the amazing love that

God has for YOU!

• Give each child a ballon and have them write "LOVE" (or draw a heart) on theflattened balloon.

• Blow up the balloon. It's now much easier to see the words/picture!• When we are filled with God's love, it's easier to share love with others. Without God'slove, our actions don't mean very much. With God's love we have His power to help us

show love to others in a BIG way!

Joy

Color and cut out each petal (notice that each petal has a word thatdescribes God's character). On the back of each petal, write somethingthat brings you joy! Paste the petals together to make a flower. Gather

all of the flowers that your family makes to create a joyful bouquet!

1) How do you think Paul and Silas felt when they were unfairly put in prison? Doyou ever feel like life is unjust or unfair?2) When are some times that you've seen evidence of God's goodness? 3) Is it easier to be joyful when you are focused on unfair things? Or when you arefocused on God's goodness? How can you help each other stay focused on God?

Acts 16:22-34Paul and Silas were beaten and

thrown in jail. Yet they were still joyful! They praised God in the middle of

their difficult circumstance.

Read about it! Sing it!What songs  do you think Pauland Silas sang when they werein prison? Choose a joyful song

and sing it together!

• Sometimes it's hard to be joyful. Especially when things are hard or when life is

unfair. Paul and Silas were treated horribly! It was VERY unfair! Yet they

trusted God's plan and praised Him-- even when they didn't feel very joyful.

• Sometimes, remembering good things can help you feel joyful-- even if in tough

circumstances. When you're feeling grumpy, look at the joyful bouquet your

family made! Remembering God's goodness can help you feel joyful!

Make it!

A twist on "Mother May I": Have each child line up and you call out good orbad things (ex. "your sister shares her snack" or "you fall and skin your knee.)

No matter what you call out, the children should take two "joyful hops"forward and say, "shout to God with joyful praise!" until they reach you. Makesure everyone gets a turn to be the one who calls out the good or bad things.

Create a "joy dectector" with a rolled uppiece of paper. Walk around the house

finding things that bring you joy! Remind yourkids that sometimes we need to search for

the good in our tough circumstances.

Find a buzzer (or a dot sticker and makethe "bzzz" noise). When someone is

tempted to complain this week, they canhit the buzzer. Instead of complaining, they can say this week's Bible verse!

Peace

Give each family member several strips of contruction paper. Havethem write a worry or fear on each strip. Glue them into loops to make

a paper chain (one chain per person).

1) When is it hard to have peace with other members of your family? When is ithard to put aside worries and fears and let your heart have peace?2) How can you be a peace-maker even when someone is rude to you?3) Our memory verse reminds us that we will have trials and sorrows while onearth. Knowing that, how is it possible for us to have peace in our hearts?

1 Samuel 25:2-35Nabal caused anger when he was rude to

David's men. But Abigail was a peace-maker.(You can also find this story on YouTube.

Search: "Abigail Makes Peace")

Read about it! Act it Out!Choose parts and act out the

story as a family! Make sure thatthe one playing "Nabal" isn't too

mean to "David's Men"!

• Abigail didn't have to greet David's men-- it was probably very scary! But her

kind words and actions brought peace to both her family and David's.

• Read this week's memory verse. Sometimes trials or struggles make it hard to

feel peace. Our worries or fears can be like chains on our hearts-- making peace

impossible! Have each person take the ends of their "worry chain" and declare:

"God has overcome the world!" while breaking their chain.

Gather vinegar, baking soda and a cup of water (bonus if you have red food coloring tomake the water red). Pour one tablespoon of vinegar into a bowl. This represents a childpeacefully playing with their toy. Next, pour one teaspoon of baking soda into the bowl.

The fizzing represents when another child steals the toy! After a short while, pour the redwater into the bowl. This will end the fizzing. The red water represents love. Even if we'vehurt someone, when we then show them love, we can live in peace! (Read I Peter 4:8)

Listen to the song, "Peace Like a River" (youcan find kid versions on YouTube). Pull up avideo of river rapids. Discuss how the river

rapids don't look very peaceful! God can giveus peace even when our life feels out of

Set up a flashlight and make some shadowpuppets. Discuss how the shadows look like

different things, but your hands are still hands! Our fears can be like the shadows on the wall, but God's goodness never changes! Knowing

to act and that we must practice patience.

Cut out the pieces on the "scale sheet" of paper. Glue the base of thescale to the cardstock and fasten the arms of the scale with a paper

fastener.

• It's hard to be patient when you see others "get away" with things. It's hard not

to want to take justice into your own hands!

• Think of times when others have made you impatient. For each thing you

think of, tip the scale to left. Now think of ALL the times God has been patient

with you! His patience knows no limits! Tip the scale all the way to the right to

show that God is far more patient with us than we are with others.

1) When is it the hardest for you to be patient?2) What does the Bible say about getting mad and worrying? 3) What can help you remember to "go to God" when you are impatient? How canyou remember that God's timing is always perfect? 4) Parents, do you have a story of when you've had to wait on God's timing?

Encourage each other to stay patient (and not"go bananas") when it falls. Keep trying until

you've completed the challenge!

Do a puzzle together as a family! (If this isalready something your family does, try a

slightly harder puzzle.) As you put it together, talk about how it takes patience to find each

piece and wait to see the final picture.

Put a "Magic Grow Capsule" in water.Talk about how it will take patience to wait

until the capsule dissolves and thecreature emerges!

Purchase several unripe peices of fruit that your children enjoy (like apeach). Taste the unripe fruit. Gross! When we lack patience, we miss out

on the sweet fruits God has for us. Show the other pieces of fruit andexplain that you'll have to wait patiently for them to ripen.

When we wait on God, life is sweet!

Play a board game or card game as a family.Point out how you have to patiently wait foryour turn. After the game, discuss if it waseasy or hard to wait. What would happen if

you did NOT wait for your turn? Chaos!

Grab a blanket and let a family member lay on it.Have the rest of the family carry him a few feeton the blanket. (You might need to have peopleplay more than one role-- unless you have a big

family!) A family member can act out Jesus'miracle and the one on the blanket gets up!

Using paper and various markers/craft supplies, have each familymember make their very own flag. Attach the flag to a straw so it can

be placed in a cup or vase.

• It's important that we show kindness to others. The Bible says that a kind word

deflects anger (Prov 15:1). If someone is rude to you, try being kind in return. Your

kindness, mixed with God's power, can create miraculous results!

• Sometimes it's hardest to be kind to those that are closest to you-- your family

members. When you're "caught being kind" this week, your parents will move your

flag to the holder. Make it a goal for everyone's flag to fly high every day this week!

1) What's an example of a kindness someone has shown you? How did it makeyou feel when the person was kind to you?2) Do you think it was easy for the paralyzed man's friends to take him to Jesus?3) Sometimes we tend to focus only on ourselves and what we want. How doesthat make it harder to be kind in the way that God wants us to?

Kindness

Instead, be kind to eachother, tenderhearted,

forgiving one another, just asGod through Christ has

forgiven you.Ephesians 4:23

Show it!

Dear God, I want to be kind.Help me to be kind even

when I don’t feel like it or whenI don’t think the other person

deserves it. In Jesus' name wepray, Amen

Start with two, empty, clear bottles. Fill one with water. Put a little bit of dirt in theother, then fill with water. (Make sure the dirt is settled in the bottom.) Show that thebottles look very similar, but when you shake them up, one is still clear and the other

is muddy. The Bible says that what you say flows from what's in your heart (Luke6:45). What's in our hearts becomes apparent when life gets "shaken up". When wehave God's love in our hearts, it's easier to be kind-- even during life's tough times.

At dinner, instead of a parent dishing outeveryone's meal, give everyone a chance togive food to someone else (you might wantto plan a non-messy meal!). Serving others

is one way to show them kindness!

easier to show his goodness to others! Let's decorate your craft with some tasty fruit!

Gather berries or other colorful foods and squash them on the paper. (Variation: cut an

apple or orange in half and dip the halves into paint.)

You might need to have family membersplay more than one part-- unless youhave a large family! Take turns lettingeveryone be the Good Samaritan and

helping the man on the side of the road.

Have children write, copy or trace Psalm 34:8: "Taste andsee that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take

refuge in him!"

1) How do you think the hurt man felt when he saw the two others pass by him?How did he feel when the Good Samaritan stopped to help?2) Was it hard or easy for the Good Samaritan to stop and help? 3) What do you do when you see another familiy member is hurting? Our Bible verse tells us that when we have theopportunity, we should show good to everyone.Take turns sharing what that opportunity mightlook like? When do we know that we have an

opportunity to show good to others?

Practice it!Read Luke 3:11. What do you have an

excess of? Food? Toys? Clothes? Put a boxby the door and, throughout the week, fill itwith things you can donate to others who

need it more than you do!

Last week we learned about kindess-- which issimilar to goodness. Kindness means being

considerate to others, wheras goodness means"doing the right thing". Share a time that you did

the right thing even though it was hard.

Cut up the cards of "tricky situations". Throughout the week, read one or two anddiscuss what each family member would do in each situation. Look for times that

you can "catch" your children being good this week (times you see them doing theright thing, even when they think you aren't watching). At dinner or bedtime, tellthem that you noticed thier good deed and reward then with a treat or a sticker.

• Mordecai showed faithfulness to the King by telling him of the others' plot to kill him. This tooka lot of courage! It proved that Mordecai is someone who is  able to be trusted. Someone who isfaithful is someone who can be trusted. We know the God is faithful because we can trust that

what he says is true!• Being a good friend means being someone who is trustworthy. Being a faithful friend meansthat you are loyal to that friend and willing to offer help when needed. Wear your bracelet to

remind you to be a faithful friend. Then make a second bracelet and send it to someone who hasbeen a faithful friend to you!

Take turns pretending that each child isMordecai when he was being rewarded.Put on a robe and have the rest of thefamily declare, "this is what the king

on the rock, explain how they can depend on the rock. That they know it will holdtheir weight. Next, visit a sandbox and make a sandcastle. It is NOT dependable andwill not hold their weight. The Bible says that God is our rock. We can always depend

on him!

Have you ever felt betrayed by someonewho was not a faithful friend? How wouldGod want you to act? Read Psalm 18:25

• The woman DID do something wrong. The crowd had a right to be angry. BUT Jesus came andshowed them a better way. People usually don't change when you approach them with anger.

Showing them gentle love and forgiveness is much more effective. • It's hard to be gentle when someone is mean to you. But the Bible says that a gentle word

deflects anger. It's ok to be angry... it's not ok to be mean. Glue your construction paper squaresonto the cardstock to make a "quilt". Hang it up to remind you to use soft, gentle words. Especiallywhen you are angry or upset. Your feelings are important, but they shouldn't control you. Return

any mean or unjust actions with gentle words.

Think of something that you need to askforgiveness for. You can share it or

think of it silently. Take turns reassuringthat in Christ they are forgiven! Theycan confidently "go and sin no more".

1) When is it the hardest to be gentle?2) Why did Jesus forgive the woman? How do you think the others felt when hedid? 3) When you ask God to forgive you of your sins, He does! And he forgives yoursiblings and parents, too. What does it mean for YOU to forgive them?

Go on a nature walk to look for "cold andpricklies" or "sweet and softies". Give eachchild a bag to collect their finds. We want to

Search Pinterest.com or a "no sew fleeceblanket". Make it with your children! When

you or they start to feel angry, wrap yourselfin the soft blanket to remember to use gentle

Role play some scenarios where you or your child(ren) might betempted to be harsh in their anger. Give a scenario (ex. your sister

steals a toy) and practice different ways to respond. Together, come upwith a gentle and effective reply. Remind your child(ren) that it's ok to be

angry. It's not ok to sin in your anger.

Self-Control

Cut out the lions head and glue to a larger peice of paper. Have yourchildren trace their hands on yellow/orange/brown contruction paper andglue around the face to make the mane. Write the memory verse on the

paper and hang it up where everyone can see it.

1) How do you feel when someone tries to claim something that is yours?2) How did Issac's servants handle the dispute with the shepherds fromGerar? 3) What is the best thing to do when someone picks a fight with you?

Genesis 26:17-22Isaac's servants dig wells, but theshepherds of Gerar keep claiming

the wells as theirs!

Read about it! Act it out! One (or more) performer(s) act as

Isaac's servants and "dig theirwells". Another (or more) act as the

shepherds of Gerar and say, "those are OUR wells!"

• It took a lot of self control for Isaac not to fight with the shepherds of Gerar. Instead he

simply moved on and dug new wells.  He didn't pout or say, "that's not fair!!!"

He didn't fight with the shepherds of Gerar.

• It's hard to have self-control when someone does something that feels unfair.

Temptation is like a sneaky lion who comes to attack. It makes it hard for us to have self-

control my hands or words orthoughts. Please help me to haveself-control and to honor you with

my thoughts, words and actions. InJesus' name we pray, Amen

Try it!• "I'm proud to see you solving your problem with

words, not actions-- way to go!"• "I'm glad to see you saying a Bible verse whenyou were struggling with self-control. Doesn't itfeel so much better to have self-control than to

lose it and create a mess?"

You're graduating Produce Isle! Glue therectangular cardstock onto the paper plate.

Then use the yarn to fashion a tassel.

1) Have you ever graduated or been to a graduation? Did it feel like the end? What was it actually the beginning of?2) Think back to the lessons you've learned this summer. What do youremember? 3) Which Fruit of the Spirit do you want to go back and focus on more?

• A "Commencement Ceremony" is held at the END of your schooling. But did you

know that "commencement" actually means the beginning?  That's because

graduates are just beginning to put into practice what they've learned!

• We've spent all summer learning about the Fruit of the Spirit. But that doesn't

mean your work is done... in fact, it's just beginning!  Keep putting into practice the

things you've learned this summer-- it will be a life-long journey!
