Bringing Training and Skills to a Developing Region in the Light of the Cross

3Skills and Micro- Enterprises

An essential part of CBN’s humanitarian work is skills development. Reflective of our mission to Africa, our goal is to have people self-sustainable so that hunger is eliminated, and purpose restored. In Africa, we’ve identified people who, beyond their desperation, are eager to be great at something – to have purpose. Restoring dignity to a breadwinner has been the greatest reward!Cape Town, South Africa, is home to great skills development projects. Clock-making, computer training and other skill-mentoring have proven popular among young people, in areas of the country rife with gangs and drug abuse. Meanwhile, sewing centers across South Africa are favoured by most women. A sewing centre in Pietermaritzburg, Kwa Zulu Natal, boasts the greatest number of orders from corporate companies while our

centres in Cape Town continue to grow. Women are able to supply clients with good quality sewing work, and produce an income. Nomsa is one great example of the power of mentorship – after completing her training, she now runs her own sewing centre and teaches other women the art while operating her business!Furthermore, most of our centres have vegetable tunnels. We help them set up, providing material and seeds, and they maintain their tunnels – producing good harvests of fruit and vegetables. Individuals are then able to run their own businesses. Fungai became a business woman, growing and selling her own fruit and vegetables. The income produced has helped take care of her family’s needs. We are reaching our goal, one life at a time. It is with partners like you that we continue to press on. Your prayers and your faithful giving into His Kingdom make this all possible!

War has affected a huge part of Africa, often leaving behind broken families. Kenya has experienced this kind of tragedy – in fact; it is going through a tough season right now! Unfortunately, they need more than our prayers. Our team works around the clock to try and meet the immediate needs of people around the world, Kenya included. Just recently, through Operation Blessing, we helped dozens of families through micro-enterprise. Individuals were given substantial startup capital for their preferred business. Some have poultry businesses, others have grocery stores, few sell

coal, and all have seen great benefits! Beneficiaries of the micro-enterprise program were able to rebuild their lives, and take care of their families. More importantly, most of them have met Jesus!

Together with the local church, CBN partners have seen a dramatic increase in church attendance since the program was implemented. Furthermore, each beneficiary has sown into the Kingdom from the profits they’ve made! Without CBN’s help, and without YOUR support, these broken places would have little hope. Thank you for giving hope to

the lost and forgotten.

A heart for Skills Development

His Decision or Permission?

When we want to know God’s will, we must not come to Him with our minds made up. If we have already decided the matter, we really don’t want His will—we just want His permission to do what we want!

God did not give us minds so they would be totally blank. He expects us to use our experience and the wisdom He gives us in our daily lives. As Proverbs 4:6 says, Do not forsake wisdom.

We desire to bring our will into total conformity with the will of God—even if it is difficult. He sends Jonah to Nineveh, Abraham to Mt. Moriah with Isaac, and His Son to the cross. And this is His perfect will.

A key passage is Proverbs 3:5-6. It begins, Trust in the LORD with all your heart. We must completely surrender our own will and commit ourselves to God. Revelation follows surrender—not the other way around. The verse continues, Lean not on your own understanding. It is easy to second-guess God. But He says in Isaiah 55:9, As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways. The cross seems foolish to the world—but to us who are being saved it is the power of God (1 Corinthians 1:18).

Proverbs 3:6 concludes, In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. When we approach Him with trust, when we refrain from leaning on what we think is the smart thing to do, and when we acknowledge that God is supreme in every aspect of our lives, we can have the absolute certainty that our steps are guided by His Spirit. God bless you!

CBN PARTNER PROFILE

Victory Over Crushing DebtWhat to do when finances look bleak

When Doug and his law partner expanded their small practice with three new offices, the financial fallout was stunning. Doug and his wife, Catherine, soon faced a multi-million-dollar business debt and a tax bill greater than twice Doug’s base salary. Interest and penalties accrued daily. They prayed in earnest, asking God for a way out. Despite the apparent hopelessness of their financial situation, these 700 Club partners continued to sow ten percent of Doug’s salary into God’s kingdom. “I still had peace in my heart and Catherine did too,” Doug says. “We knew that God would provide all of our needs.” Doug says that God gave him a plan to present to his partner that would enable him to retain one of the law offices and reduce his por-tion of the debt. His partner agreed. God’s faithfulness was evident: Profits flooded in and Doug soon paid off the entire debt. “When there appears to be no way, He makes a way,” says Doug.

4 STEPS to HEALTHY FINANCESCommit your finances to God.Apply biblical principles of giving.Follow a realistic budget.Resist additional debt.

Easter is one of the highlights of the Christian calendar. There is no reli-gion in the world that can claim that their leader is still living. Confucius, Buddha, Mohammed are all dead and buried. But Jesus Christ lives for ever! The witness of people who saw Jesus for 40 days after His resurrection gives testimony to the fact that He arose from the dead.Paul the Apostle, writing to the Church at Corinth, said these words: For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time...... But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first-fruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. (1 Cor 15: 3-8; 20-22). A certain lawyer by the name of Morrison once set out to disprove theresurrection of Jesus. He used all the arguments that his noble professionallowed. He followed the testimonies of all who had been at the empty tombof Jesus or met Him during those 40 days after His resurrection, andconducted a ‘court case’ with them, setting down all the evidence, togetherwith evidence from the Jewish historian Josephus. After he collected all thefacts he came to the conclusion that the resurrection of Jesus did indeedhappen, and he also discovered that, generations later, people still acclaimthat “Christ is risen indeed” because it has affected the way they live. Theylive moral, upright and righteous lives because of the very nature of theirrelationship with the living Christ. Instead of writing a book disproving theresurrection, he wrote a book called “Who moved the Stone?”, which is heldin high regard still today because of its profound truths based on thewitnesses he found in the scriptures! As we celebrate the death burial and resurrection of Jesus this month, may our lives too be positively affected by these thruths which form the foundation of our faith, together with the resurrection life of our Lord and Saviour within our very characters. In this issue of Frontlines you have read about the development of skills in our communities. Please pray that the light of the Cross of Christ and the power of His resurrection will supply more than skills to use for physical maintenance of people’s lives, but the eternal values they need to really live! Thankyou for your generous support of this ministry that enables us to fulfill our Godly calling as your representatives to a dying world.
