Additional Parts Required

Proper installation of this kit requires the separate purchaseof the following parts which are available at a Harley-Davidsondealer:

• Wheel Installation Kit (See Table 3 and Table 8 todetermine required installation kit.)

• Brake Disc Screws (See Figure 1 and Table 1.)

• Wheel Bearing Remover and Installer (94134-09A)

If installing kit 44615-08, 40774-10, 44657-08 or 43300053 ona Dyna model with stock laced wheels, the separate purchaseof stock brake disc (44553-06A) or polished brake disc(41500012) is required.

The following Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessoriesare recommended for proper maintenance and cleaning:

• Harley® Bright™ Chrome Cleaner (94683-99)

• Harley® Glaze™ Polish and Sealant (99701-84)

• Harley® Wheel and Spoke Brush (43078-99)

• Harley-Davidson® Wheel and Tire Cleaner (94658-98)

• Harley® Preserve™ Bare Aluminum Protectant (99845-07)

Touch-up paint for painted wheels is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer:

• Touch-Up pen, wheel, black (94482)

The rider's safety depends upon the correct installationof this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures.If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you donot have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealerperform the installation. INSTALLATIONNOTE

Use plastic protectors on tire mounting tools and rim clampswhen mounting a tire to a painted wheel.

For wide low profile tires a tire mounting machine with a secondarm to press down on the sidewall while the wheel is rotatingis recommended.

When mounting tires, liberally use tire lube on the wheel andtire.

For tire removal, use plastic inserts between the rim and tireafter breaking the bead to create a large enough gap for therim clamps.

1. Remove existing front wheel assembly. Save axle, axlenut, brake disc (except when replacing a stock laced wheelon a Dyna model) and wheel spacers for kit installation.Refer to FRONT WHEEL in service manual.

For FXSTD models: Discard tapered spacer. Refer toFRONT WHEEL in service manual.

NOTEInstall long valve stem (43206-01) included in the installationkit. Discard all other valve stems.

2. See Figure 2. Install valve stem assembly (M) on wheel.Refer to TIRES in service manual.

Do not re-use brake disc/rotor screws. Re-using thesescrews can result in torque loss and damage to brakecomponents. (00319c)

NOTESInstall the primary bearing first using appropriate servicemanual and WHEEL BEARING REMOVER/INSTALLER.

For Kits 44615-08, 40774-10, 44657-08, 43300053:

• The lettering on the left side of the wheel indicates theprimary bearing side.

• For 2008 and later Dyna models: Install bearing shim(41450-08) under the primary bearing.

For Kits 40882-08, 40141-10, 44627-08 and 43300055:

• For 2006 and later FXDWG Models: When correctlyinstalled, the tire will be 0.08-0.2 in (2-5 mm) off of center,compared to the fender.

• The left side of the wheel has DOT markings.

• For 2006 and earlier FX Softail models and 2007 andearlier FXDWG models: The right side of the wheel isthe primary bearing side.

• For 2007 and later FX Softail models and 2008 andlater FXDWG models: The left side of the wheel is the

primary bearing side. Install the shim indicated in theinstallation kit table.

• For FXSTS models: The right side is the brake disc side.

• For all other models: The left side is the brake disc side.

3. Assemble wheel installation kit components and brakedisc(s) to wheel, using the appropriate service parts table.Refer to FRONT WHEEL in Service Manual.

4. For FXSTD models: Install wheel kit and wheel spacerprovided in installation kit in place of the tapered right sidespacer discarded in Step 1. Refer to FRONT WHEEL inservice manual.

For FXSTS models: Install the spacer provided in theinstallation kit between the stock left side spacer and theleft fork.

For all other models: Install previously removed wheelspacers. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in service manual.

5. Install front wheel (1), stock axle and stock axle nut. Referto FRONT WHEEL in service manual.

MAINTENANCE AND CLEANINGChrome and aluminum parts must be maintained regularly tokeep their original shine and luster.

1. Clean heavily-soiled wheel surfaces using Harley-DavidsonWheel and Tire Cleaner, applied with Harley Wheel andSpoke Brush.

2. Thoroughly clean chrome with a good quality chromecleaner, such as Harley Bright Chrome Cleaner.

3. For bare aluminum features on 40141-10, 40774-10,43300053 and 43300055 wheels, use Harley PreserveBare Aluminum Protectant.

4. After cleaning and polishing, seal the finish with a goodquality sealer, such as Harley Glaze Polish and Sealant.
