Press these operation panel buttons to create a test target: Machine screen / Adjustment Button / 01 Machine Adjustment / 01 Printer Adjustment / 01 Restart Timing Select the tray you are concerned about from the list (button turns green) and press the Copy button (top of the screen) then the Start key. Note: Screen 1 of 4 in this adjustment is for normal weight and size paper (usually 8 ½ x 11, 80gsm). If your situation involves heavy (above 130gsm) or large (11 x 17 or bigger) there are additional “offset” adjustments for those situations and for duplex. When making these “offset” adjustments, be sure to use the actual size and weight paper involved when creating the test charts.

Use the Copy button to print the adjustment chart. When you have the chart, enter the measurements in millimeters for each dimension (1, 2, 3, etc.) in the boxes.

When the measurements are entered press Adjustment Start. Very Important! You must push the Adjustment Start button and then the Close and OK buttons repeatedly to get the adjustment to take. Closely follow the instructions in the black box at the top of each screen about pushing Close and OK. Not doing this part correctly is the most common reason that this adjustment does not appear to work. Most machines will need minimum adjustment for the Front Side. 7. Procedure for finding the screen for Rear Side Chart Adjustment is similar to the front adjustment.

• The adjustment described here is specific to this paper in this tray (valuable for heavy stock and the adjustment can be saved in the Paper Library)

Use the Copy button to print the adjustment chart.

When you have the test chart, hold it with the side with the X (centering) and Y (timing) movement directions toward you check the registration match at the 4 points by holding the page to the light.

• Think of the objects on the side with the XY directions (marked “back”) as being fixed.

• The idea for adjustment is to move the side opposite (marked “front”) the XY directions to match.

• The X and Y arrow directions show how to enter + or – numbers to move the mark as you wish.

• Enter the appropriate numbers in the X and Y boxes on the operation panel.

Closely follow the instructions in the black box at the top of each screen about pushing Close and OK. Not doing this part correctly is the most common reason that this adjustment does not appear to work. To check your adjustment, print another test chart and hold it to the light: Machine screen / Paper Settings button in the lower left / Select your tray /

press Change / Both Sides Adjust / Chart Adjustment Use the Copy tab at the top to output a test chart. Run 4 or 5 test targets to confirm the adjustment result. Readjust if necessary. Specification for front to back registration is + or – 2mm Note: Using the terms front and back in this adjustment has proven to be confusing and should be avoided. Refer to the test target as having a fixed side with the directions and the “other” side that is moved to match.

8. When these adjustments are completed, it assures that the machine hardware is correct. If necessary, there are Image Shift controls in the Finishing tab of both the Fiery and Creo print drivers to refine the image position. Both Quark Express and Adobe In Design have a front to back registration feature as part of the program. Using them may be preferred to using the Fiery or Creo controls to line up front to back page registration. 9. Save the Registration Settings in the Paper Library The settings just completed are specific to both the Paper Type and the Paper Tray currently in use. To use them again they should be saved in the paper library.
