"One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace…" (2 Samuel 11:2) Some have actually called it "BATHSHEBA-GATE." I mean, it was a scandal of huge proportions that would fit well in just about any secular time in history. Not to mention that the people of this world just love a scandal. People literally love to rejoice in the sins of others. Isn't that sad? David failed miserably. How did this happen?

David let down his guard. Verse two of 2 Samuel basically tells us 'it happened.' David was around fifty-two years of age. Scripture tells us that David should have been at war with his men, but for some reason he stayed at the castle. Then he sees this beautiful woman. Like many folks in middle age, David wondered, "Do I still have it?" Well, whatever he thought, he certainly wasn't on guard…and the enemy knew it. The devil knows when you and I are vulnerable and not on guard! Don't forget that David lived victoriously for twenty years. But remember this - yesterday doesn't guarantee your success today. Especially in our spiritual walk. It was what David didn't see that shipwrecked him. He certainly saw Bathsheba that night. But David didn't see that his sin would cause death and struggle in four of his children (the baby, Amnon, Absalom, and Adonijah), or that it would almost split his kingdom in half and brand him a murderer. That's the problem with sin. If you're looking at things you shouldn't be looking at, you're not seeing the whole picture. It's what you don't see that will hurt you. Sin can blind us without us even knowing we're being blinded. So David devises plan A, plan B, and plan C. These were to cover up his sins. Do you see that? When we have to start covering up our choices, that's one really great proof that we've chosen sin. You never have to cover up holiness and righteousness. Plan A was to bring Bathsheba's husband Uriah home from battle to spend the weekend with his wife so that the baby would appear to be his. But it didn't work. Plan B, getting him drunk and sending him home didn't work either. Plan C was anything but tame. It was murder. Tragically, this plan worked. Many of us say things like, "I'd never do something like that." But we have no idea the things we might do in a moment of weakness. The 'fire of sex' was meant for the fireplace of marriage. Once it leaves those boundaries, somebody's going to get burned and burned good. Here's the bottom line: "Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall." (1 Cor. 10:12). May God bless us as we walk in holiness and watch our lives closely.

At MOBC we love our STARS! Each of our programs and activities are designed to help equip our children to grow in God’s principles and standards. I value this opportunity to work with other adults to teach Biblical truths in a fun and creative way. This is God’s plan, nothing new... During his youth years, Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. Luke 2:52 1. Jesus grew in wisdom... relates to intellectual growth. 2. and stature... relates to physical growth. 3. and in favor with God... relates to spiritual growth. 4. and men... relates to social growth.

These words guide us as children’s workers and as parents too. Helping children, birth to sixth grade, glorify God and grow to their full potential in Christ. We do this by being partners, working together in knowing, involving, developing, and serving!
