From Your Principal Highly Successful Spring Fair!

We are highly indebted to our amazing Fundraising

Committee for managing such a successful Spring Fair. This

took an enormous amount of work, time and effort and the

results speak for themselves. To have over 130 stalls involved

and to have such an efficient and well planned fair is a great

credit to all. We wish to acknowledge the hard work of our

parents, particularly those on the committee. This group of

people is led by two dedicated parents, Sheena-Margot

Lavelle and Candi Hinks—we congratulate them! The members of the committee include:

Elana Goncalves, Alice Hilberdink, Leah Burton, Sally Edwards, Tamara Armstrong, Michelle

Ivanovic, Elly Charlston, Lyndall Pratt, Tracy Fitzmaurice, Liz Spence and Kristie Pittman.

What an amazing team! Thank you. We raised close to $10,000 to support the development

of the school. Wonderful!

Please respond to our Parent Opinion Survey

We believe that we have had an incredible year of exciting events and many, many

successes and highlights, one example being the Seussical Junior performances and another

being the Spring Fair. As with all schools, we are currently transitioning to the Australian

Curriculum, and the staff operate within a highly professional framework incorporating

planning, implementing, assessing and reporting. Our digital learning focus strongly

supports student learning across the curriculum. It is very important to us that you let us

know your thoughts about our school.

As part of our annual reporting requirements we do need to gather parent, student and

staff satisfaction information. We are keen to hear from parents who can provide us with

vital feedback through the Australian Curriculum and

Assessment Reporting Authority (ACARA) official

survey form. We highly value parent

opinions as a means of providing

identifying areas of

improvement as well as

Please consider completing the short digital survey through the link provided here:

Parent Opinion Survey Access Code - QH4tjyJK

Please complete the survey by Friday, November 28th. A paper version is available from the

front office if required. The results of this survey will be available to the school community

and published in our Annual Report. Thank you.

Digital Learning Focus

We are continuing to move ahead with our focus on Digital Learning and we are continuing

to build the capacity of all staff and students in their utilisation of iPads and other digital

devices. Students can access a whole range of resources to enhance their learning

experiences and engage in creative outcomes. Several new class blogs are also currently

being developed to support the sharing of student learning. One of our class blogs has had

more than 30,000 hits from around the world. Well done!

Music is Fun!

Students participated in a program of music and fun today. It was an outstanding

performing arts moment for our students as they took part in a very professional learning

experience. Thanks to Kerry Rayner for organising this event.

Craigburn’s Got Talent

This in-school event is not far away. Many children are excited and are practising very hard.

Please encourage them to practise at home. They are having fun!

A Message from your Deputy Principal

Gala Day 2014 - Friday 14th November

Now that our highly successful Spring Fair has passed - it’s the students’ turn to take over

with our annual Gala Day on Friday 14th of November. For those new and old to Craigburn,

Gala Day is an annual event where students showcase their enterprise skills by creating and

running a food, craft or activity stall.

Being a student-led event, students develop important life skills such as creativity,

collaboration, communication and critical thinking.

Only Year 3 - 7 students can run a Gala Day stall. Students who have shown interest in

running a stall, have attended an information session and received a stall holders

nomination form which must be completed and returned to school by Friday morning. The

Gala Day student leaders will then examine and approve the nominations.

On Gala Day, students are encouraged to bring along loose change (coins) to spend at the

stalls. It is up to parents to determine how much money students bring to school. As a

guide, up to $5 for younger students and up to $10 for older students seems to work well.

Session times on Gala Day are as follows:

• Early Years - Reception to Year 2 - 11.30am to 12.15pm

• Primary Years - Years 3 to 7 - 12.15pm to 1.00pm

We look forward to a fun day of student-led enterprise.

Nature Play

Nature Play Passport

In Week 5 your child will be bringing home a Nature Play

“Passport to an amazing childhood”. This passport links to a

website which delivers ‘missions’ children can do whenever they

have a bit of free time. The missions are free, age-appropriate

outdoor activities like ‘climb a tree’, ‘build a cubby’ or ‘ride your bike’ - the kind of stuff

most of you did as kids.

While the passport missions are designed to be fun, they are also an important tool for

boosting children’s development and helping them to increase their dose of exercise and

free-range, imaginative play. By helping to bring unstructured outdoor play back into your

children’s lives, you’ll be building their cognitive, emotional and physical development and

boosting their resilience.

The next time your child starts the “I’m bored” routine why not log on to the Nature Play SA

website (www.natureplay.org.au/passport) and help them to register their passport? Each

time your child completes a mission you can place a sticker on the appropriate mission

page. In fact, the idea is to collect as many stickers or stamps per page as you like to make

the passports fun.

For other great ideas for getting outdoors, visit Nature Play SA’s website and sign up for the

newsletters and Facebook page.

The passports will be distributed on Monday 10th November and there will also be a letter

going out to families outlining how to register online so that your child/children can take

full advantage of the Nature Play SA Passport program.

Celebration Night Our annual Celebration Night will be held Monday 8th December on the school oval. The

evening starts at 6:30pm and students need to be in classrooms, arriving between 6:00pm

and 6:15pm. Students need to eat prior to 6:00pm or after the concert which usually

finishes by 7:45pm.

Families are encouraged to arrive earlier than this to get a spot on the oval banks. Many

families have an early picnic style tea. All students are involved in this fun community

event.

Please note that a sausage sizzle and drinks are available from 5:30-6:30pm outside the

canteen. There will be a flier sent home in Week 6 with more details and class teachers will
