From the Vice President September is the month for Unity World Day of Prayer. It is always the second Thursday of the month. This year, Silent Unity will be opening the 24/7 prayer vigil chapel doors virtually! You can register for the facebook event. Also, the opening Service at the Activities Center at Unity Village will be live streamed beginning at 7 pm central time at worlddayofprayer.org. What a wonderful opportunity to participate! And we will celebrate here in Yakima at our Sunday Service on September 1. You will have an opportunity to list the names you would like to be sent to Silent Unity to be read there on September 12. The theme for this years World Day of Prayer is Infinite Presence, Unlimited Potential, and the affirmation is: I celebrate the vast possibilities of my life.Infinite Presence, Unlimited Potential and vast possibilities. These are mighty ideas to contemplate for our lives and this community. As we connect with the Infinite Presence in prayer, we can become aware of the unlimited potential and vast possibilities that are before us. Last month we had a vacancy on the Board and we are happy to announce that Juanita Beetchenow has agreed to fill that vacancy. Juanita is well qualified to serve on the board. She has been a member of this Unity for about 30 years, and she and her late husband George were married here. She is a past board member and past President. Juanita also served for many years on our Prayer team, and is also a member of the choir. She grew up Lutheran, and then attended the Assembly of God where she taught 6 and 7 year olds in Sunday School for a time. Like many of us, for her, the teachings did not feel quite complete until she attended Unity. Juanita was a Social Worker and she raised 6 children. We welcome her with gratitude. We were privileged to welcome a ministerial candidate for a weekend audition. However, after prayer, discussion, and taking everyones feedback into consideration, the board concluded that this candidate was not a fit for our current needs and future direction. We send her blessings as she continues towards her perfect spiritual community. We then received another promising candidate. Unfortunately, that candidate informed us that she had decided to go in a different direction. While disappointing, our applicants qualifications seem to be getting closer to the candidate that we have been affirming for us, and we know that the right and perfect minister is on their way. Thank you, God! We are being shown that there really are vast possibilities available to us! Lets remember that through the mighty infinite presence there really is unlimited potential within us as we affirm together, we celebrate the vast possibilities of our life.Blessings, Marilyn Freed, Vice President Board of Directors A world powerfully transformed through the growing movement of a shared spiritual awakening. 10:30 am

Another month of great guest speakers thanks to our Speaker Team, Kylle, Juanita & Marilyn H!!

Guest Speaker: Prayer Ministry During the service we will use the Silent Unity Prayer Service for September to enter into deep spiritual

awareness. Then each person will be given an opportunity to light a candle and say a prayer for whoever they wish. And since we are celebrating early in the month, we will collect the names to be read at Silent

Unity on 9/12. Then we will send them to the Village to be included in the service there.

Guest Speaker: Rev. Libby O’Day

Yes, it's 'back to school' time, and we all tend to get serious about getting to work again at this time of year. But what if we learn faster (like over ten times faster) if we make it fun? As Rev Dr Christian

Sorensen reminds us: "Life is your playground! The very nature of the Universe is like Play-Doh. Quantum science shows how the interaction of observation and intention literally shapes the physical reality. In the

same way, your life is shaped by the “hands” of your attitudes and beliefs. What this means is that nothing is permanently the way it is. Everything can be reshaped. You can take

any part of your life and roll it back up into a ball, and begin again. You can renew yourself with a positive attitude, expecting a good outcome for whatever you try. Like a game, you can change the rules or start

over again. Just start playing!" Rev Libby O'Day reminds us to playfully engage with life. Keeping our energy in joy, we can take re-create our lives however we choose.

Guest Speaker: Marilyn Freed Since September is the month for Unity's world day of prayer, we will explore Unity's concept of

affirmative prayer. It is about much more than just asking God for things. Affirmative prayer is the spiritual activity in which we enter into conscious remembering of our oneness with Spirit. And praying

from that consciousness we know and claim what is already true at the level of God Mind.

Guest Speaker: Music MinistryGod gave us a great gift. With it, we can do wonderful things or great harm. Every day we live we make

choices. Some are good and some are not helpful to your Spiritual life or even those around you. We have power beyond all power since we are all a part of God. So then, how will you choose?

ONENESS BLESSING First Sunday of the month 9:45 to 10:15

downstairs in the Library at Unity Spiritual Life Center

What is a Oneness Blessing?

The Oneness Blessing (also known as Deeksha) which came from India, is a non-denominational benediction or transfer of an awakened energy or intelligence which, over time, is designed to bring about the state of Oneness in the recipient; awakening our connection with the oneness in everything, allowing each of us to deepen our relationship with those we love, with ourselves, with strangers and with our creator. It has often been said that if you take one step towards God, then God will take a hundred steps towards you. We have so many ways to take a step towards the divine: prayer, meditation, chanting — in fact every kind of spiritual practice in every tradition. The Oneness Blessing is one way that the divine can reach out to humanity; it is a gift, a benediction of grace.

What to expect when receiving a Blessing: Prior to receiving a Blessing enter the space in a quiet and reverent manner; be seated and center yourself; spend a few moments in meditation. The Oneness Blessing Giver will approach you quietly and will usually stand in front of you (please sit a little forward and make space for the Giver) and will gently place their hands on top of your head for several seconds to a few minutes. Once the Giver is finished, they will quietly step away; allow yourself time to meditate and allow the energy to flow over/through you. Some recipients don’t sense or feel anything, while others feel a subtle shift in energy, and still others may have a strong emotional reaction – all feelings are acceptable, allow them to flow and know that you are safe and held in Divine Love and Grace.

The Oneness Blessing can be transferred by anyone who has received the formal initiation and training during a special process conducted by a Oneness Trainer. These people are often referred to as Oneness Blessing Givers. The Oneness Blessing Giver becomes an empty vessel for the energy to transfer to the recipient.

~Money and the Church~ 2nd article on the theme of Money

It’s not uncommon for people to get uncomfortable talking about money and church. We all know there is a history of corruption, guilt, coercion and false claims connected with church giving throughout history. Historically

‘the church’ was the wealthiest entity in a community, some still exist today but in general, the very opposite is true, many don’t make it, for many reasons, one of which is a lack of financial support. So where does the money come from?

Successful and thriving churches (like successful people) often have multiple streams of income.

The offering plate -this amount is directly related to amount of people that are attending any given Sunday. Summer is traditionally lower giving due to lower attendance. Offering plate giving tends to be higher in Nov & Dec and declines in Jan- Feb and again through summer months. Midweek services also offer another chance to reach more people who can’t make it on weekends due to work schedules or weekend travel.

Tithing- traditionally tithing means 10% of income would be given to the church. Statistically in America, only 1-2% of church congregants tithe and they tend to give 10%-20% of their income to their church. If you’ve never tithed before, why not try it and start with 1%? Unity tithes 10% of it’s income every month because we view tithing as a sacred practice - “what you give, so shall you receive”.

Rental of space- Unity receives money when there are fee workshops held, A.A. groups using our space, renting space for weddings and funerals. Some have an extra house on their property and charge low cost rent for rooms.

Summer Camps and Preschool- week long Vacation Bible Schools and during the school year preschool programs bring in consistent money to many churches and are some of the best preschools in town, while also connecting families with the church. Many churches are also holding After school art programs, Weds evening spiritual education programs and more.

Pancake feeds- Every Sunday the gym of Holy Family is filled with congregants getting breakfast before or after their service, and sometimes during services because they hold more than one. Their Men’s group hosts and runs this, Boy Scout Troop 123 assists once a month and is given a donation from the collections as one of their Troop fundraisers.

Bequests - Many churches survive on the giving of generous former members that designated funds to be donated from their will or trust. A way to leave one’s energy and love behind to do good things in the world according to the person’s values.

Endowments-Some churches have set up endowment programs. This is basically a collection of investments run by a financial manager that specializes in churches and large institutional investing. As this grows, it provides income to the church.

Other: Prayer Shawls- donated knitted, crocheted, sewn or bought shawls that are blessed and infused with prayer- offered in a church’s store, or at a table set up in a hallway before and after church. Unity of Bon Air encourages the sale and sharing of these to be given to people outside of Unity as an outreach. Holy Family does these too. Side ventures: When my late husband was a kid, he helped Father Queen of Lady of Lordes in Selah, move sprinklers for the hay field they had on part of the church land in order to support the church. Father Queen was apparently raised a farm boy and was very adept on making money from anything to support the church.

The modern age of giving: things are evolving because they have to - digital giving is becoming more the norm and with it online offerings of Facebook Live services that reach congregants not able to make it to the building- like the snowbirds, or people recovering from surgery, or those with ill kids. Church Apps are becoming a thing, so people can donate digitally while sitting in the pew, and interesting interactive websites they want to visit and find it easy to push a button and give to their church.

Moral of the story- it’s not a mystery on where the money comes from, it comes from all of us. God gives us talents, and opportunities to use them. We acquire gifts in order to share them. Money only has value if it moves and as it is passed around, the more money moves it actually gains value and produces more. So this month let’s be in a mindful state of keeping open to noticing ways of increasing our personal wealth, as well as our personal giving and investing in our church. Watch for next month’s 3rd article in this series of Money.
