Office Newsletter No29 29 June 2017 From the Principal’s Pen Kia ora whanau Our week began with a powhiri for four reviewers from the Education Review Office (ERO) carrying out a scheduled review of our school. I felt extremely proud of our KapaHaka group and all our children and staff who made our guests very welcome. Many thanks to Matua Alwyn for his guidance and leadership. The external evaluation supports our internal evaluation processes and together they aim to improve education outcomes for our students. ERO’s overall evaluative question is: How well is our school achieving equitable outcomes for all children? They worked to understand how our practices are helping us to improve teaching to accelerate students’ progress. They also explored the conditions in place to promote equity and excellence in reference to ERO’s evaluation indicators which can be found here: http://www.ero.govt.nz/publications/school- evaluation-indicators After an intensive three days of meetings with the Board of Trustees, Lead Team members, visiting classrooms, talking to children and office staff and poring over documentation ERO provided their verbal feedback to the Board and school leaders today. We will provide more information on what they had to say as soon as we can. Matariki Celebrations We are all looking forward to celebrating Matariki and sharing learning from our Term 3 integrated inquiry next Tuesday – 4 th July. We hope your family will join us for an “old fashioned games” evening from 5-7:00pm. Learning Hubs will be open from 5:00pm – 6:30pm and then we finish with a family game of spotlight for those who are game! Remember your torch. If you have more than one child, you might like to pace yourself and move around the Learning Hubs like this: 5:00pm – Kowhai 5:30pm – Matai 6:00pm – Kauri 6:30pm – Spotlight 5:00pm – 6:30pm – Hot dog dinner available in the hall – thanks to our great Home & School Creating awareness and interest in many different games and activities will help our children have a wide range of options for entertainment while some of our traditional play areas become unavailable once our exciting new build gets underway. What a wonderful way to relax and celebrate the end of a busy term of learning! Farewell Last Friday we said a very fond farewell to Jo Howell, a valuable member of our school family since 2010. During that time Jo has been an amazing colleague who has been supporting children with learning and health needs alongside them and within the classroom. Jo has moved onto new horizons and we wish her all the very best in her new ventures. Room 13 - change of teacher Many of you will know that Sarah Parkes is expecting a baby in a few weeks’ time. She will take maternity leave from the beginning of Term 3. These are exciting times for Sarah and her husband, Ed and we wish them all the very best as they prepare to welcome their first child. We are delighted that Mrs Jo Tebbs will join the Year 6 Learning Hub as the new teacher for Room 13. Jo has been part of our teaching team this term, working as a release teacher, attending staff and team meetings while developing strong working relationships with colleagues. She has begun to visit the classroom and will continue to do so in the afternoons for the remainder of the term. In this way we ensure transition between the two teachers is smooth and that quality learning programmes continue for the children. Teacher Aide Positions We have been successful in appointing two permanent Teacher Aide to the vacancies advertised recently. We warmly welcome Angela Porritt, new to our school family and Zabron

Inter-zones

I got up early in the morning. I got dressed

like lightning, like flash.

My legs were jumping like crazy. I just

wanted to get a move on already!

We got to inter-zones and I felt quite

queasy in my tummy. There were

butterflies jiggling and wobbling in my

tummy.

We waited for a really long long long time.

Finally it was time. I jumped in my order

behind the others. My legs were wobbly

and achy.

I speed across the field and zoomed around

the corner. I sprinted the whole way

through the course. It felt like I was a

champion at running cross country. That's

what made me pass all of the fast runners.

John said to me “get in the top ten boy” so

I went as fast as my skinny legs could take

me. I sprinted past one person quite close

to the finish line and then I past one more

person really close to the finish line. I

speed up and came tenth. I was so proud of

myself that day.

IT WAS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE.
