CHALK ART

On October 19 Year 9 and 10 students worked

on two chalk art projects at Wellington High

School. This was part of the Dream Art Festival

being held in Dubbo during October. The two

visiting artists working on the project were Rudy

Kistler and Zac Craig. Before the students

started the work they were shown examples of

3D Chalk art and made some cubes that were

optical illusions. The works were created during

school time outside the Industrial Art building,

with each work taking about an hour to create.

The artworks were drawn up for the students and they applied the colours to create the final

works. The works create an illusion that flat objects drawn onto the ground are three

dimensional when looked at from a certain viewpoint. The two works created were a paintbox

palette and a flying book with a ribbon attached. Students posed for photographs to become

part of the chalk artwork.

Special Ed T-Ball

On Friday the 14th of October, Ian, Angela, Angelica, Nathan, Connor, Charles, Chris, Dylan

and myself all went to Cowra to play T-Ball. It was a long drive and we arrived just on time.

We played our first game only a few minutes after we got there. On the day we played 4

games and finished in 3rd

place in the High School division. We all played well and showed

great sportsmanship by shaking hands with the opposing teams after each game. A special

mention to Charles and Angela who received the best and fairest trophies at the end of the

day’s presentation. I would like to say thank you to Miss Rayson and Deb for taking us. It was

a great day and we all had lots of fun and enjoyed learning new T-Ball skills.

Disability League Tag Day

Selected NASCA Gambirrang Academy (NGA) students from Delroy Campus, Gilgandra High School and Wellington High School participated in the 2016 Disability League Tag event at Caltex Park, Dubbo on Thursday 13

th October 2016.

All the NGA students were very well behaved and excellent ambassadors for their respective schools throughout the day. The students enjoyed the day, with great weather and a chance to meet students from each of the NGA schools, along with plenty water and fruit supplied for the day. All NGA teams made finals except for Gilgandra HS just missing out by one try, however they played really well throughout the day and had some fun while playing and working together as a team. Wellington HS beat Delroy Campus to play in the semi final, also by one try, which was a very entertaining and fun game to watch. WHS went onto to play Western College Alesco to get in to the grand final for the Able Bodied division of the competition. With the scores locked at 10 all at fulltime, sending the game into extra time. With not evening a minute to be played and Deakin Flick scored a sneaky winning try from dummy half for the Wellington NGA team to move on to the Grand Final to verse WACHS. The Wellington NGA team played well but was hard to compete with a team full of League Tag players, with Wellington HS going down to WACHS 8-4. All the students enjoyed the day and it was a very successful event. Travis and Monique of NGA would like to thank and acknowledge the staff from each school for their time and effort with supporting the students to travel and attend on the day. Particular thanks to Adam Ryan and Kaylier Daley, from Wellington HS and Kiaya Leonard and Pat Wilson, from Gilgandra HS.

PART 1 REAL MADRID

I enjoyed this activity because I beat Mr Malcolmson at tenpin bowling, even though he thought he was better. It was good to just muck around with everyone and enjoy the experience!! Arlie Clout

This is my favourite photo because it's a photo of my best mate taking a photo of me. Toledo was great because we got to tour

the city guided and unguided, we bought

gelato and the view was amazing. The

buildings were old and beautiful and we

saw a crazy cello player.

The theme park day was one of my favourite days because we got to go on lots of rides. This picture was taken on one of the water rides and it shows some of the rides and it has Madrid in the background. Rebecca Dutfield

This is my favourite photo from the Real

Madrid trip because it is with my two

annoying room mates and from my

favourite activity we did, riding bikes

around Retiro Park.

Madi Hannelly

This was my favourite photo of the trip because I think it is a good photo and it shows just how good a time I was having. We were watching the Real Madrid game and I liked watching the game because it was a great game showcasing some world class athletes. Harry Broome

One of the best experiences of the trip to Madrid, was that we got to train at the Real Madrid training centre. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I will never forget it. Arki Lewsam

The Real Madrid match and meeting the players was my favourite and the most memorable moment of the Spain Trip. I was able to meet my favourite Real Madrid player Nacho, someone I really look up to and admire. Jemma Turner

I really enjoyed the guided tour of Madrid, as it gave me perspective on the entire city and its architecture. This is my favourite photo of the Plaza De La Ville as it highlights the beauty that the whole city had within its boundaries. Ashleigh Parkes

One of the amazing things we got to do in Spain, was to go and watch Real Madrid play S D Eibar at their home stadium, the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. The stadium was full and the atmosphere was incredible and we all had a great time watching one of the best teams in the world play football. Claude Lewsam

I like this photo of me at the training session when I was being interviewed. The interview was an excellent experience and it was aired on the Real Madrid TV channel on Foxtel/Austar. Madrid is something I will never forget. Will Edwards

My favourite part of the trip to Spain was getting to train at the Real Madrid sports city. The training sessions were awesome and a lot of fun and I would do this trip again if I had the chance to. Jake Veech

The students in the Farm Project visited the Dubbo Rural Skills Centre as part of their course last week. As you can see in the pictures below, the students had a great time learning about the shearing process and what it entails. It was great to see them getting in to assist the shearers and taking a real interest in what to look for with the fleece and identifying the different types. Examples of this include identifying stain and the removal of the stain on the board. There was also a lot of discussion around micron variations and identification. Students also learnt that Wool sheep cannot be left to go without shearing. The wool continually grows and will become heavy, soiled and unhealthy if not annually sheared. The amount of wool clip that comes off an animal and its quality depends on the breed and care of the animal, the Merino wool is renowned for its quality in the textile industry. The students had a campus tour, with Will Dargin, and were given a brief description of the courses offered and what they involve. Example courses include, Horticulture and Certificate II Agriculture. Thank you to Penny Clout (trainer) and Kim Turner (parent volunteer) for organising and assisting the students throughout the day. Penny would like to thank the students for their high level of engagement and great behaviour throughout day. I am looking forward to seeing what the students will do next. F

rom the Road Safety Officer 5 OCTOBER 2016 DOUBLE PARKING IN SCHOOL ZONES CREATES DANGEROUS SITUATIONS Dubbo Regional Council is reminding parents and carers to exercise caution and patience when dropping off or collecting children from school as Term Four resumes this week. Double parking in a school zone is extremely dangerous for any passenger alighting a vehicle let alone children who can be difficult to see and whose movements can be unpredictable. Parents and carers should take the time to find a legal and safe car park before letting children out of the vehicle and also to remind children to exit the vehicle from the kerb side if parallel parked, not from the driver’s side. Potential consequences of children getting out of cars amidst traffic is frightening, let alone children who are alighting cars on the traffic side of a double-parked vehicle. Illegal parking and/or stopping in school zones creates dangerous situations and brings with it some heavy fines as follows: No Stopping - means you cannot stop in this area for any reason - $325 fine plus 2 demerit points. No Parking – means you can stop here for a maximum of two minutes to drop off or pick up passengers and you must stay

within three metres of your car at all times - $180 fine plus 2 demerit points. Bus Zone – School Days – means you must not stop or park your vehicle in a designated school bus zone between 8.00

am and 9.30 am or between 2.30 pm and 4.00 pm - $325 fine plus 2 demerit points. Stop on or near a pedestrian crossing (school zone) - $433 fine plus 2 demerit points. Double parking (school zone) - $325 fine plus 2 demerit points. Parking in a disabled zone without current mobility parking permit displayed - $541 plus 1 demerit point Jayne Bleechmore Road Safety Officer Dubbo Regional and Gilgandra Shire Councils
