Dear Parents/Guardians,
Remembering 2015As the year draws to a close, let us reflect on 2015 which has been dotted with bittersweet memories for all of us. This year, we mourned the passing of a great leader, our founding Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew as well as our fellow educators and students who did not survive the Sabah earthquake.
These poignant events proved to be valuable learning points for all of us as we picked up lessons on character, resilience and compassion.
At Townsville, we have always strived to provide our students with a holistic education in tandem with MOE’s directives to build a student-centric, values-driven education. In August, we embarked on our inaugural P4 day camp to expose our students to life skills and build up their team spirit. The activity was successful in preparing our young charges for their P5 adventure camp next year.
Recognising Our Children’s Artistic TalentsWe are always proud to celebrate our students’ successes. This year, our P6 student, Xandyr Quek, was featured in The Straits Times article ‘New artistic space for children’ on 3 October. The artistic and creative 13-year-old had created a spectacular scale model of Singapore’s cityscape with plasticine and clay which is on exhibition at the National Gallery Singapore. Find out more about Xandyr’s accomplishment in our Townsville Gems.
A Time for RejuvenationThe school holidays present many opportunities for you to spend time with your children. Family bonding is essential to building the ties between you and your child. Take time to invest in this relationship-building so that you can provide the best environment for your child to thrive in school.
I wish everyone happy holidays and a great year ahead!
Best wishes,Mrs Liu-Loh Wee ChengPrincipal

From the Principal’s Desk
This year, our PE and Outdoor Education Committee initiated a one-day camp for all P4 students on 31 August. The camp aimed to introduce our students to life skills associated with the outdoors and to provide them with meaningful opportunities to
work together in teams and build resilience. Judging by the pictures, the students certainly had a fun and productive day!

After term-long lessons on Speech and Drama, our P1 students put up an entertaining performance on 2 September to the delight of their audience. They showcased their talents in public speaking as well as acting before their proud parents.
Thanks to members of Townsville Parents United (TPU), Townsvillites showed their appreciation for their teachers on 3 September with a vibrant concert. Before the concert, all teachers recited the Teachers’ Pledge led by our Principal, Mrs Liu who also delivered the Teachers’ Day message. Our adorable emcees then took to the stage and introduced the concert items for the day.
There was a stirring performance by students from the Angklung and Kulintang CCA with their rendition of Phantom of the Opera followed by some energetic dance performances. Needless to say, it was a fitting acknowledgement from our students for our teachers’ dedication and sacrifice.

A Homage to Our Teachers
Our talented teachers geared up on 8 October to celebrate Children’s Day with a lively concert for our young champs. The day started with mass singing of the Children’s Day song, Semoga Bahagia followed by our Principal’s speech. The P5 and P6 teachers gave the Great Singapore Workout a twist with a comical and upbeat dance routine.
Giving their own account of Cinderella aptly titled, Mark-rello, the P1 and P2 teachers delighted the students with their skilful acting. Simulating The Voice, a popular reality television singing competition, our P3 and P4 teachers left our students guessing the teacher behind ‘the voice’.
Our students were kept entertained with a dance-and-song item by our EAS team and sporting School Leaders who donned colourful wigs to their amusement. The Mother Tongue teachers also entertained all with a lively dance performance led by Mr Mo Liwen. The concert was certainly a memorable one!

Townsville welcomed its first ‘chicky’ residents on 9 October after 21 days of incubation. With the help of Mr Koh Chi Wei and Mdm Felicia, our Science Lab Assistant, 9 chicks hatched successfully from the 15 eggs placed in the incubator. Students could view the chicks at the Chirpy Chicks Station which makes learning through inquiry an enjoyable experience.
Our P6 cohort participated in an array of activities and interactive programmes as part of their post-PSLE enrichment initiative. Our students gained meaningful insights on what to expect in secondary schools when they went for their immersion programmes with selected cluster secondary schools. Outreach talks by secondary schools in Townsville on 6 November also provided our students with opportunities to learn more about the programmes offered in secondary schools.
They also had fun learning body percussion to aid them in their Graduation Day performance and went on interactive learning journeys to Nanyang Polytechnic’s School of Interactive and Digital Media as well as Singapore Discovery Centre.

It was a proud moment for Townsville when P6 student, Xandyr Quek, was featured in The Straits Times ‘New artistic space for children’ on 3 October.
