From the Principal’s Desk
The partnership between home and school is critically important. This month we will be holding
parent/teacher conferences. This is a great opportunity to open lines of communication and set all
of our students up for success.
Parent / Teacher Conferences will be held November 20th from 4:30pm- 8:00pm and November 24th
from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.
This year guidance counselors would like to meet with Senior Parents to discuss college and career
planning during conferences. If you are the parent of a Senior, please call the guidance department
secretary Deb Diamond at 216-529-4032 to schedule an appointment with your child’s counselor.
Please take a moment to schedule your conferences now via our Conference Scheduler at
www.ptcfast.com/schools/Lakewood_High_School or by using the Parent / Teacher Conference link
available on the Lakewood High School page of the Lakewood City Schools website at
lakewoodcityschools.org/school_home.aspx?schoolid=1.
Once you’ve registered, you will receive an email with a link to the conference schedule where you
will be able to select your specific dates and times. If you do not have a valid email address and
wish to schedule Conferences, please call 216-529-4021 for assistance.

Keith Ahearn

SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE
Things are moving quickly on our final phase
construction project. Two of the three meetings
in the latest round of elementary architect
meetings have been held and revised design
plans unveiled. The third and final meeting of
these will be held Thursday, Nov. 6 at 6:30 pm
in the Emerson Elementary Cafetorium. The
revised plans for Lincoln will be presented at
that time.
The community also got its first look at
preliminary design plans for the high school at a
meeting on Oct. 7. These and the new
elementary plans can be found on our School
Construction page on our district website at
www.lakewoodcityschools.org. The
Construction page link is on the left-hand side of
the page under Quick Links.
Finally, the abatement process has begun at all
three elementary schools. Once this process is
finished, which will vary in length depending on
the school, demolition will begin. The earliest
schools will begin to be demolished is January.
At the high school, the construction team is
working on preparing transition spaces for the
students to eat in once the cafeteria is closed off.
Once those spaces are complete, the abatement
process can begin on the east end of the school.
Thanks to everyone for your patience and
cooperation during this time of transition.

th ANNUAL NIGHT AT THE RACES
SATURDAY MARCH 7, 2015
Lakewood High School Orchestra Music Marathon
Saturday, November 15
The members of all the LHS Orchestras spend the day from early morning to late evening practicing music. All 200 plus members come to the high school wearing their PJ’s with pillows, blankets and instruments in hand. Throughout the day different groups take the stage to practice and then in the evening they all take the stage under the leadership of philanthropic donors. It is an all-day slumber party for Lakewood’s finest string musicians.
MUSICIANS: Remember to bring your $5 to help cover the costs of great food all day long!
ORCHESTRA FAMILY and FRIENDS: We will be feeding nearly 200 kids for 12 hours! This event would not be possible without your generous donations of time and food. Click on this link toSignUpGenius to see how we can use your help :

SUPPORTERS, SPONSORS, and CONDUCTORS: See the next page for more details about this amazing fundraising event and how you can make a donation and have the opportunity to conduct the orchestra on the stage of the Civic.
The Lakewood High School Orchestra Program
2014 Sponsorship Form
The Lakewood High School Orchestra Program invites you to sponsor our students this year. Again, we have
decided not to sell you a product at an inflated price so that a company makes money from our students.
Instead, we would like you to directly sponsor a student with a donation. This way you will know that 100% of
your money will go to the education of our students and to the continued improvement of our program.
You might ask, “What do I get for my donation?” Well, ALL the money the students raise will go directly to
the Orchestra Program. Students have had the opportunity to work with professional musicians in sectional
settings and will continue to have this experience throughout the year. With the proceeds of last year’s
fundraiser, we were able to purchase orchestral equipment, uniforms, equipment for The Lakewood Project as
well as a large amount of new music. We will also use the money to maintain our instrument and uniform
inventory. Most importantly we will be able to continue the incredible education the students have experienced
over the past years.
On Saturday, November 15th, 2014, the Orchestras will present a Music Marathon that will last for thirteen
hours.
There is more! That evening, you are invited to come to the Civic Auditorium @ 5:30pm and have “Dessert
with the Arts.” There is even more!! Sponsors at the Composer or Conductor Level and above will be invited
to take the stage and conduct the amazing Lakewood High School Orchestras or play a song with The Lakewood
Project.
Now that you are ready to donate, please fill out the form below and send it to the Lakewood Orchestras with
this fine young musician.
Sponsor Levels:
1. Composer Donations of $200 or more
2. Conductor Donations of $100 to $199.99
3. 1st Chair Donations of $50 to $99.99
4. Officers Donations of $25 to $49.99
5. Friend Donations of $5 to $24.99
All sponsors will be recognized in our programs for this year’s Concert Season. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Return only this portion of the page with your donation.

Guidance News
Dear Lakewood Students and Families,
The first quarter grading period is almost behind us! The LHS Guidance staff has really been
promoting our Seniors to have at least one conference with us to review their high school
record and discuss post-high school plans. Seniors should be completing college applications
at this time and requesting transcripts through the gold forms with $4.00 per school in our
Guidance Office. Remember that we have Mrs. Pam Sandoval from College Now as a resource
for financial aid questions.
Juniors, it is not too early to begin looking at your future plans. Visiting colleges during
school breaks will really help eliminate a lot of the pressures next fall. Tests such as the ACT
and/or SAT are usually taken by juniors at least once during the spring. Log on
to www.actstudent.org and www.collegeboard.org for more information on registration dates and
procedures.
A reminder to Sophomores and
Freshmen that participating in social and
academic extracurricular opportunities can
help make the high school experience more
rewarding.
On behalf of the LHS Guidance Department,
we are hoping that all students have had a
great start to a productive and rewarding
school year!
Sincerely,
The LHS Guidance Staff
