From the Principal

Greetings to all in our college community, and welcome to the inaugural edition of School Days. For some of you who have had a long association with the school, you may recall that in the 1990s there was a publication developed with the title Skool Daze (see below).

This publication was developed to provide families and friends with information about what was occurring at the school at the time. In an attempt to rekindle this tradition, and highlight the student focused opportunities that makes our college great, this biannual publication has now been reimagined.

School Days is planned to be released twice a year in the Autumn and Spring months and is hoped to provide the community with further insight into the wonderful things that happen in our college. We are truly blessed as a school community and I look forward to sharing our journey with you in the publications to come.

In His service.

Leading Through Service

As members of Holy Trinity Lutheran College, students are encouraged to demonstrate leadership qualities each and every day. Regardless of a badge or title, all individuals are asked to lead by example through their actions and words. At the beginning of the school year, the students who

were elected to positions of responsibility were installed as leaders of our college and were called to serve and support all members of our community. Congratulations to these students, and may the time spent in the role as leader be one of joy and fulfillment for you during the school year.

At the beginning of the year we welcomed our Hong Kong guests for their week-long stay in Horsham. The group from both LCK and LSL Lutheran schools had an action packed week and we were blessed to share our college life with them. During their stay they enjoyed taking part in classes at HTLC as well as a number of local attractions including a visit to Halls Gap, Sylvania Park and Mt Arapiles. A highlight of their trip was an overnight stay at the Mallee Bush Retreat where they went horse riding and were led in a number of activities by our Year 9 and 10 Outdoor Education students. Thank you to all staff and families who showed friendship and care toward our guests.

Lifelong friendships were further strengthened as our Year 6 students visited Hong Kong for their cultural tour in March. There were visits to the Peak, museums, markets, Disneyland, schools and so much more. Thank you to our hosts, LSL and LCK Lutheran schools, for their wonderful hospitality during our stay. Thank you also to Mrs Taber, Mr Surridge and parent helpers Mrs Pauline Rudolph and Mr Clint King for the time and care you gave to the students. It will be an experience that they will never forget!

Making Thinking Routine in a Complex World

As educators we recognise that students are living in a world that is constantly changing. As a result, the nature of teaching and learning is also changing from a teacher centred experience to one of student centred experiences that are relational and dynamic. At Holy Trinity Lutheran College, teachers have looked at ways to respond to this by providing opportunities for students that encourage curious, creative, collaborative and critical thinkers.

Over the past year, the college has been involved in a teaching and learning program with Independent Schools Victoria (ISV), in conjunction with the Harvard Graduate School of Education, to look at the necessary thinking dispositions that encourage rich and dynamic thinking. With the purpose of strengthening the learning outcomes of individuals, the Making Thinking Routine in a Complex World project is an initiative where staff and students are provided with the tools to investigate and engage in thinking routines that support deep thinking. As our journey continues this year we look forward to observing how our college supports the learning that matters in the lives of our students.

Meet our Wellbeing Team

Sports News

Holy Trinity Lutheran College is committed to enhancing and strengthening the social, emotional and spiritual development of all students. We recognise that wellbeing is a shared responsibility and is fundamental in every aspect of school culture. This year our wellbeing team will work closely together to provide a high level of support and care for all students at Holy Trinity. The Wellbeing Team consists of the College Psychologist, College Chaplain and College Pastor.

Anne Penny, College Psychologist (Prov.)

Our College Psychologist is provisionally registered by the Psychology Board of Australia under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law. The College Psychologist supports whole school practice by implementing programs to address social/emotional learning and student wellbeing.

Jarryd Noller, College Chaplain

Our College Chaplain engages with students from Foundation to Year 12. A primary focus of the Chaplain is the promotion of student wellbeing through pastoral care, social/emotional learning and supporting students in the areas of beliefs, values, morals, ethics and religion.

Pastor Gus Schutz, College Pastor

Our College Pastor provides another level of support and guidance for all students, in particular to the spiritual life of the college community. He is available to staff, students and parents for counselling and to assist individuals who seek support in relation to pastoral care issues. The College Pastor conducts staff study on a regular basis and has a role in chapel services and various pastoral care programs.

There was a busy start to the sporting calendar this year with three of the college’s major sporting events being held in Term 1, giving students the opportunity to win some valuable points for their House! From these events, students go on to represent the college through the year at the region, division and state levels.
