A very special welcome to our new children and their families. Thank you for choosing Modbury School for your children to begin or continue their education journey, we feel very privileged. The year has started exceptionally well, with children excited to return and meet friends as well as settle into their learning community. For all of our children, learning communities provide an opportunity to learn with a team of educators and build a strong sense of identity, belonging and community when learning. All families will receive a welcome letter from their teacher within the first two weeks, sharing important information about their community, sharing their community commitments to teaching and learning in a safe and secure environment as well as communication processes for contact with teachers. This year in addition to our values of Connect, Challenge and Create, we will be living the mantra of being a ‘Community of Givers’. All of our children and teachers will be sharing what this means within their community and how they will contribute to putting ideas into actions. I look forward to sharing exciting news about this important act that will develop empathy and care for others, building greater community connections. I have had many conversations with parents/carers in the yard in the mornings and after school, and acknowledge that with change, there can be an element of anxiousness for new parents in particular. This is perfectly normal, I invite all parents to talk with their child’s teacher and share your concerns. Our teachers will provide you with information about how your child is managing school and share the celebrations with the giant steps they have all taken with starting school. As always, please note, I am available to chat to parents as well, either in the yard, or by making an appointment with Michelle through the front office. The staff at Modbury School look forward to working with all community members in a positive and constructive way to support all children to achieve their full potential. Monday 10 February - Meet & Greet Night/AGM

Please come along from 4.45pm-5.45pm to a community barbecue where you can chat

to your child/children’s teachers to see how they have settled in. It is also an opportunity

to meet other families.

Governing Council AGM

The Modbury School AGM will be held directly after this at 6pm. If you would like to

attend, please let the front office staff know. We would be looking for new members so

please ask for more information or come along to hear how you can be part of this

parent council. Please let us know if you require crèche for the evening. All welcome!

SCHOOL HOURS

A reminder for continuing families and clarification for new families that

while starting and ending times may vary from school to school, the

common factor is duty of care.

Our starting time is 8:55am and end of day is 3:05pm

We provide supervision in the school yard from 8:35am before school and

until 3:25pm at the end of the school day. All other times are the responsibility of parents unless

OSHC has been arranged.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING

Families who have their child or children at school consistently early or are collected

consistently late will be communicated with and be offered OHSC as alternative

arrangements. We cannot have students waiting in the yard before school unsupervised,

or waiting in the front office for pick up.

If students arrive after 8:55am, they must enter the front office and sign in to receive a

late slip. This late slip is given by the student to their teacher. Please note Learning areas/

classrooms are not to be accessed by families during school hours 8.55am-3.05pm.

If a student is not picked up on time, they are escorted into the office by the duty

teacher. Please ensure that if you are running late that we receive a courtesy call, it also

helps children who may become concerned. Students must be collected from the office

in such instances.

Students who have appointments must be signed in or out by a parent/carer through the

front office. Students will meet parents in the front office upon your arrival. Please note

the staff car park cannot be used for such purposes as we have limited staff car parking

and it is not a safe area for students.

SCHOOL/PARENT COMMUNICATION

Just a reminder that our school will send alerts and notices through the ‘Skoolbag’ app.

Newsletters are generally emailed out to all parents but are also accessible through the app.

The first Newsletter of the year is printed and sent home but all other Newsletters will be sent

electronically. The canteen pricelist was linked to the app earlier this week.

Look for the SkoolBag symbol in your App Store to keep up to date.

NUT AWARE SCHOOL

Nut Aware Zone

We have children attending our school with a life-

threatening food allergy - anaphylaxis to nuts, therefore

our school is a:

NUT AWARE ZONE

To keep everyone safe, products containing NUTS must not be brought to school. This includes nutella, peanut butter, muesli bars with nuts, almond

based products etc - please do not send this products to school.

It is very important that all families and students understand that foods containing peanuts

are not encouraged at school.

We remind families that children are not to share food at school. Please discuss this with

your child.
