FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I would like to say a special thank you to
everyone for your support and feedback since, in light of expected weather
conditions associated with cyclone Gita, we made the very difficult call to cancel Co-curricular week
last week. Although the storm did not hit us here in
the way that we had initially anticipated it might, student and staff safety had to take precedence and
the risk was deemed too great to take.
I was hugely impressed with the maturity our students showed in the face of their disappointment and with the
way they simply got on with their classes from Monday
to Wednesday.
I am also extremely grateful for the way that staff worked so hard to provide a 2-day alternative at the
end of last week. Everyone has reported a really
worthwhile 2 days out and some fabulous experiences, even with abbreviated programmes.
The photo collage on the back page of next week’s
Newsletter will give you a pretty good look at the scope of activities that students were still involved with.
Office staff organising refunds as appropriate. Thank
you everyone for taking this in your stride.

CENTRAL OTAGO RAIL TRAIL
The uniform feedback form
is due back to the College tomorrow - Friday 02
March.
If you would like to have to
a say, please get your completed form back to us
by 4.00pm Friday.
NEW TURF FOR COURTS
The laying of the new synthetic turf will take
place starting next week. Please stay away from this area while the work is being
completed - including the courts, equipment and materials being used.
Once the turf has been laid there will be a set of rules for usage posted near each gate. This will include a ban on
food and liquids (except water), bikes and scooters and other behaviours to ensure our new surface is well
maintained.
Already our students (and others) are very excited to
gain an amazing asset that will serve a variety of sports and physical activities.

visitors slightly back from the “cage”, enabling
better viewing whilst also

Hokonui Tertiary High School is a joint venture
between rural high schools, the Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) and Telford (a division of Lincoln
University). An alternative subject pathway is provided for learners.
The pathways on offer this year are: · Construction & Infrastructure – Construction
· Manufacturing & Technology – Engineering · Primary Industry – Agriculture
· Services Industry – Café and Bar
Achievement of a pathway allows learners to develop
the skills and knowledge towards a vocational career in which they have an interest.
It also allows learners to gain meaningful credits
towards the achievement of NCEA Level 2, with an
endorsement in the respective vocational pathway.
This year we have three students attending the Hokonui Tertiary High School every Friday for the rest
of the school year - Blake Hutchinson, Josh Mordecai and Todd Johnstone.
All three boys are following the Manufacturing and Technology pathway and are taking an engineering
course.
