PAGE 1 Lent is a time when we look deep within, allowing the Holy Spirit to show us those places where we need to change, grow and mature in our faith journey with Christ. While at times it can be uncomfortable, it leads us to a deeper relationship with our Savior. Let us not rush through this Lenten season, but rather let us allow ourselves the time to reflect, pray, repent and listen to what God has to say to us. If we will do this, I believe that it will allow us to come to Easter celebrating the renewal of our faith, a revival of our hope and a renewed claim on the resurrection power that is ours in Christ. My prayer is that you will know the power, hope, peace and life that is all found in Christ Jesus our Lord. He is risen! He is risen indeed! Hallelujah! SAVE THE DATE: SUNDAY, MARCH 6: We will have a SOUPer Bowl lunch to raise funds for Good Works, Inc. after morning worship. Two kinds of soup, salad, bread, dessert and drink will be offered. Dona-tions benefit Good Works, the only homeless shelter in 8 southeastern Ohio coun-ties. Good Works offers a range of programs that offer a hand up, not a hand out. Join us and bring your friends and neighbors! JAM SEEDS Jackson Area Ministries (JAM) collects and distributes seeds to people in many counties to grow their own gardens. Collection baskets will be at sanctuary entrances in March; the deadline will be April 3. Questions – see Shirley Boston. FEEDING HIS CHILDREN AT CLAIRE UMC We are scheduled to serve our first meal at Claire UMC on Saturday, February 27 (our January meal was canceled due to scheduling issues). We are excited as we step out in faith in this new venture serv-ing those in the south end of Columbus. The following month we will serve on Saturday March 26 and would appreciate any donations of cookies or brownies for dessert. Please see Brandi Mahr or Kathi Faulstich if you would like to contribute to this ministry. In February we provided 30 large and 10 small bags of toothpaste and toothbrushes to the guests of the Greater Groveport Area Human Needs Food Pantry. If you would like to help with this ministry, dona-tions of regular and travel-size items such as shampoo, bar soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc. will be appreciated. There is a donation basket on the Missions Collection Cabinet in the parlor. CHRIS CAKES’ PANCAKE LUNCHEON We had a GREAT breakfast-for-lunch with Chris Cakes on February 6 and appreciate all who came to catch their food and visit with others. Thank you for your support!! GOOD WORKS INC WALK FOR THE HOMELESS Six walkers from GUMC attended the Annual Good Works Walk for the Homeless on a beautiful Satur-day, February 20th in Athens, Ohio. Proceeds from our SOUPer Bowl Lunch on March 6 will go to bene-fit Good Works. LIBERIAN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: We plan to kick off our campaign for Liberian student scholarships for the 2016-17 school year in April. Pledge forms will be available then also.

CGMHN ANNUAL MEETING The Center for G M Human Needs will hold its annual meeting at 7 pm on April 4 at the Madison Town-ship Community Center on Hamilton Road. This is open to the public so please attend to hear what CGMHN has done and plans for the coming year.

GUMC is hosting the Seton Parish comfort crew from March 30-the end of

December. The comfort crew makes sleeping bags for the homeless. They

will be gathering on Wednesdays from 10 am-1 pm in the Fellowship Hall,

and all are welcome to stop in and see what they do and join them! Seton

Parish is very thankful for the ability to use our facility while their work area is

being used during construction of their new sanctuary. Jean Ann Hilbert

GUMC is blessed with some very special people who have taken training/background checks to assure the safety of our children during church ser-vices and other special events. A total of 30 people needed to renew their training this year and most have already complied. If you have any ques-tions - please contact any committee member. Thank you SO much. Kay Carter, Pastor Chip Koch, Jean Ann, Mike Hamler and Angela Martin.

On Sunday, April 3, our GUMC choir will present the cantata ‘No More

Night’. Look for additional details in the upcoming weeks!

Save the date! We will be holding our annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday, March 26! There will be a free lunch beginning at 12:00 pm for all adults and children, and the Easter egg hunt will begin at 1:00 pm. The hunt will be broken down in age groups. We need donations of wrapped Easter egg candy to stuff the eggs, or monetary donations to help offset the cost of the lunch. We also need volunteers to help cook the meal and oversee the egg hunt. Thank you for your consideration!

On Thursday, March 24, we will have a Maundy Thursday service at 7:00

p.m. in the sanctuary. Utilizing scripture, reflective readings, and music the

service will focus on the seven last words of Christ from the Cross. Holy Com-

munion will be served. This service will help us to reflect on all that Christ did

for us as well as prepare our hearts for the Easter celebration. Come and join

us for a very special service and invite your neighbors and friends.

The GUMC Lillian Faith Ladies Circle will be having a Bake Sale

IMMEDIATELY after church on Palm Sunday, March 20 downstairs in the

fellowship hall. Homemade baked goods will be for sale. Come to support

the Lillian Faith Circle and purchase baked goods just in time for Easter!

On Thursday, April 2, we will have a Maundy Thursday service at 7:00

p.m. in the sanctuary. The service will feature a drama entitled “I Was

There” which is a dramatic look at the varied emotions and feelings that

were present at the cross on which Jesus died. Doubt, sorrow, fear,

shame, agony, hate, and death were all there and all sought to bring Je-

sus down. While they are all things that are a very real part of our lives,

The GUMC Care Team program started January 2016. The Care Team has

been initiated to make contact with GUMC members who are no longer able

to attend church. During that first month the Team members made 37 con-

tacts! A contact was made of sending a card, making a phone visit, and/or

visit to their home or place of residence. During the January Team meeting,

more parishioners have been added to the list of contacts/visits that will be

made in February. The Team is working hard and making a difference!

If you know of someone that is no longer able to come to church, either on a

permanent or temporary basis, please let Pastor Chip, Charlene Nutter or

Mary Sue Gregg know.

What do the Jewish Passover and Jesus' last supper have in common? Peter Blitshteyn, with Jews for Jesus, will answer that question as he, presents "Christ in the Passover" at the Groveport United Meth-odist Church located at 512 Main St in Groveport, OH 43125-1415 on Saturday, March 19th at 6:30 PM. You'll gain wonderful insights on how the pieces of God's plan of salvation fit together, and you'll re-member this visual display of the Passover pageantry for years to come. Join us for Christ in the Passo-ver from Egypt to Calvary to what it means for us today.

About our Presenter

Peter and his wife Olga are both from the former Soviet Union where he worked as a mechanical engi-neer. They immigrated to the United States in 1995 and recently became US citizens. They both were baptized the same day in 1996 after hearing the gospel at a local church. Peter has served with Jews for Jesus as part of the New York branch since 1999, handing out evangelistic literature, visiting inter-ested seekers, and ministering through our weekly Shabbat Fellowship in the Brighton Beach area. To-day God uses all the creativity and flexibility that Peter learned as an engineer in his ministry. They have three children: Michael, Masha and Hannah.
