We hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable long
weekend with friends and family. It was nice to have a bit
of a recharge of the batteries at this stage of the term. We
have been busy with Sports Day practices in preparation
for next Mondays Sports day – we hope to see you all
there.
Skate Park Visit
Last Friday a group of our middle school students went
down to the skate park at lunchtime as part of a focus on
wellbeing and recognising positive behaviours. The
students had a great time and enjoyed the opportunity to
do something different at lunchtime. Thank you to Mrs
Peters and Jess Jaeschke, who were really impressed
with the behaviour (and skills) of the group, for organising
the trip. Primary students will have the opportunity to do
something similar in the coming weeks.
Parent Seminar
Parenting SA are holding a free seminar entitled “Raising
Brilliantly Behaved Children” on March 21 from 7-9pm at
the Adelaide Convention centre (for anyone who happens
to be nearby). For those of us who don’t plan on being in
Adelaide at that time, you can view the live webcast at
http://parentingsa.eventbrite.com.au. The school will also
be screening the webcast in the Year 9 Homegroup
(middle classroom in the 7-12 block) for anyone who
would like to join us and watch as a group. The seminar is
being presented by Jodie Benveniste, a psychologist,
parenting author and commentator, and will focus on:
Dealing with challenging behaviour in ways that bring
out your child’s strengths and true character
Alternatives to discipline and punishment
Encouraging cooperation rather than conflict
Come along and join us!
Staff Training and Development
Many of our staff members have been attending Training
and Development this term, with a focus on developing
their skills and understanding in a variety of areas to
improve outcomes for our students. Malcolm Rogers,
Sharyn Williams and Lani Hartwig have attended “Back to
Front Maths” workshops (a priority for our Partnership)
which focus on providing challenge and stretch in
Mathematics, through looking at student misconceptions,
learning intentions, clear success criteria and a problem
solving approach. They will be sharing their learning with
other staff members who work in Mathematics and we
have also been watching webinars on a variety of Maths
topics.
Michelle Ottens has attended Positive Partnerships
training which is about working together to support school
aged students on the autism spectrum, and involves
looking at our current practices and planning for areas of
development. Michelle O, Tom Darling and Malcolm
Rogers also attended a workshop about supporting
students with hearing difficulties.
FROM THE LEADERSHIP TEAM Lauren Matthews was involved in our Central Eyre
Partnerships Early Years visit to the Nest – Alberton Primary
School and Blair Athol Primary school and Lauren Broadbent
and Sharyn Williams have been involved in Early Career
teacher training. This week Hannah Wight, Colleen Peters and
I will be attending Learning Design, Assessment and
Moderation workshops for secondary schools. This is only a
snapshot of the learning that is constantly happening amongst
our teachers and SSOs, who are always looking for ways to
develop and improve their practice.
Interviews
School interviews will be held in Weeks 10 and 11 and can be booked through the School Interviews website, as of the beginning of Week 8. This is an important way of communicating with your child’s teachers about their progress and ensuring that we are all working together to achieve the best possible outcomes for our students. More information about how to access the website and make bookings will be in coming newsletters.

R-12 SPORTS DAY 2018
Thank you to Matt Franklin and Symon Chase, for helping with lining the oval in preparation for our upcoming sports day.
The R-12 Sports Day will be held at the Cowell School oval on Monday 19th March, starting at 9am. The 1500m event will be run THIS Friday 16th March at 9am. Everyone is welcome to attend both events.
We are seeking volunteers to help out with field events from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Please contact the school if you are available to help (note, you will be restricted in following your child’s group if you opt to help at a field event).
Students are in one of the three teams (Aries—blue, Scorpio—green and Taurus—red) We encourage students to wear their team colours and suitable athletics attire. For protection from the sun a T-Shirt, broad brimmed hat, sunscreen and a water bottle are essential. Students are required to wear covered shoes during the throwing events (javelin, discus and shot put) and we recommend that they wear suitable running shoes for the other events.
The Year 5/6 will be holding their ‘Snack Shack’ selling sausages and refreshments. Students will need to bring their own lunch, order from the Bakery or buy a sausage. There will be a set lunch time from 12:15-1:15pm and we prefer that students stay at the oval all day rather than returning home for lunch.
A copy of the programme is in this newsletter (please note, minor changes may be made).
Spectators are asked to bring a rug or chair to sit on and if possible some shade. Donations towards trophies and medallions will be gratefully received, please contact the front office staff.

Library Challenge
Could you build a pyramid out of cups? Sound easy? What about if you can not touch the cup with your
hands?
This week a number of students put their minds to the task using a rubber band and string. At first it proved a
little difficult but by the end of the week Charlotte and
Tahlia perfected their strategy and made the biggest tower in our challenge.
Awesome work everyone!
