Volume 3:3 2015 (3 7 August) From the Headmaster MR DAVID CLARK [email protected] Dear Parents, Matric Dance Saturday night’s Matric Dance was exceptional! Our senior students were resplendent in their ball gowns and dress suits and they enjoyed a glamorous ‘Great Gatsby” themed evening in a very impressive setting. An enormous show of gratitude is extended to Miss Cumming who was responsible for coordinating this annual event. The pre-Dance function at the school was hosted by the P&F Committee. Special thanks go to Tinkie James and her team of ladies (Sam Ackerman, Barbie Mark, Marianne Calvert, Jan Beamish, Tania Brodie and Sue Gie) who decorated the venue very tastefully and catered for this aspect of the evening. Well done, ladies! Mountain Biking News Luke Sale (Grade 9) did well this weekend at The Burger MTB competition. It was a challenging event: 42 kilometres with 1190m of climbing involved in the route. Luke came 2 nd in the U15 age group, 6 th in the Youth Men’s division, and 42 nd overall out of the field of 600 riders. Well done, Luke!

Dear Parents, Matric Dance Saturday night’s Matric Dance was exceptional!

Luke came 2nd in the U15 age group, 6th in the Youth Men’s division, and 42nd overall out of the field of 600 riders. Well done, Luke!

Karate National Champion Participating in the Ladies Open division for the first time, Natalie Faint had a very challenging interprovincial Karate tournament last weekend. However, with her usual ‘BMT’, Natalie won the gold medal in the Kata division and then went on to defeat seven tough opponents to be crowned champion in the Kumite (fighting division) too. So Natalie remains undefeated and is again the SA National Champion for both Kata and Kumite. In addition, Natalie went on to win gold in the WP Bunkai division and gold in WP team Unison section! And then to crown it all off, Natalie was awarded the “South African National Champion of Champions” award. Congratulations, Natalie!

Matric Dance Choreography Evening

The matric Dance class

(pictured left) will be doing

their annual Dance

Choreography Evening on

Wednesday evening (12

August) at 7:00pm in the

Pitcairn Auditorium.

You are invited to attend this

evening of spectacular

dance entertainment.

District Six Outing As part of their English and Life Orientation studies, the Grade 10s visited the District Six Museum during the Life Orientation Island Day on Thursday. The visit aimed to deepen students’ understanding of the context of their setwork novel Buckingham Palace: District Six and to be made aware of the human rights issues related to the novel and to the forced removals in District Six. Students were also treated to a special performance by Mr Basil Appollis, renowned South African actor and director who presented extracts from the Grade 10 setwork novel.

Reddam Foundation Golf Day

Foundation scholarship programme that provides the opportunity

for disadvantaged students to attend Reddam House.

We look forward to enjoying this day with you.

Women’s Day Fifty nine years ago 20,000 women marched to the Union Building in Pretoria in protest against the harsh apartheid “pass” laws that limited their freedom and mobility. This Sunday (9 August) let’s celebrate and commemorate their bravery and ferocity on National Women’s Day. Please note that because Women’s Day falls on Sunday, Monday has been declared a public holiday so school will be closed.
