Welcome Saint Florian! (aka Midnights Dream) On August 17th, at the Concord Bowl

Sand volleyball courts, dozens of St Louis Firefighters from 21 departments came

together to claim the title of Volleyball Champions of 2013!

This was the firefighters 21st year of

doing this charitable event, giving all

the proceeds of this tournament to a St Louis non-profit.

The weather was perfect for the games, silent auction,

raffle, food and drink! With CRI Karen Ernst being the

“face of EAT” , her nieces hawking the raffle tickets and

EAT volunteers Scott Smith, Vicki Vogt and Caryn Mun-

dell cheering from the sidelines, the firefighters

reached their goal to purchase EAT it’s long-wished-for

Gypsy Vanner horse.

Named Midnights Dream at birth 7 years ago, he is now

being called Saint Florian after the Patron Saint of fire-

fighters.

Thanks to Karen's brother Mark Chrun (Captain with the

St. Louis City Fire Department) for heading up this event

all these years, St Louis Firefighters Local 73, St Louis

EAT’s first-ever Hoe Down was held on August 24th at our Wildwood facility thanks to a really creative and ambitious committee of ladies, Vicki Vogt - our

Special Events Coordinator, Jody Delf, Lulu Bogolin, Liz Baisch and Liz Johnson and sponsored by Design for To-morrow, Waddell Concrete, Helen Wetterau, Robert Hu-man & Associates, TECH Manu-facturing, Maxs Meats.

We’re so excited to announce that with the money raised at the Hoe Down EAT was able to

acquire this beautiful John Deere 5200 tractor with cab, loader, top link, quick-change bale spike, front to back service, fluid filled tires…delivered!

All this through the help and generosity of Wm Nobbe Tractor in Waterloo, IL and our salesman, Jason Hess as they worked with Gary and Board member Cal Kretsinger to do their best for EAT.

EAT News

EAT enjoyed visits from some of St Louis’ finest busi-

nesses like Ameren, Boeing, Castlewood Treatment

Center, Variety – the Children's Charity, and Whole

Foods Markets.

We love sharing what we do with everyone in the com-

munity and showing off our beautiful facility. They are

always surprised by the list of those

who made everything from the indoor

arena to the fencing possible through

their gifts of time or money.

Collectively, we are truly the “village”

it takes to raise a child !

A HUGE thanks goes out to our WildWood King of

Volunteers, Scott Smith, for pounding the pave-

ment and using his retirement time to raise

awareness of what Equine-Assisted Therapy is all

about. He got us a gig with the

Lions Club Southside St Louis

guys who made a lovely donation

– thanks guys! – and talked with

RPA Construction Services who

also handed Scott a check! Long

reign King Scott!

They give our young people confi-dence and self esteem.

They provide peace and tranquility to troubled souls.

Carla has been with EAT since we held classes at

Crescent Farms as a volunteer with many talents.

Most recently, Carla has taken on the task of

managing our T&C facility, the handling of its

horses, overseeing the Barn Buddies, stock, and

helping the vet and farrier.

Meet Carla Abernathy

Here at EAT we realize that there are HUNDREDS involved in making this program all that it is every day.

Each person, helping in their own way, giving their own “little bit” so that our participants can receive the ben-

efits of riding our happy, healthy horses. We want to thank all of you again and again, over and over, but have

decided instead to hold a Thanksgiving benefit in your honor, Saturday November 16th at our Wildwood loca-

tion starting at 6 pm, so we can show you just a little bit of our gratitude.

For all those who:

feed, groom, catch, shoe, sidewalk, vet, sweep, paint, chop, chip, mop, donate, lead, teach, assist, answer calls,

write, shine, organize, prepare, file, dust, create, spread the word, brush, hose, swing a hammer, haul, tote,

muck, advertise, manage, text, e-mail, hold fund raisers, hold training days, attend training days, shovel, rake,

clean, refer, commit, advise, submit, watch out for, coordinate, guard, fence, mow, trim, medicate, report, pre-

sent, display, demonstrate, …..support!....Equine-Assisted Therapy.

Please join us for dinner, music, memories and the crowning of next years Kings and Queens of Volunteers.

RSVP – [email protected]

Participant families:

This is our time to thank all of the wonderful people who faithfully serve EAT every day. If you would like to

help with this event or have prizes, casseroles or desserts you’d like to donate to the event, please contact

Let’s hear it for Sabrina! Our Queen of Volunteers at WW sent in this e-mail of one of our riders who performed a beautiful routine at our horse show riding Hero BAREBACK!!!! while her father delivered a stirring testimony to his lovely daughter

I just wanted you to know how proud I was of Sabrina the day of the horse show. She

has been working so hard to show what she can do on Hero. She went out there all

by herself, with her father speaking and did a fantastic job riding Hero bareback.

We first got her to ride with one foot out of the stirrup and then two feet. Then we

progressed to two feet out and no reins. Then we went to two feet out and her arms

up and out. Her balance was so good, we told her we would then try bareback the

next week. She really loves to ride bareback. She has such determination and defi-

nitely has the skill to handle Hero who can be stubborn at times. When Sabrina

puts her mind to something she is such a huge success. I love watching the progress

Sabrina has made in the few short years I have been here. Working with Sabrina is

such a thrill and I look forward to it every week. ~~“Queen” Lee

EAT’s Third Annual Horse Show …

“They see within us the feelings and emotions, the uncertainties and fears, which we try to hide and keep secret. Yet that is their magic. For they do not judge and

condemn. Rather, they accept us as we are and help us to heal.” Our participants brought their A Game out for Equine-Assisted Therapys’ 3rd Annual Horse Show on Sept 21st where friends and relatives gathered to watch an amazing demonstration of acquired skills in horse-manship as well as strengthened physical and mental abilities! It was a wonderful day!

Many thanks to our rain-defying prep group who set everything up on a rainy Friday : ~ Carla Abernathy ~ Lulu & Nick Bogolin ~ Jody Delf ~ Liz Johnson ~ Judy Kabbes ~

~ Mary Ladd ~ Eileen Palmer ~ Brandon Roberts ~ Marti Schlegel ~ Allysa Weihe ~

As well as those who came out to help our participants show their stuff! Thank you from the Equine-Assisted Therapy Instructors, participants and our participants families for what you do to make riding possible for this program!
