Climate & Environmental Change Teen Summit

Climate Change 101: March 16, 2011

From Ideas to Action: June 1, 2011

Climate change is a hot topic. Understanding climate change is a burning need.

Students (grades 9-11) are invited to work with

Rutgers University scientists to learn about climate change science to develop community science projects that apply their knowledge of climate change issues in their local communities.

Student teams and their advisors will participate in a series of activities to enrich their understanding of climate change science. Teams of 5-6 students from each school will join together with graduate students and faculty on the Rutgers Cook Campus to discuss climate change research and gain exposure to career and research opportunities in climate change related sciences. As part of the summit, students will engage in planning and implementing climate change related service projects in their local communities.

What's in the Water? Test the water in Rutgers University's Passion Puddle and learn what Rutgers scientists are doing to study water quality and pollution and how this impacts the organisms that live in these environments.

Learn to be a Meteorologist: How does the weather person on the news predict what the weather will be like in the future? Are they psychic? Learn about weather and use similar tools and techniques that meteorologists use to figure out what the weather will be like tomorrow afternoon.

What are clouds made of? Learn about how clouds are formed, what they're made of, and how what we do can impact clouds.

Warren County 4-H Horse Show!

Open to all Warren County 4-H horse members, whether qualifying for the state competition or not – come out and participate in this show. Details and entry forms will be mailed to all 4-H horse members who

register their project horse by April 1st. This will be a great opportunity for 4-H members who cannot take on the expense and time to travel for the state 4-H Horse Show to compete on the county level.

Attention 4-H Clubs Don’t forget to reserve your club’s area in the 4-H building for the week of fair. Your club can now have a 3-D hands display that you can man during fair (or not). But we need to know in advance, so we can plan. Xtra points for incorporating the fair theme in your display! Cleaning of the 4-H building is Thursday and Friday before Fair! Help show off your 4-H pride!

Photography and Needlework These items are prejudged before fair and displayed in the 4-H building the week of fair. All Warren County 4-H youth are welcome to enter items in these shows. The pre judging dates are July 11 for FOODS and 12th for everything else. Drop off Food on July 11 by 4:30 pm. All other items need to be dropped off by 4:30 July 12. For your convenience we will take your craft items on July 11 as well. The items can be picked up on July 13

You will be expected to bring your judged items the Saturday before the fair opens so we can place in the 4-H building for the week of fair. It is there that the ribbons will be placed on the items based on the earlier judging.

Stablemates

January, 2011 – The Stablemates January Meeting was held on Sunday the 9th. The

members spent most of the meetings working on their project books, and then received

updates from their leader on upcoming 4-H happenings. They all began making plans for the

4-H tack sale (where they plan to run the food stand) and for their upcoming meetings. Their

New Year’s resolution? Always plan ahead!!!! Submitted by: Rachel Danitz

February, 2011 – The Stablemates February meeting was held on Sunday the 13th. At the

meeting, Andrew Pryslak and Gracie Klimas gave their presentation on show preparation for

the club members. Afterwards, they all updated project books and introduced themselves to a

new member! They also discussed the upcoming public presentations and Equestrian Of The

Year competition. The members then adjourned with cupcakes. That’s the way it’s done!
