It’s time to fly to another cave!!! When I started 9 years ago with Cirque, I had the chance to begin on Alegria. At that time, I was sure that I was going to stay just a year… Obviously, I fell in love with Alegria, the touring life and the people that I was working with. When I left after 2 years for a new challenge on Corteo, I was always referring to Alegria as the best tour ever. Many years later, I got the opportunity to come back on Alegria. I was a bit afraid that it was not going to be the perfect tour that it was before. When I landed in Korea the tour was in transition and preparing for the arena tour. The vibe was not the best but there was still something special on this tour. After a few months preparing arena we finally hit the road with a lot of new people that completed the tour perfectly. My last year and a half in Arena with Alegria has been definitely, completely, absolutely a life changing experience for me. All of you contributed to it in your own way (even you guys that gave me grey hairs). I will miss: Going to tapis rouge and talk about alcohol in the bus and groceries shopping! Sylvie’s laugh Gen funny stories and her own sign language Smoking a cigarette with my favorite Brazilian chick Amanda’s calmness (still don’t know how she does that) and our gossip time during luggage. Edouard extensive and knowledge of his IT world. Codi with Michel and Tim. Professional, efficient, supportive and so much fun. What I’m looking for on Quidam: A new challenge The same than here Thank you for this incredible experience and making my second time on Alegria memorable. Time has flown by extremely fast by doing a job that I love with a talented group that I will never forget. And this is certainly not goodbye, but until we meet again, I will truly miss our day-to-day interactions in the cave! Take care and welcome at any times on Quidam! Claudine xx

“From the Cave” 4th edition - It’s time to fly to another cave!!!

It’s time to fly to another cave!!! When I started 9 years ago with Cirque, I had the chance to begin on Alegria. At that time, I was sure that I was going to stay just a year… Obviously, I fell in love with Alegria, the touring life and the people that I was working with. When I left after 2 years for a new

challenge on Corteo, I was always referring to Alegria as the best tour ever.

I will miss: • Going to tapis rouge and talk about alcohol in the bus and groceries shopping! • Sylvie’s laugh • Gen funny stories and her own sign language • Smoking a cigarette with my favorite Brazilian chick • Amanda’s calmness (still don’t know how she does that) and our gossip time

during luggage. • Edouard extensive and knowledge of his IT world. • Codi with Michel and Tim. Professional, efficient, supportive and so much fun. What I’m looking for on Quidam: • A new challenge • The same than here☺ Thank you for this incredible experience and making my second time on Alegria memorable. Time has flown by extremely fast by doing a job that I love with a talented group that I will never forget.

And this is certainly not goodbye, but until we meet again, I will truly miss our day-to-day interactions in the cave! Take care and welcome at any times on Quidam!

Ask the Technician by Dave W

1- How many colors (lights) do

we use for Alegria? We have 100 automated lights on Alegria each is capable of creating thousands of different colors, but in the show its self we only use about 50 individual colors. We also use ‘Color correction’ which adjusts the color of the light its self to make it warmer and colder (more yellow and white). The

follow spots have 5 colors in them and they all get used in different parts of the show. These are colored ‘Gels‘ (dyed high temperature plastic) that are placed in front of the light. These wear out and get replaced once a leg, depending on how much they get used in the show.

2- How many light patterns do we use?

We use about 25 different light patterns in the show. We call these Gobos (this comes from a movie term for Go-Between because they go between the lamp and the stage). These are made of a small circle of glass with a very fine layer of aluminum on one side. They are then etched with a laser to make a negative image of the pattern. Almost every individual light in the show has its own unique selection of patterns so we have to be careful when we swap fixtures out that we get the combination correct. We also carry a lot of custom gobos on the show i.e the images we require for the show are not stock catalog images so these are custom made to our specifications. These are used for sponsor logos and a few custom images such as the nymph backlight for trapeze.

3- Which is the most expensive lighting

equipment? How much?

Interestingly, despite all of the high technology on the show, moving lights, control systems etc, our most expensive item of equipment is our feeder cable. This is the cable that feeds, these cables are 3/4 of an inch thick copper and we have over 1000 feet on tour with us. The cable is rated for 400Amps. by comparison the average extension cord for your laptop is capable of 15 amps. The power requirement for our show is approximately 1200 amps in total.

4- How long do you guy stay on the spot light? Is it true that you have a barf bag up there?

We go up to the spot chairs at the 30 minute call, so on a day with a full show version we can be up there for 3 hours at a time. Very rarely we will come down during intermission. Only in dire emergencies. As for the barf bags.... we can neither confirm nor deny the presence of barf bags. We would never even consider going up to the spot hangover............

5- Who is the fastest climber?

We have not raced in a while so I am not going to say in case I get in trouble.

Cheers!

Because you don’t want to marry me!

Why are you leaving me… Ahhh
