By leveraging the popularity of the sport and the Marlins, the program aims to help educators reinforce curriculum standards in a way that's fun and compelling for students. The program targets children in grades 4 through 6, and the lessons are linked to the curriculum areas of language arts, mathematics, science, health/fitness and geography. The 2010 Marlins @ School visits were

held during the last week of May. All Marlins players, coaches, broadcasters and manager visited 21 classes that participated in the Annual “Win-A-Marlin” contest. Schools were visited in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties, and featured student presentations demonstrating what they had learned through Marlins@School.

“O, the power of a letter? In 1998 after retiring from teaching I wrote to Nancy Olson asking to work on fan mail. Since then I have volunteered in many of the Florida Marlins Foundation‟s community projects. I am especially proud of the efforts the Marlins players and staff make on behalf of children in our area but also across the country and even internationally. The Marlins contribute to the of requests from schools, scouts, churches, Boys and Girls Clubs, our service men and women here and abroad, just to name a few. I am a lifelong fan of baseball and love to walk in Gate G to see our team win one more for The Fish! Volunteering for the Marlins Community Foundation provides me with the opportunity to connect with our loyal and generous fans and in some small way make a difference. GO MARLINS!” - Eileen F. Delaney

“I have been a volunteer for the Marlins for over 10 years. Because of my love for baseball, the Marlins were the best choice for me before and after retirement. I love going to the office and interacting with the young staff. I love reading the letters fans write to the Marlins. It makes me feel proud that our team is popular all over the world. I love Friday and Saturday night raffles because I get to be among the fans and help raise money for the Community Foundation. Without the

Marlins, life would be very dull.” - Sandy Doner

children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse,

neglect, or abandonment. The Village setting allows brothers and

sisters, often separated in foster care, to be reunited. nurturing and

support that SOS provides prepares them to be productive members of

society. SOS is accredited by the Council of Accreditation,

recognizing its continuing high standards and the quality services

provided to foster children. The Florida Village is part of a worldwide network of over 450 villages caring for disadvantaged children.

family outings, and playing with their friends. However, the SOS Village philosophy goes beyond providing just a roof, a bed, food and

clothing. The community of employees, volunteers, and friends enable the Village to provide numerous support

services such as case management, behavioral health services, therapy, tutoring, and life skills to help each child adjust, heal, and thrive as

they grow.

Since 2002, the Florida Marlins Community Foundation have been part of the SOS family, making a difference in the lives of

the Village children. With the help of the Marlins Wives, the Foundation hosts an annual Back to School drive for school

supplies, a Tackle Box Auction and offers tickets to SOS families for summer fun. Their support and friendship extends into the

off-season as Marlins staff and family members help with the holiday gifts and decorating as well as other special SOS events
