FROM THE ACTING PRINCIPAL YEAR 6 LEADERSHIP POSITIONS FOR 2013 At last Friday afternoon’s assembly Stephen had the great pleasure of announcing our Year 6 Leadership positions for 2013. At Chatham, we are very proud of our leadership program in that all of our 60 Year 6 students hold posi-tions of responsibility. We value all of these positions as being equally important and providing our students with fantastic opportunities to develop their confidence, leadership and organisational skills. Every one of our Year 6 students are school leaders and understand the importance of these positions in setting the tone of the school and in becoming the acceptable role models for all our students. Our Year 6s have been groomed for their positions of responsibility since last year when they took on the role of Yr 5 Buddies to our 2012 Preps, as well as having partici-pated in a Speaking with Confidence program in Term 4 in readiness for running our school assemblies. These extra-curricula programs including the Yr 6 Leadership program which operates every Thursday afternoon are supported by various staff members to ensure that all students are provided with opportunities to develop these important skills. Congratulations to the following Year 6 students on being selected for their 2013 Leadership Positions

FROM THE ACTING PRINCIPAL PAGE 3 FAIR FEVER If the hive of busy parents around the school is anything to go by then the Summer Fair is sure to be a great suc-cess after all the hard work that has been put in for the past 18 months. This Saturday is our big fundraising and community event so we all look forward to fine weather and lots of fun on Saturday afternoon and evening. If you still haven’t put your name down to help out on a stall on the day, volunteers for setting up on the Saturday morn-ing and cleaning up on Sunday morning will always be appreciated. SCHOOL ASSEMBLY – STOP PRESS Due to the Fair this Saturday and setting up the hall in preparation on Friday, there will be no School Assembly tomorrow. As this was to be our Year 6s first opportunity to run our Assembly in their new leadership roles, we have decided to hold a special Monday morning assembly at 9am instead, so that reports and awards are still rel-evant and the buzz of the school fair is still in the air! The Friday assembly for next week will also still go ahead as planned at its usual time of 2:40pm. It was great to see so many parents in attendance at our last Friday assembly. SCHOOL RULES Tomorrow the Classroom Rules, Specialist Rules, Rules for Riding Bikes, Ripsticks, Skateboards and Scooters to School, and Outside Rules will be going home with every student. Please read over these rules with your child and sign and return the Code of Behaviour slip. All grades have been working on establishing their class rules so that their classroom is a safe, happy and productive place to be each day. While it’s great to see so many of our families out walking and riding to school each day, sometimes it is hard to police students once they are out of the school grounds to ensure they are riding safely and dismounting and wheeling their bikes and scooters in the following streets for pedestrian safety: Benson Street, Weybridge Street between Wharton Street and Banool Road, and Banool Road along the school boundary. This year I am encourag-ing all our families to take the opportunity to walk or ride to school with their children on Ride2School day, Friday 22nd March, and practise and reinforce these safe behaviours. More promotional material will be coming in the following weeks. HEALTH PROMOTING SCHOOL Involvement in activities such as Ride2School Day are a great way to get active and promote health and well-being for all members of the school community. This year we are beginning a new journey to become accredited as a Health Promoting School after the success of our Sustainable School 5 Star Award. There are 8 health priorities that the school must work through over the next few years such as, Healthy Eating and Oral Health; Physical Activ-ity; Mental Health and Wellbeing; Safe Environments and Sun Protection. As this Achievement Program is also about ensuring the heath of all community stakeholders in the school, I will be looking for parents who are inter-ested in joining the Health and Wellbeing team as an extension of the Education Committee. More information in next week’s newsletter to follow. BRONWYN ORR ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
SCHOOL UNIFORM We've managed to get through the start of the year with a fairly seemless supply of uniforms, despite moving the uniform shop to Surrey Clothing. Surrey Clothing have done a great job in ensuring a continuous supply of uniforms and have been very keen in offering advice and feedback to us. Thank you to all the families who have made this work as the school will ben-efit from this. Just a few reminders:
The school gets commission on every purchase you make. So please make sure you tell the staff at Surrey Clothing, at the point of sale, that you are from Chatham.
2nd hand purchases are still available at the school office. We aim to keep this service at school. We really encourage all families that no longer need their good quality uniforms, to give them to the school so we can sell them via the 2nd hand channel.
We have updated the Uniform page on the Chatham website with a "users guide to purchasing uniforms". This docu-ment is written by experienced Mums who have very good knowledge of the uniform garments and trends over recent times. If you are considering buying an item, take a look at the document - you might get some useful tips!
If you have any feedback, please register it using the Surrey Clothing website. We will be looking through the feedback at our quarterly partnership meetings with the aim to improve the offering to families. Our first partnership meeting with Surrey Clothing will be at 3:40pm on Wednesday the 13th. All welcome. If you want to participate, please let Louise Ross know on [email protected]
