First Baptist Church members park in the east parking lot to listen to Pastor Caple’s ser-mon by FM Transmitter Sunday, April 19. Photo by John Groves
Caple gave his sermon on FM 88.1.Minus a few first time technicalglitches, it came off like a charm, every person who sat in the privacyof their vehicles, was able to listento the sermon. The church mem-bers could see their fellow mem-bers and wave at them or say a fewwords from a safe distance. It wasjust the right medicine for every-one, as most people are beginningto have the effects of “CabinFever” or basically, tired of beingcooped up in the house.
Pastor Caple said the hardestthing to not have is that physical in-
teraction we all thrive on and craveas human beings. He also said oursociety has a deep fear of this virusand is afraid to get out among oth-ers because they believe they mightbecome a victim. If you watch thenews every night you will see thedeath rate increase rapidly in otherstates such as New York and otherlocations. It makes you feel thatcatching the virus is just rightaround the corner and the unknownalways causes fear. However, thou-sands have recovered from thevirus.
I asked Pastor Caple what kind
of impact this virus was having onthe monetary stability of thechurches. Pastor Caple said wehave and will, take a hit on contri-butions or tithing. He went on tosay that a donation canister eachSunday, has been put up at the drivethru under the awning which allowspeople to get out and put their con-tribution into the canister after thesermon. Or, people can mail theirtithes to First Baptist church, POBox 269, Dixon MO 65459.
Another method Pastor Capleand the congregation set up for itsmembers to give tithes is through a
new system called “Push Pay”which allows the members to attachan app. to their phones and desig-nate how much they are giving andfor what if any certain subject suchas an example, the Lottie Moon Of-fering.
Pastor Caple said since a signif-icant number of people are now outof work, their ability to make con-tributions have been greatly re-duced or completely discontinued. This obviously has a profound im-pact on the bottom line of thechurch. Pastor Caple said, “We willweather this storm called the virusand God will make things right.”We have to place our faith in himand know it is his master plan.
Pastor Caple said many peoplehave turned to religion seeking an-swers through their new found orregained faith. You can see it everyday in the news media where peo-ple are engaging in prayer and giv-ing thanks for small miracles.Pastor Caple went on to say, “Thevirus has even bolstered my faithand has given me more belief as thebible has told us of past plagues anddisasters.”
I then asked him what if any-thing has caused him to test or losehis faith. Pastor Caple said he hasnot lost faith in God but has lostfaith in some of the government atthe state level due to the constraintsof freedom. He said he has morefaith in people as a whole and thesmall businesses by the way oftheir actions to keep going in thesetrying times.
I asked Pastor Caple what impactthe virus has had on him. He saidthe virus makes him intent on car-ing for the basics of food and thewell being of he and his immediatefamily in addition to his churchfamily, Pastor Caple said he is con-cerned his parishioners will losethat connection between them andthe church. He said depression cancause people to question their faithand it is his job to keep all of hischurch family connected and intime this will pass and the churchwill gather again to worship God inhis house. Pastor Caple wantseveryone to know he will be con-ducting a sermon every Sunday onthe FM Transmitter at 11:00 a.m.and all are welcome to come.
It should be noted that the FirstBaptist Church is but one church inthe local area that is conductingsimilar or same methods of gettingout the word of God to their flock. Those Pastors are to be com-mended for their efforts to maintainunity within the religious circle ofchurches in the area.
Op-Ed Reason for Suing Maries County
Monday, Anne and I sued ourown county. Here's why:
The fear of Covid 19 has re-sulted in unprecedented actions onall levels of government.
The federal government isspending trillions of dollars theydon't have.
State governments have declaredstates of emergency that give theirgovernors the sort of powers wecriticize 3rd world leaders for using-- we even send troops into thosecountries to effect "regimechange," and secure for those peo-ple "democracy."
And all over Missouri local gov-ernments are ignoring some of thebasic tenants of a republic -- theidea that the people are ultimatelyin control and that their representa-tives can only act in the the light ofday (sunshine) in meetings open tothe public where the People havean opportunity to exercise their 1stAmendment right to petition thegovernment.
All over Missouri, local govern-ments are ignoring Chapter 610 ofour state's revised statutes, the"Sunshine Law," and holding meet-ings closed to the public.
Such is the case with the MariesCounty Commission.
That would be bad enough undernormal circumstances, but duringthe Covid 19 scare these countycommissions and city councils arebeing courted by health departmentbureaucrats with tunnel vision. Allthe bureaucrats see is minimizingCovid 19 infections. They seem notto consider principles of liberty andeconomics and the Rule of Law.
The results are local officials, who are usually good people doing
a good job at what they wereelected to do, WAY outside theirwheelhouse. With the one-sidedurging of health department bu-reaucrats, they have been passingordinances and issuing orders thateven 6 months ago we would havethought was the work of banana re-public dictators.
Maries County is a small county. We are all neighbors, and it's a hardthing to sue your neighbors. Thefact is, though, Anne and I are notsuing our neighbors, we are suingpublic officials FOR THE BENE-FIT of our neighbors and our pos-terity.
We are suing because we think itis every generation's job to keep thespirit of the Declaration of Inde-pendence alive.
Our forefathers had this com-plaint about King George in the 4thGrievance of the Declaration:
"He has called together legisla-tive bodies at places unusual, un-comfortable, and distant from thedepository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguingthem into compliance with hismeasures."
It was the King's intent to thwartrepresentative governance. Ourforefathers thought that was impor-tant enough to go to war over.
Anne and I think it is importantenough to go to court over.
Keep an eye out, I think you willbe seeing a LOT of legal and polit-ical action to rein in officials whohave lost their way or failed in theirresponsibility to support the Con-stitution.
You can follow this case on theCaseNet website. The case number20MS-CC00027.
