Last Tuesday our Junior school celebrated the learning they have achieved through their STEAM project with a Learning Expo. Andrea Kinsey (STEAM Leader) and I were impressed with the level of engagement and enthusiasm as the children arculated their learning in teams. Working collaboravely each team had to design, construct and test a boat to meet specific design challenges. We were parcularly delighted to see the way Literacy was embedded throughout the project in their learning journals, their procedural wring and the research they had undertaken. It was wonderful to see so many families taking the opportunity to aend. Thank you to the staff and students across the school who also came to support their learning. We received some posive feedback that I am sure will connue to inspire our young children and their teachers to even greater heights. Welcome on a Wednesday ! From our Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Friends of Cheltenham Primary School,

What an engaging and productive fortnight at CPS! Last Tuesday our Junior school celebrated the learning they have achieved through their STEAM project with a Learning Expo. Andrea Kinsey (STEAM Leader) and I were impressed with the level of engagement and enthusiasm as the children articulated their learning in teams. Working collaboratively each team had to design, construct and test a boat to meet specific design challenges. We were particularly delighted to see the way Literacy was embedded throughout the project in their learning journals, their procedural writing and the research they had undertaken. It was wonderful to see so many families taking the opportunity to attend. Thank you to the staff and students across the school who also came to support their learning. We received some positive feedback that I am sure will continue to inspire our young children and their teachers to even greater heights.

Welcome on a Wednesday ! The core principle of our new instructional model at Cheltenham is to ‘Make a difference in the learning lives of our students’. We know a strong home school partnership contributes to this. In these busy times , it is not always possible for families to come into the school. In recognition of this, we are implementing a series of informal ‘Welcome on a Wednesday’ opportunities throughout the year. During ‘Welcome Wednesday’ the school will be open earlier so that you can come in prior to your commitments, to share in the diversity of your child’s learning. This week our amazing school band was on view. Next time, it may be an opportunity to bring your favourite book for some community reading! In conclusion, just a reminder if you have a child starting school in Foundation next year, please contact the office for an enrolment form. Kind Regards,

Bronwyn

Library News

This past Wednesday the Junior School participated in the 18

th annual National Simultaneous Storytime in the

BER. A lovely time was had by all as we shared the reading of Hickory Dickory Dash by Tony Wilson with many other Australians at 11am. Hickory Dickory Dash is a lively story which brings language to life through word play on a familiar rhyme.

Book Club

Book Club notices go home this week. Please submit your orders online before the 6

th of June.

Hello everyone!

All the children are going great guns with completing their reading challenge. Congratulations to Dakota B 1C, Saoirse W 1C and Sam R 1B, for completing the Premier's Reading Challenge. Great reading, kids!

Remember that children from Foundation-Gr 2 need to read 30 books (10 of their own choice) and Gr 4 - Gr 6 need to read 15 books (5 of their own choice). The PRC booklists can be found at: http://www.education.vic.gov.au/about/events/prc/Pages/booklist.aspx.

If you have any questions about the PRC, please contact me via email: [email protected].

You Can Do It

Resilience is the You Can Do It Foundation for this term.

Being resilient means keeping positive and not thinking badly of

yourself if you make a mistake. It means trying not to worry and

believing in yourself. It means thinking you are more likely to

succeed than fail. When you are resilient you are able to calm

down quickly when you are upset, angry or worried. If you are

resilient you can bounce back and get on with your work or play no

matter what has happened.

These students have won YCDI awards in weeks 6 & 7.

As part of the Resilience Project at Cheltenham Primary we are learning how to be Grateful, Empathetic and Mindful (GEM). Research has shown this will benefit our mental state. Awards have been given to those who demonstrate the GEM attributes and a positive growth mindset.

The School and SRC Captains designed this certificate based on images from our 3-6 students.

These students are the winners of GEM awards for Term 2 - Weeks 3, 4, 5 & 6
