From Our Pastor
Very seldom do I ever use articles over. I try to keep things as fresh as possible, however, as I
was going through my notes I ran across this article that I wrote in May of 2016. Exactly one year ago.
It is good sometimes to reiterate things from the past to bring them back to the forefront of your think-
ing. We are closer than we have ever been and most of the prep work has been done. We are about to
bring the building project to a church vote. Isn’t that exciting? It might not seem like it, but a lot has
happened in these last 12 months. Some major accomplishments have come just in the last 2 days.
“Let us rise up and build.” From the very beginning these words have been the driving force in
my heart to see this project through. These words came from a group of people that were committed to
a cause. They are found in the book of Nehemiah in chapter 2. They were confronted with a real dilem-
ma because they were facing a need that was bigger than they could meet themselves. Their only hope
was found in trusting God. Mind you, they did not just sit back and think God was going to drop a wall
out of the sky. They knew that they must be willing to do their part as they trusted God with the results.
What a blessing that God has led the people of Hollywood Baptist into a building program. We
too are faced with demands that are far beyond our ability to meet. What a golden opportunity to see
God do something supernatural in our midst. I believe that we are on the brink of seeing some of the
greatest victories this church has ever seen. It will take a collective effort to see this project through but
I have great confidence in the God that we serve and the members of Hollywood Baptist. He has al-
ready blessed us far beyond our comprehension and He is not finished yet.
As I think about some of the great benefits to having a new facility I wanted to share those
thoughts with you.
1. The project would be an opportunity for our church to pray and trust God to
raise up the resources to build this facility.
2. A multipurpose building will provide more opportunities for ministry here in the
area. It will provide the much needed space for our Sunday School ministry and
other annual events.
3. It says to our community that we are moving forward and we are willing to invest
in the future.
4. When a church is in need of larger facilities it indicates that something
is happening here. The true verification that God’s blessing is on a ministry is
Found in the changed lives that are being produced. Anyone can build buildings
But only God can change a life but as lives are changed then there is the demand
for bigger facilities.
5. It provides our church an opportunity to walk in unity and oneness as we see this
project through to its completion.
6. God forbid, but this facility could provide shelter in the event of something
catastrophic.
Each person has to ask God what his or her part will be in making this building a reality. There
were so many people that committed themselves to following the Lord’s leadership in seeing those
walls restored in Nehemiah’s day. There were times when they worked with a trowel in one hand and a
sword in the other but they stayed steady on course. There will be obstacles but it is the obstacles that
make the victory that much sweeter. “When the enemy blasts, God builds.”
Nehemiah 6:15-16 says, “So the wall was finished……. this work was wrought of our God.”

The Mission of the Manger
Get ready, folks! Vacation Bible School is coming to Hollywood! This year our theme is
Maker’s Fun Factory. We’ll be kicking VBS off on June 21 and running
through June 25. Expect all kinds of wonderful activities as we teach our
little ones that they were created by God, and that He has a plan and a
purpose for them. Don’t think that the 12 and under group gets to have all
the fun though, we’ll be having classes for our Youth and Adults as well!
As always, we can’t make this happen without you, so if you are willing to
volunteer please get in touch with Cheryl Waller. Keep an eye on your bulletins, because we’ll
be hosting our first volunteers meeting in shortly!
Daughters of Hope Luncheon
On Saturday, May 20 at 11:30 am we are having our annual luncheon for all ladies.
This year you will have the opportunity to hear the powerful testimony
of
Mrs. Elizabeth Carter and her daughter,
Alicia Austin of Fredericksburg, Va.
“Mama Carter”, is a passionate woman that exudes the love of Christ.
You will not want to miss this big event. Invite a friend and
sign-up to attend. There is also a sign-up sheet for desserts on the on the board
across from Luis’s office.
Last day to sign-up will be May 12.
Connect Groups
There will be 3 “Connect Groups” meetings beginning on Sunday night April 30. 45 - Younger meet at 5:30 pm at the pavilion.
45 - Older 6:00 pm at Karle and Wendy Byrd’s house and 70 - older will meet at church 6:00 pm. The “Connect Groups” are to
help provide opportunities for fellowship, spiritual growth and getting to know one another.
Thank you all so much for the kindness showed to us
during our loss. The food, visits, cards, and most of
all the prayers.
The phrase is simple and the words are few, but
behind them is a whole lot of appreciation.
Love in Christ, Linda & Dickie Barbour
Dear Pastor St. John and Congregation:
We want to thank you for inviting us to come and worship at your church. The glory of God was evident
as we shared our music with you all. We want to also thank you for the donation you gave to our group.
Your donation will make it possible for us to continue our music ministry to glorify God.
Thank you again for inviting us to come and shore the love of Christ through song. We are truly blessed
to be able to go out and witness in this manner and have such loving congregations that are willing to
allow us to come and worship with them. We hope we will be able to come back to Hollywood in the
near future.

Dear Pastor Terry,
I enjoy receiving the monthly church newsletter.
I am thankful for the years I was a part of
Hollywood Baptist. The newsletter keeps me
informed of the good people I grew up with.
Blessings, Pamela Shields
Missions Update Our congregation will be participating in Baby Bottle Boomerang to benefit the ministry of Transitions
Pregnancy Solutions (formerly known as Little Life). Transitions Pregnancy Solutions exists to share the
gospel of Jesus Christ and uphold the sanctity of human life through crisis pregnancy assistance, sexual
purity education, and post-abortion restoration. Transitions Pregnancy Solution has seen an increase of 30%
in services needed, but has not seen an increase in funds. Proceeds from
Baby Bottle Boomerang are used to fund the ministry's program.
At the end of our service on May 7, 2016, we will be distributing baby
bottles and asking you to take one bottle per family. We are asking that
you take the bottles home, fill them with checks, cash, and coins and
return them to the church on Sunday, June 18, 2016. Please direct any
questions to Linette Nuckols.

Ponder the Psalms Bible Reading Challenge for the month of May
The Sunday School Department challenges YOU to take time during May to “Ponder the Psalms.” To say we live in a fast-
paced society is an understatement! Through social media, we have information flashed at us on Face Book, Instagram, Snap
Chat, News Feeds, and television. We are constantly told what to think and how to feel or . Our minds are racing, BUT
WHAT ARE WE REALLY THINKING? WHAT ARE WE STORING IN OUR HEARTS? The Bible tells us…
“A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the
treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.” Luke 6: 45
“And now, dear brothers & sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and
lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Phillipians 4: 8
LET’S STOP THE MINDLESSNESS and be MINDFUL this May as we read, ponder and pray through the Psalms. See how
many you can read through this month and mark on the chart below. There will be PRIZES for those who read the most and
all will be blessed by spending time with God!
(Turn your chart in at the end of the month to the Sunday School Office)
