From KEP to PEI Branch Jayapura

On Saturday, 27th May 2006, a group of young entomologists* established KelompokEntomologi Papua (KEP – Entomological workgroup Papua). On the 8th anniversary,on Tuesday 27 May 2014, all local entomologists and those who support the groupwere invited for a three hours meeting at APO, the home of Henk van Mastrigt,and the Koleksi Serangga Papua (KSP – Collection of Papuan Insects) and library.

At this meeting twenty-three young people were present (see fig. 1 with namesbeneath). In order to ensure the future of the group and to cooperate withPerhimpunan Entomologi Indonesia (PEI – Entomological Society Indonesia), itwas unanimously decided that all become member of PEI Branch Jayapura,replacing KEP For the time to come APO will remain the home of the collection,library and activities, but in the future it will move to Universitas Cenderewasih,FMIPA, at Waena. This decision is supported and agreed by Dirk Y.P. Runtuboi,Chairman Dept Biology FMIPA UNCEN.

The meeting proposed the following board for 2014-2017:

Chairman: Henricus J. G. (Henk) van Mastrigt; Secretary: Evie Lilly Warikar, M.Sc.; Treasurer:Euniche R. P. F. (Ika) Ramandey, M.Sc.; Member: Beatrix (Bea) Wanma, M.Si.

Based on Statutes and Internal Regulations of PEI, Branch Jayapura will developactivities focused to Papua (the Indonesian provinces of Papua Barat and Papua,or the western part of New Guinea and its surrounding islands), with specialattention to the following activities:

1. Cooperation and assistance to Papuan universities, covering research withstudents, guidance with field work and final papers; and assisting teachers insecondary schools with programs on Papuan entomology (section research).

2. Publications with special attention to SUara serangGA PApua (SUGAPA- Voice ofPapuan Insects); this section on publication will continue to use the name KEP).

3. Responsibility for the Koleksi Serangga Papua (K.S.P.) in Jayapura, maintain andexpand data of Papuan insects and maintain the library to which access will begiven to all members of PEI Branch Jayapura (section library).

Personnel for the above mentioned sections - and for other sections if needed –will be appointed later.

To achieve the aims mentioned above, PEI Branch Jayapura will welcome specialistsfrom other parts of Indonesia, continue the relationship with the Papua InsectsFoundation and cooperate with and welcome foreign entomologists. In this way,the knowledge of members of PEI Branch Jayapura, teachers and students in Papuawill be enhanced.

The frequency of meetings PEI Branch Jayapura will be four times a year.

The attached letter 266/PP-PEI/VI/2014 from Prof. Ir. Y. Andi Trisyono, M.Sc, Ph.Dconfirms the establishment of PEI Branch Jayapura with the board membersmentioned above.

Guidelines for authors

Suara Serangga Papua (SUGAPA) consists of publications concerning insects inPapua, Indonesia or related to this area (e.g. about Papua New Guinea). All articlesare in the English language with a short English abstract and a more comprehensiveIndonesian one, and if requested with a short abstract in the language of theauthor. Results of surveys by students from the universities in Papua will be acceptedin the Indonesian language, with a comprehensive English abstract. However, theIndonesian articles will cover one fourth of the content (8 of 32 pages) or less.

The authors are requested to attune the manuscript to recent number of SUGAPA,with special attention to the following:

• Send the printed text, including figures, by post and the plain text with figuresin separate files by email to the Board of Editors.

• Figures (photographs, drawings, maps) can be sent by CD or by email (however,not more than 3 Mb per email, not more than two emails at the same time/day),to avoid problems with receiving.

• Mention all author names with full address, and email-address.• Mention at most five key words, but no words from the title.• Scientific names of insects must be completed with author and year, but only at

the first time the name is used in the main part.• Mention males as ‘m’ and females as ‘f’, to avoid problems by sending and

conversion.• The references must be complete as shown in the following examples:
