PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Staff Condolences We would like to extend our condolences to two members of staff who both lost their fathers within a day of each other last week. Our thoughts are with both Linda Robertson and Janelle Doyle at this sad time. Meet the Parent Evening Thank you to everyone who took the time last week to come and meet with your child’s teacher. Our ‘Meet the Teacher’ eve- nings are very important for us to be able to meet with you and discuss your children. These meetings often give us valuable in- sight into each child and their particular situ- ations. Don’t forget that we have an open door policy and our teachers are always willing to discuss any issues with you. All we ask is that you respect teacher’s preparation time in the mornings and make an appoint- ment at a suitable time. Student Leadership Program Last week our student leaders in year 6 were announced. I would like to congratu- late all of our year 6 Student Leaders for a wonderful start this year. The program intro- duces our students to many varied roles and responsibilities and so far our wonderful students have carried out these roles very well. The positions include School Captains, SRC Captains, Pets Captains and Pets team, Sports captains, House Captains, Library Captains and the Library team, ICT Captains and Positions of Responsibility. Through the program our students learn the importance of carrying out their specific du- ties and responsibilities in order to ensure the smooth running of the school. Our School Captains, Luisa and Alex had their first turns at conducting our Monday morn- ing assemblies and have done a terrific job so far. I wish them and all of our student leaders all the best for the remainder of the year. I know that each leader will strive to do the best they can. The badges have been ordered and our Presentation Assembly will take place on the 29 th February with our special guest. Friday 19th February 2016 Don’t cope alone! Student Payments 2016 Together with this newsletter is a calendar which outlines many of the costs for activities during the year. This way each parent will have ample warning of upcoming events that will require payment and will be able to plan for these well in advance. Obviously our Swimming Program and School Camping Program are the two most expen- sive activities that we conduct. Our swimming program is conducted in all grades prep to year 6 (with the Year 5 and 6 students partici- pating in Life Saving / Safety / Swimming at the Frankston Life Saving Club) Year 3/4 swimming is next month while the Prep – 2 and the 5/6 swimming programs are in No- vember / December. We are hoping that by publishing this calendar early in the year and giving you early notice that all of our students will be able to participate in these events. Our Essential Educational Items Levy of $130 (School Fees) is now due. We have kept this fee to a minimum once again, but would like each family to have this paid as soon as possible this term. Please contact the office if you are having difficulty covering this fee and we will arrange a payment plan to suit. Student Attendance If your child is away from school you must send a written note to school when they re- turn, to explain the absence. To make this easier for you we now have a link at the bot- tom of our website homepage to an absence note that can be submitted online. It is important that your child attends school every day unless they are ill. Athletics Carnival On Monday we will have our House Athletics Carnival. The students will be involved in a tabloid carnival where they will rotate through various activities in their age group. These activities will be used as trial events to select a school team for the district athletics in April. Have a great weekend everyone. FRANKSTON PRIMARY SCHOOL’S ROTARY CLUB RAFFLE TICKET FUNDRAISER

Along with today’s newsletter we have sent home a Rotary Club Request form as part of our school’s fundraising events. Frankston North Rotary have provided us with the books to sell and the prizes are amazing.

1st Prize A Dream Holiday value $15000

2nd Prize Weekend Away value $3000

3rd Prize PrePaid Australia Post Debit Card value $1000

4th Prize Electrical Goods value $1000

For every $2:00 ticket sold the school will receive $1:50 which is fabulous. It really is great money back for no outlay at all and a simple exchange between family, friends, close neighbours or work colleagues.

Remember there is a lucky draw prize and every family will be entered each time they sell one complete book of raffle tickets. The more books you sell the more times we will enter you in the draw.

We have 200 books of ten tickets available to sell and we hope to sell them all this year WITHOUT losing any, so be sure to keep them in a safe place.

If you are able to assist us please complete the ticket request form and return it to school with your child as soon as possible and we will organise to send home your raffle books. Let’s work together to reach this year’s target and reward our kids with some more wonderful sporting equipment to use outside during recess and lunch play.

Even our staff are helping to sell tickets as they too wish to help reach our fundraising target.

HEAD LICE We seem to have a number of students presenting with head lice. We are asking all parents to please help us by checking your child’s hair regularly and treating their hair when eggs and

live lice are detected.

As you can imagine our students are in close proximity to one another throughout the day in the classroom and when playing outside which enables live lice to travel. As it is Friday it would be a great opportunity for you to double check your child’s hair and treat if necessary. Remember keeping children’s hair tied up is a good measure to avoid unwanted pests. The school will make contact with parents if their child is detected at school with live head lice. They will need to have their hair treated before they are able to return to school.

MESSAGE FROM OUR SPORTS TEACHER Grade 3 – 6 School Athletics Carnival

ing fun participating in a few Novelty events. We welcome

the community to this event and thank you for supporting

the school. Events will be run at Beauty Park and the school.

The weather is looking great so we look forward to seeing

you there.

special assembly to present ribbons, announce the winning

house and the team selected for District Athletics in Term 2.

MESSAGE FROM OUR CULTURAL STUDIES TEACHER

Next week Frankston Primary School students will

begin a Spanish and Colombian Cultural Studies

experience. Children will take part in four work-

shops to learn about the ‘Carnaval de Barranquilla’,

an important Colombian festival. Students will

make masks and costumes and learn songs and

dances so that we can create our own ‘Carnaval de

Baranquilla’ here at school at the end of term for

Harmony Week.

Parents will be invited to come and watch the final

parade. Students and families are also invited to

join in the Ventanna Fiesta in Frankston on

Saturday 12th March where we will again perform

our ‘Carnaval de Baranquilla’ as part of the Fiesta.

What a great experience for our students we hope you can join in.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES There are still a large number of our students who have not yet purchased the required school supplies for this year. Could you please ensure that your child has all the necessary items from their school book list. If you are having difficulty with this please make contact with the school office to discuss the matter.
