• Not a lot of physical growth occurs during this life stage .- unless people gain and lose weight.

• This is the peak time for us to reach are full maximum performance (this is when athletes tend to be at their best 19-30 years.)

• A lot of people choose this life stage to start a family.• At the end of this life stage (30-45) our physical capabilities slowly decline

and the fatty tissue in our body increases. It can also start to take us longer to recover from illness and injuries.

• Some people also start to lose hair or experience greying as well as skin losing its natural elasticity.

Emotional Development…

Emotional development is fairly complicated in early adulthood

In the early stages, some choose to find a life long partner, settle and have children. However everyone has different experiences of early adulthood

and will go through different things.

Others are happy without a partner and choose not to have children.

Adult are expected to be emotionally mature with a developed sense of moral awareness (right and wrong)

Later on: some may face divorce, increasing work pressures, financial worries, parenthood and the loss of elderly parents, which can have

an effect on emotional development.

Physical Changes in Middle adulthood Martha- Case study

Martha is 52 years of age, and works part time in a care home for the elderly. She had been married for 27 years and has 2 sons; James 25 and Harry 22. James is in the process of leaving home as he is buying a house with his girlfriend. Harry is taking a year out to go travelling with his friends after university. Martha is terribly worried about both of her sons and wonders how she will cope with the house being so quiet. Martha has also started going through the Menopause which has affected her both physically and emotionally and often she cannot sleep. Martha’s husband is very supportive but often works long hours in the week and on weekends. Martha feels like she is not coping currently and doesn’t know who to talk to about it, especially as she has been gaining weight recently which she is unhappy about. Martha has a group for friends from her first time mums group who she still speaks to every fortnight when they meet for lunch.

that explains how being an adult is harder than being a teenager.

You must cover Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Social differences.
