The focus is on the versatile film production of the world‘s largest film industry. During the programme selection pro- cess, we place special emphasis on the diversity of langua- ges, traditions and regional differences. As part of the 16th Indian Film Festival Stuttgart, we are in- troducing a new programme series called ,Making of Indian Cinema‘. The programme series targets professional and industry audiences by providing a look behind the scenes of Indian cinema. Every year, the programme will present a different area of film production. This year, we address the visual style of Indian cinema and the history of its cinematography. The art of creating iconic images will be discussed, as well as the visual portrayal of character traits. Additionally, the event focuses on the wor- king conditions of Indian directors of photography (DoPs), especially women, and the cooperation possibilities bet- ween Indian and German filmmakers. With this new programme series we want to strengthen the awareness for the art of Indian film, offer a networking platform for filmmakers and consequently improve the connections between the film industries in India and Ger- many. The Indian Film Festival Stuttgart attracts many enthusia-stic fans to the capitol of Baden-Württemberg every year. As part of the 16th Indian Film Festival Stuttgart, we are in-troducing a new programme series called ,Making of Indian Cinema‘. PARAMVIR SINGHDIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY

As a child Paramvir Singh spent entire summer holidays amongst comic books which inspired him to make his own comic books and super heroes. In 1996, his creative and vi-sual arts skills landed him a job in advertising.

But the lure of the moving image made him take a break from work in 2002 to study Cinema at the Film and Televi-sion Institute of India. His greatly experimental Cinemato-graphy on his diploma film ‚Parsiwada Tarapore, Present Day‘ won him the President Of India‘s National Award for Best Cinematography in 2005.

Thereafter Paramvir went on to shoot the indie film ‚Hulla‘, which is often listed as one of the greatest and underrated movies in Bollywood. He also shot many TV commercials, short films, music videos and documentaries, co-founding one of India’s top TV Commercial Production Company in 2010.

Pooja Gupte is a graduate with Photography as speciali-sation in Commercial Art from Pune, India. She studied cinematography at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television In-stitute, India. Her love for cinematography stems from her lifelong fascination with visuals.

Pooja was always a visual learner and a go-getter. By the age of 16, she had made up her mind to pursue cinemato-graphy as a career and had worked her way through to get into the premier institute in India.

Her first feature film as DoP ,Crossing Bridges‘ – which she also produced – won the National President’s award in 2014. Pooja was selected as an Indian cinematographer in Berlinale Talent Campus 2012, Germany. She was awarded Best Cinematography for feature film ,Rukh‘ in 5th AIFF 2018. She also has a flair for teaching cinematography and has been affiliated with a college as a guest lecturer.

SUDEEP CHATTERJEEDIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Sudeep Chatterjee grew up in the quaint suburban neigh-bourhood of Kolkata where his world comprised of grand-mother’s tales, Bengali novels and Theatre and Film club screenings. He loved taking pictures and soon realised that that was the language he wanted to speak in.

He was trained at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune and is largely known for his diverse range of films, ranging from ,Bajirao Mastani’ to the blockbuster action caper ,Dhoom:3’ to indie films like ,Dor’, ,Iqbal’ and ,Cho-tushkone’.

He has been awarded the prestigious National Award two times apart from the numerous awards for his work on va-rious films. Sudeep loves teaching and is associated with various film schools where he conducts workshops on ci-nematography.

SHANTI BHUSHAN ROYDIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY

A former software engineer, Shanti Bhushan Roy is an alumnus of Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He has more than a decade of experience in film, television, documentary and digital audiovisual medium.

His film credits include many fiction feature films, such as ,Shuttlecock Boys‘, which was voted as Best Independent Film in 2012. He has also worked on dozens of documenta-rie films for a number of international foundations like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Godrej Foundation and UNDP.

He is amongst very few filmmakers in India to be exploring various digital technological evolutions like Virtual Reality, 3D-360 and Augmented Reality. Academically, he has been teaching students since 2011 at various government and private institutions such as the Digital Film Academy in Mumbai.
