I value our son’s placement at school as he is now eager to go to school and actually
enjoys it, which is a great feeling for me.

With the warmer weather upon us ticks have started to wake up.
Please be tick aware - especially as half term is here!
Ticks are tiny spider-like creatures found in moist areas of
dense vegetation or long grass in woodland, grassland,
moorland, heathland and some urban parks and gardens. They
can be found throughout the year, but are most active between
spring and autumn. Some ticks carry the bacteria responsible
for Lyme disease, an infection that can spread to humans if
bitten by infected ticks.
It is possible to reduce the risk of tick bites by following some
simple advice:
When possible, stick to footpaths and avoid long grass when walking or cycling
Wear long sleeved shirts and trousers tucked into your socks when near tick-infested areas
Wearing light-coloured fabrics that may help you spot a tick on your clothes
Use insect repellent on any exposed skin Check your skin and clothes for ticks at the end of the day,
removing any you find as soon as possible Regularly check your pets for ticks
If Lyme disease is left untreated, you could develop severe
symptoms. Lyme disease is treatable if caught early, so it’s
important to know the symptoms and look out for them..

A huge well done to Paige in Year 7 who had her
long hair cut off for The Little Princess Trust.
The Trust is a UK charity that provides real hair
wigs, free of charge, to children and young people,
up to the age of 24, who have lost their hair as a
result of cancer treatment or other illnesses.
Paige raised an amazing £288 for the charity.
An amazing act of generosity, Paige, and we love
your new hairstyle!

Peter and his parents went to look at the
butterflies in the woods over the weekend
and one was friendly enough to come
and sit on his shoulder!
They sent in some beautiful photos of
other butterflies they saw and were kind
enough to name them for us.
We love to see photos of what our pupils
and students do outside of school time.
Please feel free to share them with us. Red Admiral (on Peter's shoulder)

Our first pupils arrived on January 13th 1930 and the school opened its doors on January 30th. Named
after St Dominic Savio, it was known as 'St Dominic's Open Air School for Boys’ until 1945.
The pupil population came mainly from poor inner city homes where poor conditions and the lack of nourishment showed their effect in the delicate health of the children. Chest diseases were common, especially asthma, and a general ‘failure to thrive’ was evident. The clean air, nourishing food and caring surroundings transformed many of these children in a short time.
Hello everybody at St Dominic’s ……………….
First of all I want to say thank you for the lovely birthday card which arrived this week, it was so kind of
you and I really like it, it will go into my box of special treasures when my Hoooman takes it down! I
have a great box of special treasures, it is full of my certificates and rosettes I have won at Working tests
and in Dog Races at the Polo!
Both Rigby and me went to training last
Friday, and we are going again today, it was
so much fun to see all our friends, and we
were really pleased to see Orick, who is
another Golden Retriever, who we did not
know was coming. We did retrieves from the
water, that was lots of fun as it was quite
warm! Then we did double retrieves, blind
retrieves and a slow walkup – it was good to
be back with all our friends. Carole, our lovely
trainer, said we all did very well. Here is a
picture of us waiting to do some of the
exercises. At the back is Flynn, he is a lovely
crazy Labrador, then Ollie, a Flatcoat
Retriever, then Orick, then the pale Golden Retriever is Jazz, who belongs to our trainer, then it is me
and Rigby! We were being soooooo good!
This is a better photo of Flynn and Ollie, with
their Hooomans Anne and Marion, we love
them!
We hope you will all have a great weekend,
and are staying safe and well, as well as
working hard! I will write to you again next
week.
With happy wags and love from our
Hoooman as well
Hemmick, Rigby and Alison
