KINDY CLASS REPORT

Welcome back to term 3! We have had an amazing start to the term. We have had a first aid person come and teach us about emergencies and the number we need to call when we need help: 000. We had our new Interactive Whiteboard installed and the Kindy’s have had so much fun using it. Ms Ballam is back next week. Ms Mathwin has really enjoyed working with your children and with you. Many thanks.

PRE PRIMARY CLASS REPORT

Welcome back to Term Three, it is a very busy and exciting time for Pre Primary. The children have had a wonderful start to the term and they have come back to school eager to learn. Pre Primary has been abuzz over the last fortnight with students participating in an array of interesting learning activities, we participated in a St John’s Ambulance incursion and celebrated 100 Days of School with a variety of special activities, such as, making ‘100’ glasses to wear, counting 100 stickers and writing about what we would like to do before we reach 100 years old, ending the day with popcorn and a movie. On Monday the children participated in a Waste Wise audit of the school and the amount of waste produced certainly was an eye opener for the students and teachers. Every Wednesday we will be participating in Waste Free Wednesday. Over the term the children will continue to develop their oral language and phonological awareness, writing and reading skills. The children will have ample opportunities to explore sounds through writing. Their writing will be purposeful and enjoyable. Each time the children write, their work will be conferenced and they will be encouraged to read their writing. Lastly a reminder that school starts at 8.40am daily. Children are required to be present for the start of the day as it sets the precedent for the remainder of the day.

YEAR 1 CLASS REPORT

Welcome back from holidays. They children have settled easily back into school routines. This two week back at school has been busy…… The Year One children have all been placed in a Sports Faction colour (red or yellow) for Sports Day this term. See your child’s name on the door of the classroom if you are unsure. The children have already been introduced to the team games of tunnel ball and bean bag relay. The children will increase their skills and knowledge of the rules in these games and go on to learn many more. The class celebrated 100 days of school on Tuesday 25th July. We counted by 10’s using beans, rice, popsticks and matchsticks all to well over 100. We did counting games and activities. Phew…maths was such fun! The Year One class is studying Aboriginal authors and illustrations as part of History and Geography and Literature studies. The children have also been studying art styles of paintings and illustrations and trying to paint/draw in similar styles. PLEASE NOTE-timetable change Library will be changed to Wednesday from next week. Bring books in on Wednesdays beginning 2nd of August.

YEAR 2 CLASS REPORT

Welcome back to all the Year 2 students, we hope you had a fantastic holiday and are well rested for the very busy term ahead. This term we have started reading George’s Marvellous Medicine during reading and have been very surprised at what ingredients George put into the medicine to give his Grandma. We have also been predicting what might happen to Grandma after she takes the medicine and we’ve been creating our own list of ingredients that we would use if we were to make our own Marvellous Medicine! We have started biological science this term and are studying the unit of Growth and Change. During our first lesson we discussed how humans change over time and then watched a clip on the life cycle of a meal worm which we found very interesting. Finally, it was the one hundredth day of school on Tuesday and we had a great time celebrating! Not

only did we make “100” glasses to wear throughout the day, we got to see what 100 looks like with 100 balloons in the class and created mathematical equations using 100 Smarties. We also used our Smarties to make a picture, but the best part of all was gobbling up our Smarties after we had finished the lesson. Yum!

YEAR 3 CLASS REPORT

The term has started off well for the Year 3s and everyone has come back to school refreshed (including Miss Scott). We were lucky to go to the First Aid Focus incursion from St John Ambulance to teach us all about what to do in an emergency. We will now know what to do if we come across an unconscious person. It is very important to know your home address and home phone number in case of an emergency so Miss Scott has asked everyone to learn these details. We have started Biological Sciences this term and are studying the unit of Feathers, Furs and Leaves. We have already discussed what makes something living and have started grouping bugs and mini-beasts in different ways. In English we have been learning about synonyms and antonyms and sequences of stories. In maths we

have been practising written ways to work out addition and subtraction. We also celebrated our one hundredth day of school by using counters and pictures to investigate how many numbers 100 can be divided by. We are looking forward to another busy term!

YEAR 4 CLASS REPORT

The Year 4s have settled back into the term after two fantastic weeks of holidays. We are continuing to work on times tables, fractions and decimals in maths. Our new science topic is Biological Science which is all about what plants need to survive, the role of a flowering plant, pollination and seed dispersal. We all enjoyed the First Aid Focus incursion from the St John Ambulance and will know what to do if we ever come across an unconscious person. Our goal for Term 3 is to have parent signatures on 49 entries or books for home reading. It is so important your child reads aloud regularly to help develop fluency and comprehension of what’s been read.

YEAR 5/6 CLASS REPORT

It feels very good to be back at school even though we did enjoy the holidays! It’s great to see our friends back.

The Year 5 and 6s have been learning about the Western Australian Gold Rush and the history of the Swan River Colony in those days, in our HASS studies. We have also learned about the convict days and even had a visit from a “convict.” He come into our classroom and told us everything about convict life! His name was Hamish and he told us about the ‘ticket of leave’ and how some convicts worked chopping jarrah trees in Kings Park, back in the olden days. In Science, we have been learning about “micro-organisms” and examined different types of them under a microscope. They were bacteria, fungi and viruses. We also looked at various insects’ organs with the microscope. School’s 100th day! We celebrated the 100 days of school on Tuesday, 25th of July. We made some delicious “Hundreds and Thousands” biscuits and played dice games up to one hundred in maths. We are looking forward to a great term ahead. Written by Maniha, Year 6
