SCHOOL FUND
We want to continue to grow and improve our school to make it even better.
To do this we need you to contribute to our School Building Fund, as we are obliged to contribute 10% of any building improvement costs from our own resources.
You will shortly receive a letter asking you to make a small donation of: 1 child: £10 per child per term or; 2 or more children: £20 per family per term. Payments may be submitted by either cash or cheque made payable to Christ the King Primary School. If you wish to do so you may pay either for the whole year or each term.
Romy Hoster HEAD OF SCHOOL
ATTENDANCE
Please note that we are unable to authorise holidays during term time.
The government has changed its regulations and can issue you with a Penalty
Notice fine should you take your child out of school without permission.
Schools are held accountable for attendance figures and have to show the steps
we have taken to ensure that children are in school on time every day.
Requests for time off school must be made in writing to Mrs Lane,
who is only able to authorise if there are exceptional circumstances
and evidence for the request.
The following reasons are not accepted as grounds
for your child to miss school or arrive late:
Shopping
Accompanying a family member to an appointment (within school hours)
Bad weather
Birthdays
Going to/coming from the airport
Waking up late
Traffic
Having a cold
Being tired
Keeping your child off all day for a morning or afternoon medical appointment.
Congratulations to all those children who are regularly
achieving good attendance and punctuality.
Thanks to the systems and procedures in place in school and the support of our
families, we have made a vast improvement to our whole school attendance
so far this academic year.
Every day for every child counts so please keep up the good work!!
ADVENT ATTENDANCE CHALLENGE
From Monday 28th November, there will be 15 school days
until the end of term.
We are setting every child a challenge to have 100% attendance during that time.
Children who are successful will be entered into a raffle on the last day of term to win some fantastic prizes.
A Poem By Mark in Year 6
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry like an old man’s wrinkly
hand?
Fly away like a butterfly in sorrow?
Is it like me being left at the bus stop which is empty?
Or is it a man who is about to give
up and sob in agony as he says his
prayers?
Maybe it just sags like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
ARSENAL TICKETS
Every year our YEAR 6 children have the wonderful opportunity of going on a residential school trip.
We are fundraising to help our Year 6 have an amazing school journey! They will be going to Adventure Central in Minehead in Somerset and although parents are contributing
towards the trip, we would like to be able to pay for some extra treats for them.
As part of our exciting programme of fundraising events, we have 2 Arsenal tickets to raffle – they are for the Arsenal v Crystal Palace game which
will take place at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday 31 December 2016.
Tickets are £1 each or £4 for 5 and will be on sale from the school office from Monday 14th November. The draw for the winner will take place on Wednesday 14th December during our school Christmas lunch.
The winner will be notified by text message, so please make sure we have an up to date mobile phone number for you. Good luck everyone!
Breakfast – why bother?
Breakfast equals better behaviour
Children who skip breakfast are more tired, irritable, or restless by late morning.
These symptoms lead to difficult behaviour that causes children to get in trouble in school.
Children who regularly eat a morning meal have more energy, are less likely to get into trouble,
and have a better attitude towards school.
Brain Food for Children - Breakfast leads to higher test scores
It's important for children to have a healthy breakfast every day, but what they eat in the
morning is crucial too. Choosing breakfast foods that are rich in whole grains, fibre, and
protein while low in added sugar will boost their attention span, concentration, and
memory — which they need to learn in school. Children who eat breakfast are more likely
to get fiber, calcium, and other important nutrients. They also tend to keep their weight
under control, have lower blood cholesterol levels and fewer absences from school,
and make fewer complaints about stomach aches which can be related to hunger.
A study published in 1998 in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine showed significantly higher maths
test scores after children ate breakfast. This and other research has clearly shown that children who consistently
eat breakfast test higher in most academic areas.
Please try to make sure that your child eats a healthy breakfast
before they come to school each morning.
Breakfast Club
For children attending BREAKFAST CLUB only.
The breakfast club introduced hot food from the week
commencing 21st November 2016.
The options offered to children are:
Porridge
Beans
Bacon
Sausage
Scrambled Eggs
All served with our Magic Bagels – the
Breakfast Club fees will remain the same.
Bagel Bar—FOR ALL CHILDREN
We know that having a breakfast is really important.
It helps children with their learning – so we have introduced a
Bagel Bar in school! This will ensure that our children can
have something to eat before they start their lessons.
The bagels cost 20p each and are available in the school hall.
Attendance (week beginning 14th November 2016)
Our School Education Welfare Officer was in school this week and looked at whole
