What is bullying?

Bullying is the repeated action by those in power over another individual with a wilful, conscious desire to hurt, threaten or frighten someone. It can be:Physical (hitting, pushing etc.), Social (excluding someone), Psychological (ignoring, funny looks, taunting etc.), or Verbal (name calling, spreading rumours). Other forms of bullying may include interference with personal property, written or Cyber Bullying on the internet.

Statistics• 38% of young people have been

affected by cyber-bullying.• 32,599 children called ChildLine in

2012/13 about bullying. 

• Almost half (46%) of children and young people say they have been bullied at school at some point in their lives.

• 18% of children and young people who worried about bullying said they would not talk to their parents about it.

• 44% of all suicides in the UK are as a result of bullying.

• 38% of young people have been affected by cyber-bullying, with abusive emails (26%) and text messages (24%) being the most common methods.

• 28% of these children did not tell anyone about the abuse.

gather evidence.• A meeting will take place and actions

agreed.• There may be a formal consequence.
