SIXTH FORM OPEN EVENING Prospective students for Rainhill Sixth Form Centre attended our Open Evening on
Thursday 1st November. It was an excellent turnout with 300 seats in the Arts Theatre
completely filled and overspilling into the corridor for the opening talk from Executive
Principal, Mr Pout and Director of Sixth Form, Mr Hemsley.
Students from Rainhill and other schools from the area heard all about how Rainhill
Sixth Form Centre offers a personalised approach with small class sizes and a
dedicated student team. The excellent exam results and outstanding enrichment
programmes were also emphasised.
After the talk, students and their parents were able to meet with both current Sixth
Form students and subject staff to discuss what the courses are like as well and finding
out about Sixth Form life. It was also an opportunity to see around the excellent
facilities we have for our students.
Students also got to speak to the Sixth Form leadership team, careers service and
universities with regard to progression after Sixth Form.
Student feedback scored the Open Evening positively, giving it 4.2/5 stars on average.
Some student feedback about what they found useful included these quotes;
“I could speak to the teachers and receive advice for my future.”
“Talking to students about the course and homework.”
“Looking at the subjects available as it gave me an insight of what it would be
like to learn here and enjoy what I’m learning at the same time.”
“In business studies being able to talk about the what past students have
achieved”
“It gave you an honest idea of the work load and the course.”
“ Leaflets as they were informative.”

SIXTH FORM TASTER DAY The day after Open Evening, students in Year 11 were given a chance to taste life in
the Sixth Form by selecting subjects to try during the day. This was alongside having
exclusive use of the facilities in Sixth Form. Some subjects proved incredibly popular
with over 160 wanting to taste Criminology!
The Year 11 students were very positive about their day and really got to see how
teachers interact differently with them in Sixth Form and how we have expectations
that students will work independently and be focussed in their pursuit of progression to
university, apprenticeships or work.
Student feedback scored the Taster Day positively, giving it 4.4/5 stars on average.
More student feedback included;
“I got to explore more options and experience the small class sizes”
“Getting to know about the lessons from the teachers”
“Being able to see what it’s like as a sixth form wearing own clothes leaving site
at dinner etc”
“New variety of lessons”
“getting to experience life in sixth form”
“Getting to know the teachers I would have”
“It was fun”
“I had the chance to really discuss my options which helped me decide more
of what i wanted to do and where i wanted to go”
“(The best thing was) how you were treated by teachers”

THIS WEEK’S YEAR ASSEMBLIES The theme for this weeks Assemblies are: Anti-Bullying week.
ANTI-BULLYING WEEK IN ENGLAND – ACTION AND STATISTICS What is Bullying?
“The repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another person or group, where
the relationship involves an imbalance of power. It can happen face to face or online”. A
more detailed definition is provided by the Department of Education in the ‘Preventing and
Tackling Bullying’(updated June 2017) document: “Bullying is behaviour by an individual or
group, repeated over time, that intentionally hurts another individual or group either physically
or emotionally.
Bullying UK reported the following statistics
81% of young people experience name calling.
50% were bullied because of appearance.
90% said that bullying happened at school.
68% said that bullying has had a huge impact on their self esteem.
40% young people have had suicidal thoughts because of bullying.
We are very proud of how our students conduct themselves and how they treat each other
with respect. It is also pleasing to know that our students know how to report and challenge
bullying if it is witnessed.
The table below shows statistics at Rainhill High School. In 2017/18, there were only 29 recorded
incidents of bullying in school. This shows that bullying at Rainhill High School is minimal. From
the incidents listed in the table, 59% of these involved boys and 41% involved girls.
Anti-Bullying Week
This week during Anti-Bullying week, we have raised awareness of the types of bullying, how
bullying makes people feel, signs to look for, how people react to bullying and how to get the
bullying to stop.
Year 7 will also take part in an Anti-Bullying Day on Wednesday 21st November 2018. Pupils will
spend the day focusing on the themes below:
Choose Respect
Bullying: The Facts
Cyber Bullying
Don't bully, be a friend
Choose Kindness
It is important that, we as a school, working together with parents and the local community,
raise awareness and encourage students to show respect to others to prevent any bullying.
Extensive work has been done and continues to be done with all of our students from all years
to highlight what bullying is and how to deal with this for themselves or a friend. If your child or
one of their friends are being bullied, please contact school to make us aware or use the
school website to send an alert to their Year Student Manager so that this can be dealt with as
quickly as possible.
