Kingdown Week Friday 1st December 2017 Number 11, 2017-18 Some of you may remember from last year Tegan Gibson’s exceptional charity event, where she swam an incredible 156 miles - 9984 lengths of the pool - to raise money in memory for her good friend Millie and Millie’s brother Jackson. Following that event, Tegan has continued with her exceptionally demanding training regimen and continues to compete for Warminster and District Amateur Swimming Club. This season she has competed in several galas and open meets and won 24 medals & 3 trophies. On the 11th November Tegan made her way up to Birmingham for the National Swimming Awards having been nominated by her sister for her outstanding commitment and dedication to her sport. Just the invitation to the event was an incredible achievement for Tegan where she would get to meet some of her idols and fellow swimmers (although she was a little disappointed that Adam Peaty wasn’t there to collect his award in person as he'd left the Country for training!) . There were more than a few famous names there, including Leon Taylor, Ellie Faulkner and Ollie Hynd to celebrate with Tegan and the other award winners. I am exceptionally pleased and proud to say that Tegan returned to Warminster on Saturday night having won Swim England National Awards Youth Participant award. She returned with her trophy, teddy, lots of photos and some incredible memories! Tegan is delighted with her award: 'l'm over the moon with knowing that I've done Millie and Jackson proud; this award belongs to all three of us' Well done Tegan –we are all very proud of you! Mrs Dunford An Exceptional Charity Event Congratulations goes out to Ethan Godfrey who won gold in the 150-160 weight category at the British Taekwon-do Championships which took place in Swindon on Sunday 19th November. Congratulations Ethan! ‘Au Revoir’ Jo Ronxin It is with great sadness this week that we say goodbye to Jo Ronxin, Deputy Head (Pastoral). Jo is moving to Dilton Marsh School, within the Acorn Academy Trust, to take the position of Acting Headteacher for the remainder of this academic year. Jo has worked at Kingdown for the past 17 years and was instrumental in the development of the vertical house tutoring system, being formerly head of Wimbledon House. More recently as a Deputy Headteacher Jo, has led the pastoral team with great vision, dedication and with an absolute focus on the cornerstone of what makes Kingdown such a special place – ensuring that every student experiences exceptional pastoral care within the school. I would like to take this opportunity to formally thank Jo for her dedication to each and every student within our school community, past and present, for whom she has made a significant and positive difference through her many years of service. We will miss Jo tremendously, and wish her all the very best in her new role. Dave Locke Headteacher

It’s almost that time of year again, and that can only mean one thing. The annual Lord’s House Christmas Tree. We’ve had Carlos and we’vehad Carol, but this year, we’d like to introduce you to Craig, who has been kindly sourced by House Captains Leanna Upson and Elliot Clark.A Christmas tree can mean many different things to different people. For some it can be the creator of a festive atmosphere, or symbol ofgiving and togetherness, and to others it may signify the end of the year and a time for reflection. Whatever the Christmas tree means toyou, we’d like to bring the Lord’s house together in teamwork to help decorate our tree in however creative a way we like… even if that isMr Bindon as the star on top.Over the weeks leading up to Christmas, we give each tutor group the opportunity to take care of Craig, using their time to add their ownhand made decorations. Not only is this a great way in which to brings tutors together in light of Christmas, but also an amazing opportunityto support the Lord’s house charity, Make a Wish Foundation. By making a small donation, each student is put into a prize draw to be thelucky winner of the tree. This is our way as a house to reach our target of £1000 raised for a charity that is important to us. Please supportthe cause by donating 50p and receiving a prize draw ticket to win Craig. Deadline for donations is 14th December!Leanna Upson – House Captain

School Front Car ParkParents are politely reminded that the front car park is not astudent dropping-off point. This is a busy pedestrian area in themornings and afternoons; minimising traffic through this area willreduce the risk of an accident significantly. For those arriving bycar, please use the Sports Centre road to drop off your son ordaughter. Many thanks. Dave Locke - Headteacher

Year 7 Kingdown vs Clarendon AwayThe Match, The Game, The Dream

Travelling to Clarendon by school bus, the team representingKingdown are determined to sign off another win. Undefeatedand undefeatable, Kingdown's confidence was high and they wereready for what's facing them. The team sheet looks like this:

HarveyJoshRomanRuben

ZacColeBenjiTobyW

Toby ETomCaiBaton

PiltonLiamJamesFinley

The game started off fiercely with strong tackles made byKingdown which forced their defence back making a gateway fora try to be scored. After that the four subs came on - Zac, Tom,Josh and Liam. Not long after the substitution another try wasscored. The Kingdown scrums were tough and won the ball onmany occasions, and then straight from a scrum, Kingdown scoredagain. We were elated ... but not long after that Kingdownconceded a try and then the half time whistle blew - we were insuspense! A few team modifications were made and the beginningof the second half took off with a blast! Kingdown lads held theirdefence strong forcing back any attack from the opposition. Aftera muddy tiring half we scored again officially sealing yet anotherYear 7 victory. The boys left the field with their muddy heads heldhigh! End score 20-5Amazing tries from: Toby Worts, Zac Mcleod Jones,Benji Naisaramaki and Roman Bodymore.
